Newfoundland Discussions / We are getting our newfy puppy this month!
« on: November 03, 2006, 08:34:16 am »
I am so excited Leviatan (Levi for short) is going to arrive hopefully on the 25 of November! We are getting some new pictures of him this weekend along with our puppy package. But here are some pictures that I have received so far. She is sending me some of him this weekend. The ones I am posting are some pictures that she sent me of the litter so I am not sure if Levi is one of them.

Tim told me about this, and I have been upset and crying ever since. I pray that she is OK at the rainbow bridge and that she doesn't remember what happened to her.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Found my perfect job!
« on: September 27, 2006, 07:41:37 am »
Well Tim has been wanting to start a business for a long time now, and wants me to be involved with it. Then we came up with the perfect business. I am going to become an dog trainer and we'll open up our own business (daycare/training)! Why we didn't think of this before I don't know. I found a school to get the training from and I am going to take the first aid course that is offered through our local Humane Society. It is a 2 day course. I think that is very important to have. And we are also going start our own Large breed rescue as well. We hope to have this up and running by sometime next year. The course that I am going to take is about a year long. It is a risk but now is the time for us to do this as we don't have skin kids yet, and Tim is going to keep his job, and so am I for now. And he is going to help me run it. AHHH I am scared but excited at the same time.
What do you all think of the idea?

Edit: Oh the name is Dibby Dog Day Care( and we'll add training to it too) In Honor of Dilbert. We also got the website(not up yet) dibbydog.ca

ONTARIO MOVES TO BAN LABRADOR RETRIEVERS
by Publisher on Wed 23 Aug 2006 09:55 AM EDT | Permanent Link | Cosmos

Toronto, August 23, 2006: The Attorney General for Ontario announced
last night that in view of the success of the province's ban on pit
bulls the government is turning its attention to another very popular
breed of dog.

He made the following announcement at a press conference late
yesterday:
"These dogs are involved in more biting and mauling incidents than any
other breed in Ontario. Every time I read a news report about a
dangerous dog, it involves a Lab or a Lab cross. We had another
incident
today in Waterloo involving Labs attacking people on the street. Enough
is enough. It's time to take a long, hard look at these dogs."

When questioned about the advisability of bringing the issue before the
public in an election year, the Attorney General said: "The public
wants
to be protected from dangerous dogs. The public supported the pit bull
ban because they knew it was time to get dangerous dogs off our streets
and out of our parks and backyards. The precedent has been set, our ban
is working and it's time to look at other types of dogs involved in
large numbers of bites and attacks."

As to whether it would be put to a vote in the Legislature or if public
hearings would be held as they were for the pit bull ban, the response
was: "We went through a vote, we had public hearings and we remained
convinced that banning pit bulls was the right thing to do. The law
allows the government to add any breeds or mixed breeds to its list of
prohibited dogs without consultation. Municipalities have that
authority
as well."

The Opposition Critic could not be reached for comment. The NDP
Attorney
General Critic had this to say:

"I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this announcement. The
Attorney General has already proven he is capable of banning dogs
because of their breed. Labs are one of the most popular dogs in the
province, why wouldn't they be next? More dogs, more bites - it isn't
rocket science".

Asked if he thought adding another breed to the ban would protect the
public, he replied "I don't know about the public. I think this is more
about protecting the Attorney General's seat."

Newfoundland Discussions / Getting puppy in December
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:26:26 am »
So it's official, our names are down and we are getting a newf puppy in December. I am sending the deposit down at the end of the month and probably the rest of the payment in October. I am so excited! And my family will get to meet him as well as he will be with us when we visit them for Christmas. And my Mom has the baby gates already LOL. I am also thinking of getting a baby pen for him as well, I saw a really neat portable one that has it's own case and everything. I figure that could be really handy as well.

Labrador Retriever Discussions / Harley is a big girl now!
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:20:10 am »
Harley is all grown up. We came home last week and Harley was waiting at the front door for us? Odd since when we left for work she was in her crate. But the house was spotless, not mess anywhere WOOHOOO! So the escape artist is at it again!  ;D How she managed to get out I have no idea since we have the huge wire crate for her. I think she pulled on the door with her teeth until it came down and out she went. The poor girl scratched her nose all up in the process! My poor baby!  :'( So I think this was her letting us know I am ready to not be crated anymore. Funny how they let you know when the time is right. So now we leave her out of her crate all the time. She has the TV left on for her, but we make sure that there is nothing out that she can get into, or hurt herself with. My baby is all grown up ;)

Well we left our cross country drive with 2 dogs and came back with only one! Our foster, Cody got adopted in Nova Scotia. (lucky guy gets to stay there!) But when we go visit in the summers we get to see him ;D. We we so sad and happy at the same time, he gets his forever home but we got so attached to him.  Now we have a new foster puppy, she is 6-8 wks old and she is a spit fire! Gotta love it when they are that young, full of energy then boom out like a light. She is great in the crate, but she doesn't have bladder control yet. But you can't blame her she is so young. So I guess this is a good reminder of what it is like to have a puppy again, for when we have our newf in December.  :)

Edit: First picture is of Cody. The others are of Jetta our new foster.

Newfoundland Discussions / We found our breeder
« on: June 28, 2006, 08:07:41 pm »
Well after about 2 months of research and looking for a breeder, we found one. I have been emailing him and he has been so helpful. He is going to send me copies of the Heath clearences and he tests for everything, heart hips elbows eyes and cystinuria. He also send a 100 information package on grooming, training and household poisons to watch out for. The litter is going to ready for their homes in mid November, and he is not sure if there is going to be a landseer in the litter, but that is OK if there is one then great if not then that is OK too. I am excited  ;D

Hello all

Tim and I have decided that next year we are going to buy a Landseer newf (right now it is still to soon for us, as we are still greiving for Dilbert). We are doing our research and I would like some advice on some good questions to ask the breeders that we narrow down on. I am also going to try and find some rescue groups too.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / UPDATE on Foster situation
« on: June 12, 2006, 12:32:06 pm »
Hello

I have been so bad with not being able to post on here.  :-\
But here is an update on the foster situation. We were suppose to get a black Lab in but she got adopted before we even got her! Then we were going to get a yellow lab in and he got adopted before we got him too! What are the odds of that happening. So now we just wait for the next foster to come in. Oh well I am just happy that they both found good homes.  ;D
