General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Flooring And big dogs

Hi,

I have older carpeting in the 2 upstairs bedrooms, well under all of wislow's hair there is old carpeting I should say  ::)

I am thinking of pulling the rugs and putting down vinyl tiles (the self stick stuff) Thoughts on this? If I had the money I'd do wood or laminate floors but I can do tiles(wood simulated tiles) for around $400.00 instead of the $1200 laminate flooring would cost.

Any body have the tiles and how do they hold up! Anything is better than raking the rugs I have now!! This is really only a consideration for ease of up keep!! I have killed 2 vacuums trying to gget the hair out of the rug, so now I actually use the yard rake on the rug then a shop vac to suck up the piles.  :o.

The tilese would be sweepable is my thinking!

Food Discussion & Information / Since Formula Changes

Hi,

Well when Canidae switched Formula, I switched Winslow to Innova large bite adult (Green Bag) well they switched formula and shrunk the bag also!! I kept Winslow on the new Innova formula and all is fine! Did anyone stay Canidae and how is it going!

My problem is the 30 lbs bag of Innova is now $47.00 and at 2 lbs a day a bag lasts me 2 weeks  :o . I see the Canidae is less expensive like ($37.00)and the new formulas for both are kind of close.

I can sure use the $20.00 a month extra!! should I consider the switch back or are there other suggestions out there for a premium kibble at a bargain price.

Winslow has been extremely healthy, on both Kibbles, his coat is great and I don't amd won't change him to a bad food but saving a few dollars on equal quality kibble would really help out!!

What are you all doing in these tighter economic times  :'(

Hi,

Winslow is doing well on Innova large Bites but the pricing I am paying is in the $51.00 range at the grain stores (30lbs bag) what else for a big paw right ::)

Anyone buying on line and what have you found for pricing. Just looking to save some money on the food!!

Hi,

Did anyone watch the Special on his dogs,

Kind of sensationalise d and too much on the negative in my eyes but BOY was i happy with the result of the dogs that went to the public!!

One put down for agression issues ;-( one put down for Medical issues but 17 re-homed ;-) and 1 even licensed as a therapy dog WAHOOOO  ;D ;D

What did those of you who watched think?

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Nutering a big boy

Hi,

Well Winslow turned three on Saturday. He still is "intact" When he got his summer shots i got a quote for him to be "fixed"

The quote was $945.00 :o Needless to say that is quite a bit more than I'd like to pay. The reason for the high cost ( besides him being 140 lbs) was some additional work on the "scrotal sack" is necessary since his "boys have dropped" and fixing that area is necessary to minimize  infection and swelling of the area.

I like my vet but I just can't afford to pay that much. Anyone have a suggestion on other options. He isn't going to be bred.

We are in the Boston Area.

Hi,

Well it is that time again especially here in New England. I had Winslow out on a wooded trail he loved it but the ticks loved him!! I have him front Lined and collared but he still picked up 3 or 4 ticks.  ::)

Anyone have a good removal technique ??? Big dark furred Boy so it is tough to see them!! then grab them (the ticks) with tweezers!!

Also people say to save the ticks in a jar with alcohol (flushing them doesn't kill them)the alcohol does in case you need to get the ticks checked for disease later!

I recall there was a thread that graded the different kibbles on the market, you know A+ through F, I can't seem to find it!!

I wanted to pass the info on to a friend!! So if someone can point me to the info I'd appreciate it!! and so would my friends Pup who is a science diet diner now!!  ;)

Hi,

Winslow started with some minor (eye boggers) this weekend, nothing serious but definatly more volume in his right eye.

Do I need to get something for him for this, or will it just kind of run its course? It definately seems to be getting better but still there.

Hi,

So how much Garlic is enough to repel mosquito's and ticks but not too much to harm the puppers health.

Pretty much every search on the topic says garlis is a great pest deterant, and you can give it too your pup. Tons of others say Garlic is bad and cah hurt the dogs health anyone here have experience with their Dog and Garlic and it effect on the bugs?
