I've never heard of that technique, but I love it and will start using it on Kentucky immediately. That's really the only big thing we have left to train her out of . . . well, that and taking off like her a$$ is on fire if she gets off leash or out the door.

Interesting idea. My little sister lives in Colorado and Aaron used to live there, too.

Thanks for all the great ideas so far! I can't wait to share them all with Aaron!

mine is a kind of bread-like crust with custard and fruit in the middle. I've made cherry, peach, apple, strawberry, blackberry and cranberry-orange and I tried a chocolate last week. I also tried making individual ones last week in a muffin pan and they turned out really good.

I didn't like the blackberry, but everything else has been really good. My dad only makes cherry and peach so that's what I grew up on, but I've enjoyed varying it up and trying new things.

It's so cool that you know what it is - you're the first person I know who has ever heard of it.

Gotcha. I just checked the website and figured that out. Prices aren't bad, but I still have to figure in the cost of getting there if we decide to use this. I like the idea of having a wedding coordinator to help with the stuff.

Did weddings the island way charge a fee?

I am German. The recipe has been in my family for over 100 years. Aaron loves it. He wants me to open up a Kuchen bakery.

Wow! I'm so glad I asked you guys. These are excellent ideas. I had no idea.

Lin, what cruise line did you use?

I really like the idea of a beach wedding. Maybe we could go to Cozumel - I bet things are cheap there right now as they rebuild from the hurricanes.

We were tentatively planning for January 2010 because Aaron's mom is in Australia until next Christmas and she really wants to be there for it.

Aaron and I are not planning an actual wedding ceremony, but want to do something special and relatively affordable.

Any ideas?

We've talked about Vegas and getting married on a cruise, but nothing seems "just right" yet.

Add mine to the naughty list. Derby stole a pan of my homemade german kuchen (a pie/fruit custard dish that's a family tradition) this morning and Kentucky got my frosting spatula and chewed the end of it.

Holiday Things / BPO Christmas Poem
« on: December 26, 2008, 02:08:31 am »
I put this on my Christmas cards, but thought I would post it for those of you that didn't get a chance to sign up for the card exchange.

Merry Christmas from Kentucky & Derby

Santa has elves to make gifts for all girls and boys
But who helps the good dogs get all their toys?

Two Christmas Hounds, one yellow, one black
Help check off his list and load Santa’s sack

Bear’s a good role model, Grace loves to cuddle
Jackie, Charge and Chammie can’t resist a good puddle

Ruckus helps keep his brother Brannigan in line
Mattie, Lucy and Buddy have “loads” of good times

Farley can’t help himself, he’s always in trouble
But Rosie’s so sweet, her good points are double

Good or Bad, BPO dogs all bring great joy to their homes
So the Christmas Hounds fill their stockings with stuffies and bones

But the families are the ones who get the most every year
‘Cause BPO dogs spread the best kind of cheer.

I love the 2nd picture with all the pooches on the couch. And, that's a very pretty tree. Thanks for sharing.

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Re: I got mangled by a cat!!!

hmmm...sounds to me like someone wasn't keeping a close enough eye on the eggnog!

Cats are, by nature, psycho I think. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em and have two of the best kitties in the world, but I think sometimes all that pent-up natural prey drive that doesn't typically get nurtured in house cats just has to unleash itself every so often and your poor hand was unfortunate victim.

Clean it often and well. I knew an animal control officer that almost lost her finger and was out of work for over a month because of cat scratch fever. (That was from a feral cat, though - don't want to alarm you. I'm sure you'll be fine).
