Bills & Other Legislative Acts / Re: What is going on with PETA?

I agree with you Connolly. I do animal rescue where I live and I have met more disobedient children and teenagers that I would be afraid of than disobedient and "viscious" dogs!

Just remember everyone, if they can MAKE a law, you can CHANGE a law. All it takes is public support on your side. These elected officials don't care about anything else except being re-elected and their public image. If the overwhelming majority of the public comes forward and creates a stir for a cause, that's where they are going to swing.

Rosie is absolutely beautiful!! Her head is square like a black mouth cur, but her color doesn't match that. She's got to be some kind of hound/hunting breed. I'm intrigued now. I'm going to search through my breed book tonight at home.  I want to give her a big kiss on her nose, though!!  :-*

This is our foster dog Mia. She has been with us for a year.  She really needs a loving home. Mia LOVES men and is a spoiled princess. She is housebroken and a great companion. Anyone know someone who wants a purebred Australian Cattle Dog? Contact me at: lotzapets@earthlink.net

Bills & Other Legislative Acts / Re: Breed restrictions!!!!!
« on: March 23, 2005, 01:00:51 pm »
Here's my 2 cents: I am vehemently opposed to breed restrictions, but I can see where they are coming from. Down here in Louisiana we have a HUGE problem with dog fighting so breeds like the pit bull, rottweiler, etc. get a bad rap. What I suggest is that, instead of banning a whole breed (imagine if we did this with people! no one would stand for it), let the owner prove the dog is not a threat. Require renters, etc. with "questionable" breeds to produce obedience class certification or have passed the "Canine Good Citizen Test". Progressive insurance companies should recognize that these measures could help them gain and retain clients and cover their butts at the same time.  It would also help pet owners become more responsible and ensure fewer pets end up in high kill animal shelters.

There! see how easy that is to solve a problem like this if everyone would just listen to me???  Now, someone with more influence than I have needs to take this and run with it.

Hi Jeane, I'm "JEANNE"!!

I am currently VP of our local Humane Society in south Louisiana (after being President for 5 years). I have one red merle aussie, one collie/golden mix, one Australian Cattle dog and her neurologically impaired puppy, and one old beagle. We are also fostering one aussie mix for a woman who just had surgery for stomach cancer. No more room for rescue right now. The inn is officially full!!

BTW, how can I post a picture here? I'd love to share photos of my babies

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Re: earliest memory?

I surprised my husband with "Rocko" our red merle aussie on Valentines day 5 years ago.  He was just five weeks old and so calm - that was the LAST time I could say that about him. The two are best of friends now. Rocko loves to ride in the truck and will play frisbee until he drops.  I call Rocko "My Prozac" because no matter how I'm feeling I can look at him and crack a smile!
