General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / blind dog

Hey everyone,

I have a question for ya'll.  I have a geriatric Boston Terrier that is starting to lose her eyesight.  In the last four days she has run into the bedroom door frame, a chair, and she couldn't find her way back into the bedroom after coming in from outside.  I have never had a blind dog so I am not sure what to do to help her out.  I never move furniture because that would mean I would have to clean behind it.  I just give that area over to the giant dust bunnies to breed in.  When I adopted her from the shelter they estimated her age to be around 3 years give or take a couple of years.  So she is close to 13-15 years old.  I know she isn't a big paw but she still thinks she is and she actually has me really worried about her.  I am going to build her a ramp or stairs to get on and off the bed but I am looking for any other ideas on helping her.  Thanks for all the help.

Kat

PS.

I attached a picture of her when she first came from the shelter.  Her only two tricks she ever learned were "get your butt" and "kill the snake" where she attacked the hose.

Anything Non-Dog Related / cat question
« on: February 02, 2006, 06:36:07 pm »
Hey everyone,

My cat Voodoo has started vomitting up food after he eats.  However after he vomits he goes back and eats some more and that food he keeps down.  He isn't losing weight and his stools and everything else look good.  I was thinking about changing the cats' food to Natural Balance ultra cat food.  Any ideas of what else could be the problem.

Voodoo's background:
I found Doo and his brother in a pet store when they were less than 6 weeks old.  The pet store staff were trying to feed them dry adult cat food.  Doo had an infection in both eyes and was so weak that he couldn't even cry.  I took both kittens home and gave them both antibiotics and got them on kitten food.  We didn't think that Doo would make it through the night since he was so bad off hence his name Voodoo.  He is now close to 9yo and he just started the binging and purging.

Sorry this is long but thanks for the help.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / suggestions wanted

Hey Everyone,

I have been kicking around the idea of getting a playmate for Kaila and Cinder.  My only problem is that I can't seem to make a decision on breed or breed mix that I actually am looking for.  So I decided to open the floor up for suggestions.  Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.  My only requirements are that the dog be at least 60 lbs full grown and have short hair.  I guess I should add that Michael is hoping for something a little less "enthusiastic" as the girls.  This is all in the very beginning stages.   Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.

Kat

P.S.
I just had to add that Kaila turned a year old yesterday.  I will try and add some new pics of the girls tonight.  Now I have to get back to work.

Hey everyone,

I heard about this on the radio while at work this morning.  I had never heard of this before but I thought I would pass along the website.  The website is www.farmsanctu ary.com.  I will admit that the only part I really looked at was the adopting a turkey part of the website.  Mainly because that was what they were talking about on the radio.

Hi Everybody,

My name is Kat and I think I just actually joined.  I am extremely technilogicall y challenged and my computer and I were having a fight over me trying to register.  Anyway, now that you know I am insane and talk to my computer, I can introduce my dogs.  I have 2 belgian malinois girls.  Cinder is 20 months and Kaila is 11 months.  I have been lurking around checking things out for awhile and I decided to join.  Everybody seems really nice and friendly.  Just wanted to say hi and please forgive me if I do something wrong.  I have never been in a forum like this so I am apologizing now.
