Oh my god, how scary?  were they alone?  Were they with the husband, your brother?  Did they leave that night to drive home or what?  I live in St. Louis, I will definitely keep an eye out and will pass on to others.  Do they live in MO?  My thoughts are with you.

I'm a bear cub.  That seems to be quite the popular animal on BPO!  I'm also a Bernese Mtn Dog.  I don't think I really agree with either animal though.  Sometimes those things are right on, but today maybe I'm just off.....

Hi, I'm new to this site, but I've been reading a few of your posts and I think they are wonderful.  You have such great ideas.  I'm definitely going to do this with the eye contact.  We have a 9 week old dane puppy now, and she only listens to you calling her about half of the time.  It makes total sense to do what you suggested, we're going to start right away.  Thanks so much.

What a great idea!  I'm going to try this tomorrow.  Right now, the little pup is selectively listening to us :-\  She knows her name, but only listens or even looks up about half the time.  She's a stubborn little thing!!! :D  I'll let you know how it goes.

Yep, I just found it.  How easy.  Amazing that I couldn't find that on my own.  Thanks.

I can't find wherever I'm supposed to go to vote.  I'm sure it's reallly easy, but I'm so frustrated right now!!!!! :-\

Hi and welcome to BPO!  I'm Stacy, and I'm new as well.  Perdi is very pretty.  Everyone here is very nice and very helpful, they've already helped me out a few times.  Maggie is our first Dane, and so of course we have a lot of questions.  Good luck, and enjoy. :)

Hi, how scary for you.  I hope that all works out, and I would definitely try to get another opinion much sooner, rather than later.  I do not try to know a lot about Danes, b/c this is our first one, but I have done tons of research in preparation for getting her.  Maybe don't worry about this now, b/c you need to find out the problem with your baby first, but I would think about SWITCHING THE FOOD FOR SURE!  I don't know much about the raw diet (but I've heard good things) , but I have heard not so great things about Science Diet.  Actually, some pretty awful things.  Whatever you choose to do, I would take him off of that food soon!  There are many quality foods for Danes, we now feed Eagle Pack to our baby girl, but ask anyone on here and they'll give you recommendation s for food.  They helped us out.  Or go to The Dane Lady's website- she specializes in giant breeds and has a whole list of brands that she recommends.

Also, I've always heard that you should feed an adult dog at least twice a day, especially when they are such large dogs.  I would get another veterinary opinion, and possibly a new vet.  Again, I am not trying to pretend that I know everything, or even very much, but I have really done research on foods, and what I mentioned above is important.  Hope this helps at all, and I hope things are OK for you and your Dane. :)

My husband and I made a deal that during the weekdays, I'll get up if she wakes in the night, since I don't work.  He then takes her out and feeds and plays with her before work, and I get up a little later.  Usually she sleeps all the way through until about 7:30, so I don't have to get up, but this morning at like 6am, my husband woke us all up with the loudest fart I've ever heard, and then he rolled all around making more noise, and then he started talking.   :P  Needless to say, Maggie woke up and needed to go out!  I told him since he woke her up, he had to take her out, and (surprisingly) he did! :D  I let him cuddle up when he got back, when I got finished laughing at Maggie's wake up call.  LOL.   ;D

Maggie's just still a puppy, but EVERYONE that sees her asks if she's a dalmation. :-\  I guess it can be hard to tell when she's so little, but still!  Only one lady came up so far and knew she was a dane, and that's b/c she had owned one once.  I hope that people do not cross the street to avoid us when she gets bigger.  Maggie loves everyone, she'll probably follow them over. :D

I get the "no cold feet" thing too!  What do they think they're allowed in our beds for, if not for that? ;)  Actually, Maggie's doing much better this evening.  I guess you guys were right, I tried to make it more fun, and I guess it's working.  She's actually gone up to the door tonight on her own, and wanted to go out!  She's a goofball.

That sounds absolutely miserable!  Thank god that she sleeps through the night already! ;D  I've had my fair share of 3-in-the-mornings with past dogs, and they are not fun.  Maggie goes out for the last time at around 10pm, and she doesn't even budge until 7:30am ;D  That is such a treat!!!

Yeah, I was told that this is not the best time to bring home a puppy (for these weather reasons), but do I ever listen?  No, we wanted the dog now, and now all of us (including her) have to suffer in the freezing outdoors!!! :D  The funniest part is that it's not even close to what it'll be in a few weeks.  Right now it's only in the low 40's to 30's.  Soon, she'll really know what cold is! :o   I went out today and got a heavy winter coat!  I'm ready now! ;D

I'm really excited for you!  Having a little baby around is great!  We just got our little Maggie last week.  She's the sweetest little thing ever!  Enjoy!

Those are some good ideas, I'll give 'em a try.  I do go outside with her every time though, I don't send her on her own.  She just stands there and shivers and cries.  Even if I try to walk around and get her to move with me, she's not a big fan of it.  This is just not the best time of the year to be housebreaking.  Thanks.
