Food Discussion & Information / Re: going grain free... need help
« on: March 24, 2009, 01:36:59 pm »
I had Kaila and Shiner on Evo for a long time and they loved it.  They did seem to like the Red Meat better than the Turkey/Chicken bag.  Kaila was getting 2c of food and Shiner was getting 1 1/2c of food.  They are now on Wellness Core and love it also.  They are both receiving 2c of food at the moment.  However, their food intake changes daily with exercise, heat, and general mood.  So I wouldn't worry too much about your boy not eating the recommended amount on the bag.  If you want to add a "gravy" to his food, Evo has cans and you can take a tablespoon of the canned food and mix with hot water and add to his food.  Hope that helps and your boys are gorgeous.

Paige, you have all the good vibes and thoughts I have.  Give Bella a big hug from me.  I will even make Shiner and Kaila cross their paws too.

Repo - just keeping heading south little man!  Call me as soon as you cross the border and I'll pick you up!!   :-*

So very sorry Ruthann. But you're so far away and so way of luck. Repo hits Idaho long before Texas. My girls won't EVER let Repo past the Idaho border.  ;) ;D

Don't worry Ruthann, I have this taken care of.  Once Repo hits Idaho I will get up there and release Kaila and Shiner so they will keep the girls confused and busy.  Then I will grab Repo and head back to Texas for all of us to snuggle with.  ;D

I love the new pic of Repo next to Zero.  Zero has his own personal mini-me!

OMG, Jo!  He's gotten so big and he's definitely a head turner!  I love the pic of his tushy as he is climbing the stairs.  Those pics just make me want to head to Canada and snuggle with him.

That's so great to hear.  Well, probably not so great in trying to keep her at a slow pace for recovery.  ;)  So glad that she is home and doing well.  Big hugs to all of you.

That boy is too cute!  Even killing the evil TP he has that "you can't get mad at the cutest boy in the room" look to him.

Maybe start counter conditioning and desensitising her to other people and dogs around while looking for a trainer.  Take her to a place where she is a good distance away from people/dogs/whatever makes her pull and lunge and then when she doesn't react give her treats like mad until the thing goes away.  Keep doing this and then slowly decrease the distance between her and the object that she is reacting to over a period of time.

I can sympanthize with you on this because Shiner does the same thing.  Unfortunately for my two I had just started looking for a behaviorist and then hit a financial slump.  So no trainer for us.

Poor Emily and Stella!  I remember those days but at least they have been many moons ago.  I got really lucky with Kaila and Shiner.  Neither one has been that destructive.  As long as you don't include their bodies in the destruction.   ::)

I have had male and female dogs coexist beautifully together and have had issues with females together.  I think I will stick to all males or male/female combo from now on.  I do know that as long as Kaila lives that there will not be another female in the house without separation for the girls.  I will say that inter-bitch fights seem to be way worse than male fights.  The males always just seem content to fight out pack heirarchy and stop but the females seem bent on death for their opponent.  I have also found through my experience with Kaila and Cinder that once the females start fighting it's just a matter of time before another fight breaks out between them and then separation is the only way to keep both dogs safe.

Sorry you have had a rough day.  This week seems to have been rough for everyone.  I think I will grab a beer and join you in a drink.

I'm having such puppy fever lately so I am super glad I just saw this and these pups have a wonderful home to go to.  They are too cute.   I agree I would be all over the one with tan points!

OMG, Jo!  I love your hair and love love little Repo!  I just watched the Eukanuba Dog Show on Animal Planet last night and started thinking about Repo when they showed a colored Bull Terrier female.

That boy is squeezably cute.
