Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Cesco attacked me :-(
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:18:14 pm »
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the quick response, my mom said she will pay for training if it will help. It is just so weird, out of all of us, he is attached to me the most, and it is almost like he doesn't even know he did anything wrong! When I pried my hand loose from his teeth I ran screaming and crying down the hallway and my mom put him outside on the run. About a half hour later we went to take him his and he was tail wagging and jumping up and down as usual. I just don't get it, he really is such a sweet dog, why does he DO THIS??!! I don't even know where we would find a good trainer or behaviorist in this area. I am in the Gadsden, Alabama area. If I can convince my parents training will help, they will go for it, but this is just so depressing!!!!! My poor baby!!! I am leaving on Friday for the summer and I feel awful about the whole situation..... here is a pic from a few nights ago of mom and Cesco :-(

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Cesco attacked me :-(
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:03:54 pm »
Well, Cesco grabbed some candy from the table tonight and I went to take it out of his mouth and he didn't like that very much. I put my hand in his mouth to get it and he grabbed my hand, sunk his teeth in and wouldn't let go. I am left with 3 puncture wounds and a broken heart. My parents say he has to go. I say it is MY FAULT. When Cesco was a year old he attacked my dad when my dad went to grab his food bowl to fill it up. Then when he got his paw stuck in the front gate, my dad tried to get it out, and ended up with 16 more stiches. Someone please tell me we are stupid humans and this problem can be solved. Please tell me this is all my fault. My dad is ready to put him to sleep and my mom and I are sobbing because we love him so much, but don't know what to do. He gets very aggressive around his food, toys, pen, and treats. Otherwise he is a great dog!! SO happy and friendly. Please guys, I need your help here, PLEASE tell me there is a solution...... .I will do anything he needs. Feel free to tell me I am an idiot for sticking my hand in his mouth to get the candy, I realize this and wish it had never happened.  :'(

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Re: Aussie puppy question
« on: April 13, 2006, 06:14:46 am »
hehehehe, our Aussie was maxed out at 90 pounds. Then he lost some weight and got down to 80 pounds. This is because he always managed to eat anything and everything in the house. He wasn't always that big though. Our vet called him morbidly obese. We tried everything, and had him on weight management food. We got him mat 1 year old and I believe he was around 60 pounds then. But, I have yet to see another Aussie that was as big as he was. I think he was a "rare" catch! Lol, I'll try to attach a pic here so you can see him.

The rejected pics are soooo cute!! I love the last ones, he looks like he is shoving the bunny away! He is just too much!

Hey everyone, most of you have probable seen this, but I thought I would post it for those that haven't!!

Subject: How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture. (how true)! this would be my boogie

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

12. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

14. Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

How many cats does it take to change a light bulb?

Cats do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the real question is:

"How long will it be before I can expect some light, some dinner, and a massage?"

ALL OF WHICH PROVES, ONCE AGAIN, THAT WHILE DOGS HAVE MASTERS, CATS HAVE STAFF!

Ok, first I would like to say they are all BEAUTIFUL animals. But Ice really caught my eye, what a beautiful Aussie!!!! And the first dog I thought of when I saw this post was Turkey!!!!! Rebekah, she looks like she will fit right in!!! Look how beautiful Mishka is! Her eyes and her color look like Turkey's! Especially baby Miska's picture, it looks like a baby picture of Turkey!  Really, what beautiful babies, all of them.
Ice is too beautiful, here is a picture of my Aussie who passed away in January....

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Fleas and Ticks Meds
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:48:03 pm »
EastJenn- thanks for the info! I guess Advantix is pretty good stuff then, but I still just don't feel comfortable that it is lethal to cats!!! And I am still angry at the vet's office. How incredibly irresponsible!!!!! I don't care if it is "their opinion" that cats can only come in contact with the Advantix if they are "grooming" the dog that is using it. I STILL feel they should have informed my mom of the risks!!!! I told the vet I spoke with today that my cats will not be coming back to their clinic. Including their grooming clinic. I don't think my mom will be bringing Cesco or her 2 yorkies back their either. The whole situation just seems so unprofessional >:(
Brandon- Does your pet meds really not come in the original packaging from pet shed? Mine always do, that is really odd. Either way, I still think it's great that we can get it at MUCH better prices than the vet sells it for! Yippee!!

Winslow's dad- I agree, I hope you have a good experience with petshed like I have!
I am beyond frustrated now though with the flea and tick medication companies, and just some vets in general. My mother called me last night and told me the vet had put Cesco on Advantix. He had previously been on Frontline Plus just like my cats. I asked her if the vet told her the Advantix was lethal to cats. She was shocked and said they never mentioned it. So, I just got off the phone with the vet, after informing them mthat if my cats die, I am FULLY blaming them and their staff of idiots that didn't even INFORM my mother about the danger of Advantix to cats. They have seen all 5 of our animals and know they live in the same house. I was INFURIATED that they pushed the switch of medications on my mom and Cesco, and did not even tell them of the dangers. So they vet gave me this long speech on how Frontline Plus is being replaced with Advantix because the fleas are "smart" and are "figuring out" out to be immune to Frontline. I don't know whether or not this is true, but I am still fuming about the lack of precautions that my mom was mamde aware of from the vet's office. Grrrrrrrr!! Has anyone had this experience????

Someone on here reccommended Petshed.com, and that is where I have been getting my Frontline Plus. It seems to work just as well as the ones from the vet, we haven't had any problems. And it was about half price. Although now, our vet is saying Advantix is better, so I am frustrated, I don't know what to believe. I do have 2 cats, but they are scared of Cesco, who lives with them and is now on Advantix. So i don't think there is any way they would get in contact with it, or him. But anyway, yea petshed.com is pretty good so far, fast shipping and great prices, and it does look exactly the same as the vet stuff.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Staph infections
« on: April 02, 2006, 06:38:16 pm »
Your poor baby!!! I wish I had some advice. but I don't. I remember growing up, one of our dogs got a staph infection, and the vet told us to just make sure we rubbed her coat dry when she came out of the lake. She liked to go in the lake a lot, and our vet thought that might have caused it. I hope this can help somehow!

She looks a lot like a mixed breed my Aunt has. The don't know what she is but she is four years old and maybe 35-40 pounds
