Foster homes in the Western new York area are badly needed for Great Pyrenees Dogs rescued through the National Great Pyrenees Rescue, Inc. These dogs are pulled from kill shelters in the South as well as other states. Experience with large breed dogs and a fenced area is a plus. Must be willing to learn about the breed, keep this breed with a lust for wandering safe and secure, supply high quality food and perhaps some vetting and grooming. These are dogs in need and at risk for euthanasia unless someone with a big heart intervenes. Must be willing to keep the dog until a suitable forever home is found. If you are interested and own your own home and are over 18, please go to our website and fill out a volunteer application form http://www.nationalpyr.org/volunteer.php and someone will get back to you quickly.

For more information on the Great Pyrenees Breed, please go to: http://www.nationalpyr.org/about_the_breed.php

Also be sure to check out why there are so many of these dogs in need of help on the "Reasons for Rescue" page :

We have a Shephard/Collie that we are looking to get rid of.

We have a Shephard/Collie that we are looking to get rid of. He is a year and three months. He is a good dog, trained, housebroken. We have to give him up because he has a lot of energy so he would have to go to a home that preferably has a fenced in yard, or someone who would be able to spend a lot of time with him.We are going to get a puppy and start all over again. We live in an apartment and it is just not enough room for him. He also has some social problems with dogs. He does not know how to greet them, but we have been taking him to classes for this and he has been improving. If you would like to continue to take him to classes we could let you know where we take him. We are going to be giving the dog away to a good, loving home for free. If you would like his crate and toys it would be an extra $75. We have all of his paperwork and he has all his shots, and he is also neutered. Please give either of us a call if you have any questions or if you would like to come meet him. He is very friendly! Dave (516) 528-0540 Kari (585) 944-3733

PLEASE READ, MY DOG WAS KILLED!!!!!! (BUFFALO NY)

My name is owen and my dog was killed today april 10th at the dog park off porter ave. He was a 4 month old pug named mack. He was attacked by a newfoundland. The lady the owned the dog had him on a lesh and the dog dragged her to my dog and he attacked. It took about 10 people to get mack free from the dog. He was barely alive and we rushed him to the vet, however he died in my arms on the way there.
The lady ran off before we could get her information, and we couldn't chase after her because we wanted to get to the vet asap. Im hoping that some one will know the lady Im talking about.
1. She is in her late 30's to early 40's, she is about 5'8"ft tall to about 6ft. She also has long blond hair.
2. She had 3 dogs with her.
The first was a great pyarense that had gray fron legs
The second was a pure black newfoundland
The third was a white and black newfoundland how's name is oliver, he is the one that killed my dog.
3. Myself and the other witness have seen her there before.
I want this women to be brought to justice and to atleast say sorry for her dogs afull act. There is a small reward for any info that leads to us contacting her.

Thank you
Owen

I have fallen head over heals in love with a Boxer mix named Molly. The problem is she is located at Paulding Humane Society in Dallas, GA. I know I am constantly reading about shelter dogs being transported to Buffalo to be put up for adoption. I was hoping I could find a rescue or person who may be able to transport Molly up North here for me? I would hate to see her destroyed due to location when she could have a wonderful life here with me and my 2 Pugs. If you think you can help please contact me ASAP. Thanks!

Heather

Although i have never had the pleasure of meeting this person i feel like i have known her forever! The kindness she has shown me is truly humbling. Our love for dogs is what brought us together on this site but her offers of help in anyway she could brought me to tears. She is my BPO Angel !  This site is truly amazing Marina

After waiting 2 years i found out my date for surgery to have my Lap-Band put in!I was in a car accident a lady went through a red light she had 4 kids in the car ranging from 2 to 13 none of them in car seats or seat belted in. She totaled my husbands classic car that was his car since 17teen. My car spun around in a circle i could hear the kids screaming like on a roller coaster. She hit my car in 4 different places and i crashed into a granite curd and hit a building. She had no insurance the car was 1 day from being put into storage! I have had PTS 2 knee surgeries 3 herniated discs in my back and 2 years of PT. I gained over 150 pounds they will not operated on my back until i lose the weight. So needless to say i am a happy person!
PS There were no injuries in her car

