General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Are we sure today isn't Monday?
« on: September 02, 2008, 05:25:05 am »
It is 7:20 and I can already say what a day...

Today is my first day back to work after having the summer off!!

I go downstairs feed and water Harley and grab a snack for my lunch..I drop a little tiny piece of a baked cheeto behind Harleys water and food dish (which is raised) I say "self you need to pick up that little tiny piece of Cheeto or Harley is going to know over everything to get it - naw says self so I walk away.....you guessed it:

BANG - CRASH - SKITTER SKITTER SKITTER - Harley knocked over the food and water and RAN away - off course it was all fresh and full and I have a mess on the floor my husband (you know the one who doesn't LOVE Harley or any messy dog for that matter) has just washed on his hands and knees yesterday!!  Get out the paper towels - nope to big a mess for that - OK the wet dry vac - trudge out to the garage find it, dust it, bring it in its working!!!  Oops when I turned it off all the water still in the hose comes back out onto my feet which of course are all ready for work and now I am grossed out!!  Back to the paper towels and then off to wash my feet need to be at work in 4 minutes - but yet I am writing to BPO - I hope the rest of the days gets better!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!!  For those of you with much bigger problems than me (hurricanes, illness etc.) I'm sorry to be bit^&in about something so trivial!!!

The pups parents are both owned by the people it was a whoops!!

The mother is a pure breed Maltese
The father is a mixed breed the owner said beagle and terrier no way he has a long body like a basset or corgi and he is brindle color with wire hair!!  Actually kind of ugly but so ugly he is cute!!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Computer help - NDR
« on: July 24, 2008, 09:35:59 am »
Hi everyone - we haven't been on much in the past few weeks running my darlings all over creation - I thought this was my summer vacation also??

Anyway my darling son who is a good boy but driving me crazy lately has pushed me to the edge and I want to block his computer usage.  He is a user on my computer (doesn't have his own) but he has password protected his account so I can't block anything - I know as the system administrator I can still get on but I can't figure out how does anyone know?

Thanks

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Look - I did something fun today!!
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:40:38 pm »
I did my very first transport.  Two white German Shepards I drove them from Buffalo to Rochester I had them for a total of 1 1/2 hours and I could have kept them both - I could sooo easily be a transport or foster failure!!

I give all of you who do rescue and foster care soooo much credit!!

Fae is about 6 months old and will be going to a family who will train her to be a service dog.  She is soooo sweet she lets you hug her and rub her belly; just a doll.

Oliver can be quite a handful - he bounded out of the car I was meeting - thankfully I caught him - he pulls on the leash and has pulled on my daughter and my hearts!!  I feel badly - I told him he was going to his forever home - but found out that he is actually going to a foster home - maybe they will be foster failures and keep him!!

Here are a few pictures of my new friends who I wish the best of luck and a long and healthy life!!  As you can see from the beautiful picture of my it was quite windy here today!!

That is my daughter hand holding Olivers paw!

So my neighbor is watching a 12 year old boy who was suspended for school - they just can't handle him; his father passed away two years ago mom has to work and he has ADHD.

A couple of days ago my neighbor asked him why is he always at my house playing with Harley instead of playing with her dog Rusty - his reponse was "Harley and I understand each other Harley has ADHD just like me".

First let me say I have invisible fence I have it inside and outside.  It was in the house when we bought it.  I was looking up retraining invisible fencing boundaries because we have rewired the yard to give Harley more room to run.  For whatever reason when the fencing was installed they cut the yard pretty small and the yard isn't big to begin with.

Anyway while searching I kept coming across articles that got me thinking...ele ctrical current going thru the body...heart condition...fe ar against kids, dogs, critters that may be in the road and when your dog goes after them the dog gets zapped.

Our town has very strict zoning laws and no fences are allowed in the front yard - so Harley would have to stay in the back - where we have a large in ground pool and basically no yard - he can run around the pool but thats it - is that better?

I'm feeling sooo badly that I have done this to Harley, he doesn't seem to care - but current going thru his body.. :'(

Sorry so long

I generally can't get a decent picture of Harley he usually looks like a big black lump with no eyes - but I borrowed a very nice camera from work to take prom pictures of my son this weekend and snapped this one of Harley

Isn't that the saddest face...and its not because there is a hole in his bed!  We tried to get him a new bed and he likes this one best!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Transporting a car??
« on: May 10, 2008, 08:20:33 am »
OK I know I ask the strangest not dog related questions but here is another one:

I need to transport a car from Boca Raton Florida to Rochester NY - does anyone have any idea what something like that should cost?  I am doing some comparison shopping and I'm surprised by the costs.

Thanks for any information you can provide - you guys are awesome!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Kentucky Derby : (
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:03:07 am »
I don't go out of my way to watch horse racing but The Kentucky Derby is special and I was visiting my husband in the hospital - not much else to do.

During the almost 12 hours of pre-race coverage I came to know Eight Belles a beautiful, very large, filly who had a chance to actually win.  I rooted (sp?) for her she was so beautiful : (.  She came in second....and now she is gone I couldn't believe it; I didn't know her or anyone affiliated with her but she was sooo beautiful - I was literally devistated.

