Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Neutering When?
« on: December 06, 2005, 06:11:02 pm »
Hi,

Winslow has a stuffed sheep his first Toy from when we brought him home. Well he plays the dominance game with "Lambie" we let that go. Occasionally during fetch he'll start and he is stopped by us very quickly. I guess that is why I am asking the question. I am leaning toward the 1 year mark for most of the reasons stated, even though He won't mature until 2 or 3 years.

The leg lift is no issue for me, and I am pretty sure it is not a real issue for my better half, so we'll let you know what we do.

Thanks for all the insight
Rich

Hi,

Our Vet (a large breed specialist, shows his own Mastifs) says 6 months to 1.5 years.

My wife, now this is funny!!   wants to wait until he lifts his leg, instead of squating.... to releive himself (why neutering would have anything to do with that I don't know).

The growth plates makes sense. Our Vet says earlier is better for other health reasons. So we'll wait a while but probably before 1.5 years old.

Then I saw the humping and hips thread  ;D ;D Now I'm totally confused  ???

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Neutering When?
« on: December 06, 2005, 12:16:01 pm »
Hi,

Well Winslow is geting to that age when we have to think about Neutering  :-\ He weighed in at 72 pounds Monday night and will be 6 months on 12/28. Price goes up when he hits 90 pounds by $25.00, oh well cost of big bones  :'(

We are pretty sure we won't be showing or breeding the boy so we think it is best to Neuter him.  What is the conventional Wisdom on age to take care of this.

Hi,

What a bout a metal choker colar. If you don't attach a leash it is not going to choke the wearer, and the loops are perfect for attaching tags. I don't think he'll chew through the metal

Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Doggie "clean Up" Bags
« on: December 04, 2005, 02:20:40 pm »
Hi,

Grocery Bags don't Bio-Degrade in our liftime. and to carry 2 in your pocket requires large pockets. I just find these handy to have in the car or camper, or in the pocket on those longer walks where 1 grocery bag just might not be enough.

Oh and Wal Mart bags have never been cheap for me? Usually I find they cost in excess of a mortgage per trip to the store, but then again they are full when I get them ;-)

Hi,

Winslow has a pleated bed from this company, all the beds are really well constructed and will fit the largest of breeds. http://www.mammothoutlet.com/

It is on line purchasing and no live contact  but they did respond to e-mail on support and delivery questions pretty good. I'd buy from them again. If I needed to

iHi Anky,

Thanks for the links, and the pass on the stone throwing  ;D, I agree that we all need to pay attention to what is in the foods we feed the pets and the people,

Fortunately or Unfortunately,  ??? the people who could benefit most from these informative boards probably do not even know they exist. I tend to think that if you have made it to BPO you already know what is best for you and your pets.

I love the boards and the great information on them.

Hi,

I know the stones will be thrown at me, but Winslow has been doing very well on Science Diet Large Breed Puppy formula. He sees his vet every 2 months, his stool is solid and not soft. He is very regular and has been putting weight on as he is supposed too. He is happy, healthy and you can still feel his ribs ;-) like we are supposed to at his age.

So as long as you pay attention to your Pup, maintain a regular schedule with your vet and monitor the results of your feeding you really shouldn't be harming your dog with any food on the market.

If only we humans paid as much attention to what we eat, maybe we would be as healthy as our dogs.

Just like with yourself if you eat something that disagrees with you, you'll move on, so watch the pup if he doesn't like something he'll let you know.