Very affectionate, sweet, loving and a gentle girl who loves to kiss often and lay on your lap. Up to date on shots. Would like your vet references to secure a solid loving family home for her. Will discuss adoption fee with serious inquiries only. She is a purebred and does have AKC papers. She is one super friendly happy lady that will be the princess in your life. This is long but worth the read! :o :o :o :o

Thought I had heard everything- reasons for abandoning pets

Question:
While I was at the SPCA the other night picking up a rescue I overheard a couple who were giving up their dog. When I first looked at the dog on the counter I thought it was a golden pup but when it turned around it was obvious it wasn't. The dog was around 2 years old and very friendly, happily greeting the people who worked there. The reason he was being given up ... now get this... the people were told when they bought him as a pup that he was a Spaniel which it turns out, he is not. He looked like a cross between a Blonde cocker and King Cavalier spaniel. Somebody at the puppy mill made a mistake, I guess. He had been through obedience training. When they complained to whomever they bought him from that he didn't look like a spaniel they agreed to refund half their money and sell them another dog. They were told by the "breeder" that he would be euthanized and they didn't want that so they brought him to the SPCA. Wasn't that nice of them? I had to shut my mouth and get out of there. He meant no more to him than a piece of furniture.

Answer:
I wonder how many dogs they will go through before someone at the SPCA finally cracks. There are people I wish we could "rehome" to another planet - those two would be on the first flight out.

Answer:
Wow!! IF I found out in a few years that Joey was half american cocker or half basset hound or other breed I wouldnt be bringing him to the spca.

I would however ask for half my money back....... just kidding on that one

Answer:
What kind of people don't get emotional bound to a family pet after 2 years?
What kind????
I don't even want to know.

They are the kind of people who get rid of their dogs because they don't "go with" their designer lifestyles.

Answer:
Just think a step on from this, They may even have or be able to have kids And god knows if they arnt perfect

Answer:
when I worked in rescue, I remember someone surrenering a dog because it did not match the couch, and she asked if she could adopt one of the same color as her couch. Needless to say after the poor dog was with us, I laughed in her face.... some people think of dogs and cats as objects with no life to them very sad. I had to get out, I was too emotionally drained

Answer:
I adopted Daisy from the spca. While I was waiting for the paperwork,a couple came in and surrender a 3 yr old black labrador, very nice dog, very happy. The reason;he jumps on them when he's happy!!!The staff and me were exchanging looks, the dog wasn't neutered so they told the couple it might help to get the dog neutered, they said;no,no,anyway,we work and are not at home during the day!!!WOW!We all bit our lips.Imagine working there and hearing those stupid people and comments all day long.

Answer:
ya working in the rescue field for many years you hear it all, there are alot of people out there. The one I liked the best was a woman who left her sleeping baby in the car while she went into have a look at the cats available for adoption, she came up to the counter to fill out paperwork on a cat that had just been brought up to the front viewing rooms " I'd like to adopt that cat because.... she has the same colour hair as I do" this cat was a very red persian that had to be shaved down because of all the matting, I did have to agree with the woman that they did have the same colour hair but... over my dead body she would adopt her woman. Another time, a couple brought in their old dog because they didn't want to take it on vacation, little did they know that their old dog was heartbroken and died in my arms acouple days later, it made me and very to think how could they do this to their old dog.

Answer:
I couldnt do it!! thats for sure, i have a bit of a "mouth" and would end up telling mostly everyone off! I dont have patience for stupid people and I let them know! ( therefore i could never work at a shelter, the pets would end up suffereing in the long run)
the people were told when they bought him as a pup that he was a Spaniel which it turns out, he is not. He looked like a cross between a Blonde cocker and King Cavalier spaniel.
It took 2 years to notice that!!! Whatever, just needed an excuse to "dump" the poor doggie off! I couldnt have kept my mouth shut there (however i would have let them know what i felt after the dog was signed over!!)

I wouldnt care ( like most of us on here) if I was told my dog was a Boxer but ended up being half and half Rottie. I would have loved her as much! SOME PEOPLE are rediculous!!!!!!

Answer:
It would be the same thing if the hospital called me and told me they'd made a mistake and the kids were mixed up with soemone elses and I didn't bring home my baby. I wouldn't give them back.

And when we got Joey they told us he was shih tzu and he seemed like such a friendly dog. We got him home and found out that he was not all shh tzu. We couldn't have cared less as we werent shopping for a particular breed. We also found out, after we got him home, that he was a grumpy guy. Not the easygoing pup he seemed. It turns out he just seemed calm because he was scared.

But once he was home he was HOME. That was that. You bring them in, you love them. End of story.

Answer:
If they bought from a breeder selling mutts, how did they find out he wasn't pure? A moron is a moron, you know? I mean most people believe the papers no matter what if they haven't done any research...

Losers.

Answer:
It is truly shocking what some people do with their animals. They should be shut up in an asylum!

Answer:
When I receive a call from someone wanting to surrender a dog I ask them why. They will proceed to give me some excuse and assume I will sympathize with them. No way am I going to absolve them of their guilt. They are going to ask God for forgiveness because they aren't getting it from me. I take the dog, have them sign it over to me and then say goodbye.

Last week I received a call from someone who wanted Tally. The person assumed I would just turn her over to them, probably expected me to deliver her too. The person went on to tell me that they were the best person for Tally. That set off some warning signals. Anhow this person told me they use to have a golden, it died and recently got another type of dog, a purebred, took obedience classes and spent a fortune on it. She then went on to say that the day before she had given away the other dog because it had eaten some shoes, boots and a couch. She made sure to tell me she gave it away, twice, like I would be impressed that she didn't sell it. She then said she worked at home but the dog would have to leave her alone as she worked. Yup, I am going to hand Tally over to her, NOT!!!!!!!!!

Answer:
OMG that's horrible! Thank goodness for screening.

Answer:
We had a husky that was pulled from the pound and taken into our rescue. She was about 8 years old and left there by her owner who said they were moving and couldn't take her (typical story). She had cancerous lumps all over her body, infected and abscessed teeth and nails that were turning under her paws. She spend something like 3 hours on the operating table. Her bills were well over $1000.

She was very distraught by being given up at such a late age, as most are, and it took her months to settle in. This woman who dropped her off had the nerve to contact the foster home and ask to visit her dog because she really missed her. She was told it wouldn't be fair and would be too hard on the dog. They told her everything this poor dog had been through and all the owner said was "oh, I didn't know she was sick".

This beautiful Husky found a super home after months and months of waiting. The people loved her and she had a little girl to play with who adored her. Unfortunately she had another tumour we weren't aware of and passed away after only 3 months of being in her new home. Thats all we can ever ask for, is for them to be loved until their last day. If she had been taken care of properly by her owner she might still be here!

Answer:
Boots, shoes, couch....I love this dog with all my heart!! Need I say more??

Answer:
He (Boobear) has grown out of the chewing stage... I'm just a pack rat?? And it was always ONE shoe...never both!! I can replace shoes...not him!

Answer:
I can replace shoes...not him!
Some people just dont have this logic or simply value matierial things more than the love and companionship of a pet!!
My Kita gurl destroyed my couch when she was 7 months old!!! withing 20 minutes!!!! I left for work and my boyfriend called me on my way and informed me of this. I was upset but heck IT WAS JUST A COUCH!!! (replaceable) and i stand firmly on the fact that "Dogs do dog things!!" The list of things around my house that have been destroyed by my dogs is prolly endless, there has been alot of things and im sure that there will be more!!
Ex: Guys hipwaders, aircompressor hoses, Meiko stole a cordless drill and burried it in the flower garden, shoes shoes and more shoes, couch, shed door, every year we have to buy a new garden hose!! the list goes on!! NEVER would i "dispose" of any of them for this!!!! EVER!! It makes my dogs who they are, the chewing has slowed down but not stopped!!! And thats fine with me!!
Some people are just to much!!!

