Thanks you for your thoughts and stories.  The funeral is tomorrow and It will be hard but will provide closure.  I'm still sad, but I know she's in a much better place.

Is the dog pictured the one you're looking to name? Noel is a pretty name.  To me it is definately associated with overcoming hardship.  The spokesdog for the rescue group that I work for is named Noel becaus she was found around christmastime amlost beated to death and her ears cut off.  She is a wonderful dog with a sad story.  I can share more later and post some pics if you like...

names I like...

Liberty - associated with freedom...your new baby (I've failed fostering too) is starting a new life with you...a new freedom..and if your patriotic...th er you're set

Lenci - a Kuvasz is hungarian right? - This is a Hungarian name meaning Light

Asa - the morning - a new day..a new life for a new dog

Bela - mean the white one..another Hungarian name

Just a few suggestins from me...good luck...

I'm pretty new to the forum...so most of you don't know me...but my Grandmother died today.  She was a beautiful person and I will miss her.  I was not able to be there with her but all of her children were there and she went very peacefully.  She had been in the hospital for about a month wearing a mask that forced air into her lungs. She had also lost her vision due to Macular Degeneration.  I know she is in a better place now and she can breathe freely and can see clearly for the first time in a long time.  I'm sorry I'm bringing a damper to the group...but I needed a little space to get some feelings out...and maybe get some warm fuzzies from the group.

Hello everyone! - I've posted on the giant Schnauzer areas but I have'nt introduced myself and the baby to anyone else!  I am the pround new foster mom of a 3 month old Giant Schnauzer named "Shy."  She was donated to the rescue group I work for to be used as a Therapy dog.  We're not exactly sure which area of therapy she will fit in best...but she's going to be a very special dog.  I am going to take her through pbedience and get her housebroken... .and I may actually keep her and use her for therapy myself.  I have another Lab mix that is certified through the Delta society and she and "Shy" have become great friends already.  My 2 Rat Terriers are not quite as sure about her  She was 3 months old on the 5th and she is 22 lbs.  I am in Columbus GA so not too far from the Atlant area...glad there's some other Georgia folks around here! Nice to meet you all...I'm already addicted to this site!  Heres some pics of my crew!

Hello all! I have a 3 month old Giant Schnauzer names "Shy."  I am raising her to be a therapy dog and just wanted to post some pics of her with my other therapy dog...shes a lab mix named Micah.  Also I love the pictures of Lola!  Shy was born September 5, 2005 and now at 12 weeks she is 22 lbs.  She hasn't been groomed yet and her ears will stay natural.  She's so sweet and I just wanted to introduce her to everyone!

Hey - Thanks for your reply.  Right now I'm just the puppy raiser.  If I feel that I may have the funds to keep her I can use her for therapy on my own.  I have a Lab mix that is certified through Delta society for therapy.  I wanted to wait 2 weeks at least to take her to heavily populated dog areas like the park or petsmart to socialize her just because I want to make sure that her vaccines have had time to start working so Home Depot or Lowes would be great! .  Unfortunately we don't have any dog parks around here because I found with my female Rat Terrier that was the best place to get her socialized.  I work with a group in Georgia called PAWS who runs an adoption center that is partnered with the local pound to help them cut down on the amount of stray dogs that are euthanized in our community.  We also have alot of outreach groups that focus on humane education and therapy.  I am able to take "Shy" to work with me so I have taken her everyday since I brought her home and she has become much more friendly.  She's become more playful although whenever I take her to work she sleeps all day long!  She is so sweet...but is learing to jump up on to people so Im trying to make sure that doesn't become a habit.  I'm trying to have all of my friends come over to the house to meet her and anytime I see someone walk by the office I ask them if they want to meet her and they generally oblige.  As far as feeding...what have you all had good luck feeding your dogs...is large breed puppy good or bad because I've hear that it makes them grow too fast...When should I get her groomed?...What kind of grooming supplies do I need?  ???  How do I attatch some more images?

I am a new proud foster mother to a 3 month old Giant Schnauzer! I have been trying to do some research on the breed...but I figured that the best advice I could get would be from Giant Schnauzer owners! She is very shy right now and just got her third set of shots yesterday so I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can start taking her places where she can be socialized. She is warming up quickly and has become fast friends with my 1.5 year old lab mix.  Everytime she goes outside she comes in covered in leaves.  The breeder intended for her to be used as a theapy dog so that she can make visits to nursing homes, schools or perhaps be a companion to someone suffering from seizures or an autistic child.  She will definately be a special dog.  I was just hoping that I could get some tips on feeding, training, energy level (she's pretty calm right now but I'm used to Rat terrier puppies!) - anything will help! I'll post some pics as soon as I can - She's a doll!
