General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Who is Alpha
« on: February 28, 2006, 08:14:04 pm »
After Mack and I it is Bobo our soon to be 19 year old cat.  It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with being the meanest.  Let me tell you this cat has been evil since the day I got him over 18 years ago.  I have often said that if he were a dog I would have had to put him down long ago.  I don’t know why I accept unacceptable behavior from him but I do.

As for the dogs we have been experiencing a shift in power.  It started when my girl friends lab pup started coming over about eight weeks ago.  The boy’s (Tucker and Scooter) started doing manly stuff like hiking their leg to pee and doing some serious chest thumping.  Miss Tyra started prancing more or being a mother hen to the boys.  She also seems to think that it is her responsibility to discipline the boys when they get to rough.

At this point Tyra seems to have taken the alpha role from Tucker.  This was difficult for us as Tucker is our favorite; however, the fact that he is a weak dog due to all his health issue we knew this was a possibility and that we should not interfere.

So who is alpha in your house and how did they achieve their status?

Allow your pets on the furniture?

This is another reason we would like an addition.

Mack and I really want our living room back.  Anyone else considering an addition for your dogs?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Cute Story
« on: February 13, 2006, 12:01:31 am »
First I have to apologize that there are no pictures of the following.

I’ve been gone for a couple weeks and Mack was home with the pups.  Although I found the story absolutely hilarious Mack still finds difficulty seeing the humor.

After a long hard day at work Mack came home to find Tucker in his crate with 10” of down feathers.  Tucker was also COVERED from head to toe as if he had been tarred prior to ripping open not one but two down woobees.  Poor Mack it took him hours to clean up the mess.

The mental image brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Look What Showed Up On My Door-Step
« on: January 10, 2006, 10:57:44 am »
Yesterday when my friend was dropping off Kona she was greeted by a beautiful pit bull.  She was VERY friendly with us but had serious dog aggression so unfortunately I was unable to foster.  The picture doesn't do her justice....thi s dog although thin was incredibly buff.  I've seen many pits but none with such a muscular body; she looked like a body builder.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Scooter Keeps Vomiting - Advice Please
« on: January 07, 2006, 05:34:27 pm »
Since this morning Scooter has been unable to keep anything down.  He had lunch (rice only) about 12:30 and just barfed that up.  Do you think this is a blockage?  Should I take him to the ER now or should I wait and see how he does the rest of the day.  So far he has had two meals and has barfed four times.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Family Resemblance
« on: January 06, 2006, 11:43:25 am »
I was going through my pictures and one of Tyra seemed so familiar.....d oes anyone else see the resemblance?  It's bad enough that I have a tendency to call Tucker Karl but now I am comparing facial features with the princess.  If my son knew I don't think he would be happy.  Oh well, it can be our little secret.

Does anyone else have a fur kid that looks like their skin kid?

I had the pleasure of watching Kona yesterday for the first time and boy does that pup have energy; he even wore Scooter out!  Funny thing is that his mom keeps telling me what a mellow pup he is.  Well that might be at her house...... but here he was a wild child.

I have to admit we all love it.  My guys have never met a buddy they didn't like and the younger the better.  The BEST thing about pup sitting is that I get to send them home at the end of the day.  Not surprisingly I have been cured of wanting a puppy....they are soooo much work.

Here are some pics of my friends mellow pup.... you be the the judge.

Anything Non-Dog Related / My Other Obsession
« on: December 12, 2005, 02:07:55 pm »
This is SOOOOO off topic but I had to share.

On most boards I go by CruiseCAT because I have an obsession with cruising.  Anyway, my sister and I were looking for deals for our next sister cruise and boy did we find a deal.....10 nights for only $612 per person including ALL taxes and port fees.  We had not planned to cruise again until late next year but this was just too good to pass up.

Here is the link if anyone wants to check it out....come join us on the Dawn Princess on January 29, 2006.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Allergy Shots
« on: December 04, 2005, 11:01:07 pm »
Tucker has allergies and when he was tested they recommended shots.  We decided to hold off due to all his other issues and he had only a couple outbreaks.  Well currently Tucker is suffering from severe hot spots where his leg rubs his belly.  It went from being red yesterday to purple tonight.  We'll be taking him in first thing in the AM.  I'm sure our vet will send us back to the dermatologist to start shots.

Tucker's major allergies are to our desert plants and grasses.  Although we try to keep the yard clear it is impossible to rid the air of those things he is allergic to.

Anyone here treating their canine with allergy shots?  What did you try before shots?  For all those that have dogs that suffer with allergies please share your experience; what worked, what didn't.....I'm open to ALL suggestions.  Shots are a LAST resort.

Cindy

P.S.  Tucker does not have food allergies

We are all in the office and Mack and I heard a grunting noise.  We turned to see Tyra lying ON Tucker's head.