Answer:
Our Akita when we had him made a hole all the way through a King size mattress. Of course right in the middle of the top mattress and half way through the box spring. What a mess that was!!!
The two GWP that I have now, when pups, liked my brand new leather shoes, and at that my favorite ones, but only chewed one of the shoes never two. The couch arm looks like one of my dining room chairs, but the whole round end of mine was no longer any where to be found! I am thankful they are grown up now.
Oh but watch those knee high nylons, that might fall off the shelf, one of them ate it, two weeks ago, but gave it back to me about four days later and left it in the backyard. He must have known i was looking for it. Just thankful I got it back! LOL. I kept looking for it and WA LA there it was on the grass. Elaine

Answer:
LOL don't get me started on this - I have reasons to complain! For one thing, Hunter was supposed to be a beagle/blue heeler mix and for a while he looked the part. If only you could see him now. He's also bigger, His face reminds me of a pitbull more than a beagle (his skin is stretched except over his eybrows and the corner of his lips - you can't see the "pitbull" look all the time it's just... You have to look at him long enough to get it) and possibly a mix with another big dog.... Maybe like a german pointer... he's big enough to reach EVERYTHING including countertops... . They told us he would be a "small" dog. He's growing so fast he's past "small" and onto "medium" now and he's only 4 months!

And then my mom's dog is hillarious. They also said she was a "small terrier mix"... Well that dog's head already reaches my waist - she is BIG.

Would we return our dogs just because they don't fit the description we originally got them for? no! Instead, we're crazy enough to move out of our apartments and try to buy a house with a nice back yard. People who get pets for "designer" purposes are just plain stupid. Pets become family and all you ahve to do is take one good look at their little eyes and know that whether you like it or not, their world now revolves around YOU.

Answer:
these stories are truly hilarious. I love dogs but have cats. We bought a beautiful pedigreed English boxer named Boots. He was only 9 months old when we had to move from South Africa to England. Well, I was devasted .I didn't have the heart to put him in quarantine for 6 months, which was the law then in the UK. So I gave him to my sister who lived on a small holding and our cat as well. Believe me, it broke my heart, but the thought of quarantine for 6 months for my pets who were used to large grounds etc was too much. They were in good care and given all the love. I vowed never again in my life would this happen. We moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town and our 3 cats flew with us. We then had to move to Belgium and I told my husband that if our cats can't come with, then I was not going! Fortunately there is no quarantine period in Belgium so our 3 cats flew with us and here we are! Also at our own expense, the company would not pay to relocate them either! My one cat is 12, and the other 2 are 15 years old.
I have never had a problem with them, I have been firm with them and they know that they are not allowed on the kitchen table tops and they don't claw the furniture either etc. To my mind rearing a pet is just the same as bringing up children they need love , understanding and discipline.
Heidi

Answer:
When we were moving we fixed up the old house to make it more saleable, you know painting just general make it beautiful.Afte r we finished Hawk and Oscar, the greys decided to start chewing window frames.Tess started jumping on the front door and trying to dig it open, made scratches about an inch deep in the door and destroyed the gyproc on both sides, one of the cats(never found out who)started peeing in the bathtub. It felt like a conspiracy to make us not move.In the end we managed to buy our farm and move before we sold the old one,the house sold empty nine days after we moved and the gang went back to normal instead of housewreckers.

Answer:
Just shows how perceptive our pets are! Whenvever we go away as soon as our cats see our suitcases come out, they know something is up!

If you like big dogs I'm it. I am a two year old female saint bernard. My mom adopted me a few months ago from an army family who had to go overseas and needed to find her a home. After I moved in so did her 15 month old grandson who thinks I'm a horse so I am not able to have free run of the house anymore. Mom says she would love to keep me but it's not fare to me to be separated from the rest of the family. Oh by the way I'm not to happy with my new dad cause he isn't really a dog lover. for more info and pics please email my mom at mtucker7@twcny.rr.com or call 315-265-0321

She is a 8 month old Dobbie mix although she will only be less then 40 pounds she is so sweet and loveable. I wish that someone will take this sweet pup and give pork chop a wonderful home! Marina
