Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Sick Puppy

could be just gastritis... summerizing other posts:

fast for 24 hrs.
feed slippery elm bark powder.
feed canned pumkins
then proceed to plain yogurt
then graduate to 3:1 rice:ground beef ratio

if does not improve over 2 days, hit the vet.

finally found out nikki's diarrhea is a secondary symptom of hook worms. this new place we're moved to (complex of 20 apts) has 25% dog ownership. and as gentrified/yuppified as the residents may be (buncha IT/Ivy league types running around in Range Rovers/BMWs/Audis, etc.) apparently they're all owner-idiots.

there's more poop on the common areas than Parisian streets. When i get home tonite, i'm putting up signs notifying everyone to remove their own dogs' waste. another $100 at the vet today...  >:( >:( >:(

poor girl running around with wormies in her tummy for almost a week now

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: PEEING!! OMG

i'd seriously take  RedyreRottweilers advice...

we began re-crating nikki last week. it's seriously helped the random peeing. you can really tell when puppies are properly crated. cody LOVES to go into the crate... nikki is like.. 'meh'...

hyperactive.. not today!!! (sick from hookworms + 5-in-1 vaccination shots)...

but yah... we're baby-gating her RIGHT at the door now. the entire house is hardwood, no carpet, and we clean w/ both mr. clean + bleach so it's not a 'smell' problem..

i've eliminated it down to submissive peeing and/or from excitement. as soon as she's feeling better, we'll get back to working on the peeing issue. thanks for the tip tho!!!

wow.. i just saw this today..

http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/sep05/353731.asp

apparently the race track's closing.. i was told by the local rescue group that there'll be '1000' or is it s'pose to 100? i dunno.. i think (or i HOPE i heard wrong)... 1 of the 10 yr old greyhound girls they had @ petco for adoption today was sooo soft and smart... she knew how to squeak toys - a big deal for me, as both of my dogs are squeak-retarded...

of course you know costco has their own kirkland brands. the dog kibbles happen to be made by diamond. you can read the detailed ingredients list here:
http://www.mordanna.com/boards/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=31854&an=0&page=0#Post31854
everything looks good. both formulas have glucosamine which ppl on this board are so worried about. the chicken formula has relatively high animal proten %. and man, the price is RIGHT. we're slowly switching out as of this weekend...

Saint Bernard General Discussions / no UTI (yay!) ripped off by Vet (boo!)
« on: September 14, 2005, 11:46:52 am »
* nikki is UTI-free. or whatever that means.
* after 2 days on the antidiarrhetic pills, her stool has firmed up.
* after a 1.5 days of fooling her w/ treats, she's stopped peeing right before my door (i'm an obedience training MASTER babeeee, or not...)

the vet sold us (i say 'us', cuz it wasn't ME) a 10# bag of friggin Hill's Precription for $20 advising the food will solidify the poop (yah RIGHT). the Person who took nikki to the vet forgot the cardinal rule of food buying: CHECK THE LOUSY LABEL for corn/soy/wheat. i was so ticked off when i read the label : #1 ingredient corn gluten meal... the Costco/Diamond food is only $25/bag for 40 friggin lbs. cest la vie...

now back to your regular: my-dog's-better-than-your-dog programming.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Canidae dog food
« on: September 12, 2005, 03:13:21 pm »
w00t. big fan of Canidae here...

tho at the rate we're going thru for 2 dogs, i'm about to try the Costco/Kirkland signature brand made by diamond.. decent ingredients, great price.

btw, did anyone sense MORE shedding on Canidae? or is it just my imagination?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: How much to feed?
« on: September 12, 2005, 02:57:39 pm »
also depends on what FOOD you're feeding? how many kcals / cup, how many % protein vs fat vs. etc. ? how much exercise your dog gets,

might wanna mention that too.. for canidae, i believe it's 3 cups a day... and of course, you adjust accordingly based on how chub your dog is..

i saw your gastritis post... normally i'd just fast her for a day, and then start on the hamburger/rice 1:3 ratio diet, but man, it's been over 36 hrs and she's still got anal leakage... even when crated...

^^ such a SEKSY imagery right there..