So RIP Beautiful 8 Belles I hope you enjoyed your short life and last race you certainly gave it your all.

Anything Non-Dog Related / If you are in Western NY Stay OFF the roads
« on: April 25, 2008, 07:43:27 pm »
Life has been an absolute nightmare around here - taking mothers to emergency room at 2:30 AM - hubby goes in for major surgery tomorrow and Passover (jewish holiday where you can't eat food with any flavor and VERY fattening)

Then my son turns 16 and wants to drive - so yesterday was his first day - hubby took him to the mall (when it was closed) hubby calls and says go out to the driveway - he let him drive home from the mall!!  Not far about 10 minutes but on roads with people!!

So if you are in western ny look out for a silver X-terra with a smiling YOUNG man behind the wheel.

For all you newer Moms enjoy the babies - I was crying yesterday I remember him getting off the kindergarten bus!!

Ugh - well now we are off to rent a tux for the Junior Prom! (he's a sophmore - why oh why can't he wait!)

OK enough from the stressed, emotional mother

Anything Non-Dog Related / we are visiting west virginia next week
« on: April 07, 2008, 06:30:54 pm »
Hi everyone,

My family and I will be traveling to Charleston West Virginia next week.  We live in Rochester NY and our boys varisty baseball team goes down on spring break for a bonding experience for the team and to play some teams from outside of our area.  (time to boast - my son is the only sophmore on the team!!)

So if anyone knows of any wonderful things to do in that particular area please pass the information on

Harley will be sad but well taken care of by our wonderful neighbor.

Thanks

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / I had to turn off Oprah
« on: April 03, 2008, 04:53:59 pm »
Well today is the show on puppy mills and shelters.   When I set the DVR last night my husband wanted to know what I was taping - when I told him - he told me that I shouldn't watch that it will upset me; I hate to admit it but he was right - I turned in and when they started at the shelter that has to put 40 dogs to sleep per day - I just about lost it.  I had a horrible day at work and then that - to much!!

I WANT to do something but I can't figure out what??  I can't start a rescue hubby doesn't like dogs.  I tried to volunteer at the local shelter - they needed someone that could stick to a schedule and because of my kids I need something where I can devote some hours everyweek but not the same hours.

I donate money.

It sickens me when people get rid of 8 year old and older dogs (I know there are situations where it is necessary; perhaps when the human owner passes away) but they can't find any family or friend who would take a beloved pet?  I was thinking of trying to only adopt older animals so they will be loved and cared for in their senior years but is that fair to my family to get attached and have the dog become sick and of course then their is the expense???

Oh well I'm ranting...I did tape the show and hope to be able to watch it fully a day when perhaps I'm not so emotional...ho nestly, I'm always this emotional!!

I would love to work with Paige but of course she is in Texas and I'm in upstate NY.

Any ideas of how to help would be greatly appreciated!!

Did any of you watch the show?  Do you really think Oprah will only get shelter dogs now?

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / He's not going to be very happy
« on: March 25, 2008, 05:35:21 pm »
Harley looks so handsome today - the mobile groomer came to our house and gave him a nice bath, nail clipping and hair cut - that was torture number one

Now for tortune number two - I want to teach an older dog (6 years old) new tricks...in other words, I want to train Harley to be a better, more well behaved dog.  He has been to a few obedience trainers as well as staying at one for over a week...he really listens to her..just not us.

So the reasoning is, as some of you know my husband really doesn't like Harley, he admits he is a wonderfully gentle dog who is great with kids, but that he doesn't listen at all.  (for the most part that is true).  So last night I was trying to behave and walk on the treadmill (not something I enjoy and would look for any excuse to get off) so Harley starts barking over and over at my husband who is sitting on the couch keeping me company.  Hubby got mad at Harley, I get mad at Hubby and accuse everyone of trying to screw up my diet and exercise.  Hubby goes upstairs, slams the door and leaves Harley and I downstairs, I'm really OK with this but I think Harley could have a better life if hubby liked him so...

I want to teach Harley some manners.  He knows sit and down but will not, will not stay!!  He whines and barks excessively.  When giving him a treat or dinner he does sit first.  So all you wonderful trainers with good dogs - where do I go from here?

Thanks, sorry soooo long

Anything Non-Dog Related / Do you have a GPS (O/T)
« on: March 20, 2008, 12:30:00 pm »
Hi everyone,

We are looking into buying a portable GPS system for our car.  It looks as though we will be doing some traveling this summer for my sons baseball team and I am GREAT at getting lost.

I know I want a 4.3" screen and voice command...but that is all I know so if anyone has a GPS they love or hate or just suggestions as to what I may look for please let me know.

Harley isn't overjoyed about this new travel but thankfully we have a WONDERFUL neighbor who will take excellent care of him!!

As always thanks for any advise

I am looking for a phrase, saying or message for the back of they t-shirts we sell.  I can't come up with anything an example would be: pride, power...Barons (we are the Barons).

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks
