General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / HELP ALLERGIES!!!!!!!!!
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:02:05 pm »
hey Everyone!

Quick update since it has been soo long since I have been on:
Payton(our skin baby) is 17 months old! WAY harder raising a well trained baby than puppy! lol
Bell is doing wonderful! last I was on we had found out Bell had had a large tumor. We did surgery removed the mass and went through chemo at Auburn. She is doing absolutely wondeful. Her prognosis was poor at first and at her last checkup they have given her years to her life!!!!!!

OK here is my question..... We just found out Payton is VERY allergic to dogs! We currently have 3 ( a 1 yr old pug Lilly, our 5 year old Springer Baxter, and 6 yr old Weim Bell) She isnt soo bad that she needs allergy shots but doesnt need them inside with her  :'(. Dr told me to look out for certian shampoos for dogs because this is something that she could possibly grow out of but also could not.

Does anyone have childern or are they allergic to dog dander and what do yall do to help with it? Payton is currently on Claritin and Zyrtec for pet and seasonal allergies

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / HEy everyone!!!
« on: February 22, 2009, 02:09:14 pm »
 Hi guys

I know everyone has been wondering about Bell.  She is doing wonderful.  She had her last radiation and they have very high hopes!!!!  We will find out next week.

I do have a question though.  My mother in law just got a pug puppy.  She is trying to crate train her and it isnt going very well.  The puppy is 11 weeks old and is almost reversed crate trained.

She only goes in her crate.  She will run around the house and go outside for hors and never go but as soon as she is in the crate she goes almost like she has been holding it.

How do we get a hold of it we are having to dog sit for the next couple of months becasue my mother in law had a heart attack and is going to have to have open heart surgery.

Any pointers?

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Bell is doing well
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:30:14 pm »
Bell's surgery went as well as anyone could have hoped.  The doctor believes that they removed all of the tumor and cancerous region of intestine.  She will be coming home on Thursday.

It has been a very hectic couple of days. I have been meanning to get on and post everyone on Bell. But Payton has developed a very bad cough which they thought was RSV but is now a very bad case of Croup. She was rushed to the doctor today due to her wheezing and gasping for air.

If it isnt one thing it is everything else.  But at least everything so far with Bell has gone very well.  They will have her start chemo on next Monday. Thank you everyone for thinking and praying for our family and Bell.  We still have a long ways to go but hopfully it is on the right track. ;)

« on: December 14, 2008, 01:59:28 pm »
Well Bell and Hubby left for Auburn this evening.  I have a really good friend that lives there so she is letting bell and hubs stay there for the next couple of days.

I am so nervous for her surgery. Unfortunatley I have to work since I just got off maternity leave 3 months ago.  Please keep Bell in your thoughts and I will let you know how tomorrow goes.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / A sign of hope!!!!!!!!
« on: December 13, 2008, 03:47:24 am »
Bell got to come home to us this weekend before she goes off to Auburn with Hubby on Monday.   This morning we got up and where she has been very sluggish and lathargic she is a ball of energy this morning,

Payton has a playschool playset with a slide on it and Bell has been going up and down the slide all morning.  Her favorite thing to do.  Maybe this is her telling us not to worry that she will be back to her old tricks in no time.  o I hope so :) :)

We are very concerned about our wiemeraner Bell.  She is 3 years old and has lost a significant amount of wieght in a week!!!  We are taking her to the vet on Monday but just wanted to know if anyone knows of reasons for dogs to lose that much weight so fast.

She wasnt this bad even yesterday.  this morning I can see her hip bones and if she loses anymore than I will probably be seeing her spine.  SHe is still eating like a horse though

After last nights events, my husband ws talking to his MOTHER about it.  Now dont get me wrong but my MIL and I get along fine but now he is trying to talk my husband into making me get rid of the dogs!!!!

I am livid!! >:( >:( >:(  I know it probably worries her about what happened last night but she doesnt understand.  She told him that they had a dog for a year when he was two and the dog "bit" him.  Which I found out was a nip because she had broken her leg and he grabbed it.  She immediatley had the dog put down.

How do I let him see that having the dogs around the baby is a great thing?  He said that maybe we should talk about it and see our options but there is no other option for me. I grew up with dogs and was fine why cant my daughter.  He said that we have 3 options.

1. Make all 3 outside dogs. (They have never been outside a full day in their lives)
2. Downsize (Get rid of two and only keep one)
3. Get rid of all of them together and wait until Payton is older to get a dog.

Which is funny because his mother just sent me an email telling me those three things.  This means that she is telling him he needs to do this. Not just 3 days ago he was telling me how great it was going to be that our daughter wasnt going to be scared of dogs because she is growing up with them.

HELP!!!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Baxter bit my husband!!!!!!!
« on: August 18, 2008, 08:10:59 pm »
I dont know what to do!!!   :'( :'(  We had let the dogs out for thier evening playtime and it started to rain.

Hubby went to let them in from the covered porch.  He always picks them up and carries them to our laundry room where we dry them off.  He went to go pick up Baxter and he turned around and bit him on his hand.  He drew blood!!!

Hubby said that we will give him one more chance but if he ever does that again we are putting him down.  He said that we cant have an unpredictable dog around a newborn and I do completely agree with that but I dont know what to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  We do not have any dog behaviorists around us for 3 hours.  We had to call about a friends dog and found that out.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Baby Payton is born!!!!!!!
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:39:21 pm »
She arrived on Friday July 11th at 11:34 pm.

I went into labor on Friday evening at about 8:00.  She is SOOOO good.  She sleeps very well for being so little.  She weighed 7lbs 7ozs.

Labor went VERY fast.  I went into labor and had only been in the car 20 mintues and felt like I needed to push.  It only took about an hour after that and I was completely dialated.  I pushed 3 times and she was out.

I have been trying to upload pics and am not sure how to downsize them but my new avatar is a picture of her.  Can anyone tell me how to downsize them?

Anything Non-Dog Related / I went to the Doctor Update!!!
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:57:36 am »
I am going to be induced on Saturday morning.  My blood pressure all of a sudden went up and I had to get blood work done.  I am calling back at 4 to see the results but he feels that I dont need to go much longer because of that.

He also stripped my membranes.  So I guess I will have a baby by saturday

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / I have a problem
« on: July 05, 2008, 06:44:25 am »
Yea I know I always do! ;)  Baxter and Buble sleep in their crates at night in our laundry room.  Well for the past5 nights/mornings one of them has started to bark none stop.  The only thing is I cant tell who it is.

Their barks are almost exactly the same especially coming through a wall.  One of them starts like at 4 and will do it off and on until they hear someone coming.  The moment you step foot out of the bed they stop.

I thought it was because we are switching thier food and Buble tends to get an upset tummy the first couple of days.  No that wasnt it.  He just wants to get out and play.

I have a bark collar that we had to put on Bell at one point in time but it is it to early to try it on Buble?  He is almost 7 months old now. I just dont want this to be a habit starting and thier "room" is directly across from the baby's room.

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Shop Vac?
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:31:47 pm »
Does anyone use a shop vac also for a dryer?  I was showing hubby different force dryers online for the dogs and he said why not use the shop vac as a dryer too?

Does anyone do this and does it work as well?
