I went back through my old stuff for the information I received and couldn't find anything other than comments stating that extra 1-2% could pose a problem but nothing to support those statements.  I was such a freak when Nola was a little puppy, I didn't take the chance and kept the protein under 24% and the fat near 12%.  I cannot find the info on calium but Nola didn't receive any type of calium supplements.

From what I have read, large breed puppy foods are made for dogs that will top out around 100 lbs, not for enormous beasties which can surpass 200 lbs.

What does your breeder say about the puppy formula and the percentages?  I used to bombard my breeder constantly with questions.

Sorry I couldn't find a more definitive answer for you.

Another adorable puppy.  I just love how he looks like he's smiling in some of those pictures.

I have to go with hand towels on this since the terry is more absorbent.  Everyone who enters our house knows that blue hand towels = drool towels.  They stay far away from the blue ones...

I have a family party so I cannot make it to meet up with you.  But, Kristi, Seth will be down there with his mom and his sister.  So, if you see them, say Hi!

What about adding a meal of ground beef or something similar fatty to help him gain weight?

You won't be able to get green tripe from a butcher's shop since it is not fit for human consumption.  I know some of the pet stores (not PetSmart) carried green tripe in a can that was nearly as smelly as the fresh stuff.  Raw food suppliers usually are able to provide the fresh stuff.  Where are you located?

Nola used to have a chronic runny bum but it got much better when we switched to raw feeding.  We still notice, however, that if he doesn't get enough bone in his meals, the next poops are going to be cowpies.

So sorry Bubba is going through all this.

You probably notice that Lucah goes through lean and not-so-lean stages since he is growing so quickly.  If he is looking too lean and you easily see his ribs, then give him more food!  He's a big pup, he'll find places to put that extra food.  I don't remember what amounts we fed Nola as a little pup, but when we stopped feeding Nola kibble (about 8-10 months of age) he was up to about 8-10 cups a day.

Is Cub a puppy formula?  You need to be careful with puppy formulas and giant breeds.  If they are getting more than about 24% protein, that is too much.  The advise we were given when Nola was a puppy was to get off puppy food immediately and go directly to adult food.  The protein level in adult formula is lower than puppy formula.  A puppy can grow too quickly and wind up with joint problems.

Good luck

We call Nola the "big geek" of the block.  If one of the labs is outside, he/she will play with Nola but once another lab comes into the mix, they ignore our poor dorky oaf.  At the beach, he was always tagging after the packs of dogs.  Nola definitely isn't part of the cool clique but we love our big dork.

Most of the bars that have a beer garden allow dogs in the outside area.

There is a bar at the corner of Halsted and Armitage which allows dogs inside.  I am not sure if they serve food.  The name is just escaping me, though.

Navy Pier allows dogs on the boardwalk area just not inside.  Charlie's Ale House has excellent food (mmmm, mac and cheese) but I am not sure if dogs are allowed in the beer garden.  You may want to give them a call.

I can agree with everyone that Twisted Spoke does have excellent bloody marys.  Rather like a meal in a glass.

Enjoy your weekend in Chicago.

Nola had one of those sensitive tummies.  When he was on kibble and we switched his food too quickly, he really had an explosive rear-end.  Mastiff with runny bum...BAD.  Maybe it's a kibble thing because he's now on raw food and we switch off between pork, lamb and beef at each meal without any problems.
