Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Webster stays in trouble

Thanks everyone.... for some perverted reason, it does make me feel better to know that others go thru this also.   I don't remember it with my first newf... but I had him for 14 years and the last 12 of those were the "maybe a bit of mischief, but no real trouble" kind of years. And Hightower NEVER barked.  Webster LOVES to bark!!  But just like at Angus' house, we laugh a lot.  Webster is just full of spunk and personality and can look sooooooo innocent... and sometimes soooooo guilty.

Webster my 8 month old newf just seems to stay in trouble.  But he is so funny.  All the months we've had him, he never bothered our fish pond other than a quick drink.  My dh spent a few hours doing some spring cleaning in there, cleaning filters, reviving plants etc, now Web thinks it is just fine to stand in the pond and pull out the grasses and chase the fish etc.  EVERYTIME we let him out, he is in the pond..... what a mess.  He is also just now starting to chew up things.... ie: a pair of prescription sunglasses, a tube of animax, coasters, candles and that is just today.  We are careful not to leave things on the floor, cause then if he eats them, we figure it was our fault.  But he is picking things off of table tops!  We made it thru potty training with little problems... THIS chewing/getting into everything is a bit frustrating.  I keep telling dh he will grow out of it...but I am beginning to wonder.  Oh, and have I mentioned the barking.  He barks at every noise, real or imagined.  He "talks" back when told no.  He barks inside to go out and outside to come in.  I think he just likes to hear himself.  All this.. and we still love him dearly, how can you not love a newf??

How adorable.  My Webster is only 8 months old and already I miss the "little puppy".  I love Oliver's "sticky uppy" hair.

More times than not, it is ears or hotspot.  Especially after a romp in the water.

Webster is only 7 months old, but I honestly have not found ANYTHING he won't eat.  He acts like all of it is his favorite.

How did you get em to sleep at the same time?

You spoil the puppy for a few months,(with the wee bit of discipline/teaching  as needed of course) and he/she will spoil you for the rest of your life.  I cannot imagine not having a newfie in the house.

I knew I could never replace my first newf, Hightower and I didn't try.  But it is unbelievable how different Webster is.  I had HT for 14 years, never heard him utter a sound, much less bark until he was 10 or 11 years old.  Webster carries on conversations! hahahaha.... either with me, Riley, the neighborhood canine citizens or if no one else will listen, I think he just barks to himself.

Webster is such a talker.  He woofs to go outside and he woofs to come in.  He woofs when he wants to play or if he needs a "hand up" to get up on the bed. He woofs if something is said directly to him and he gives a sharp, short little "talk back" woof when he is told "no!" (then he will lie down and put his head between his paws and look ever so sad).  Sometimes he talks to the neighborhood.  He will stand at attention and go "woo woo woo"  in a wee little voice.  Until this morning.  Then, he was doing is woo woo woo thing when all of a sudden it became a full fledged howl (like a coon dog)  He looked back over his should at me with the whites of his eyes showing as if to say "where in the world did THAT come from?".  Then I swear, he tried for 5 minutes to do it again but it just wouldn't do it.  It was soooo funny.  I would have loved to have it on video.
