Remembering those no longer with us. / Rest in Peace Katy
« on: October 09, 2007, 03:44:54 pm »
This is one of the hardest things I've had to write.  Katy who some of you may remember that we babysat occasionally lost her fight with seizures tuesday morning. She fell into a coma and her mom (a vet) couldn't bring her back though they tried everything. She was only three years old. She could be a stubborn troublemaker but she loved everyone. If there was any sort of water she was in it and she definitely loved to be around the horses. She will be greatly missed.

She was related to Zoey and is the second we've lost this year. I really hope karma bite's their breeder in the butt soon before she hurts any other people and their dogs. Needless to say everyone's pretty devastated to have lost her so I would appreciate if you kept her and her family in your thoughts.

Here are some pictures...I plan to make a slideshow video for her mom later so I'll post that too when it's finished.

Newfoundland Pictures / Cape Cod Newf Invasion (with pics)
« on: September 21, 2007, 10:12:24 pm »
Well since Fumbs got the okay from the vet for play we brought Kali out to the Cape to see him. Zeus and his dad ended up meeting us there too. We had a great time.  It was a bit cramped sitting in the back of the Jetta with Kali since she insisted on sitting on me pretty much the whole ride.

We met at Eiren and Stacy's house then went to the ocean beach. Kali and Fumble were chickens and mainly waded though Kali eventually went in further than normal. Zeus was in working mode he was obsessed with retrieving seaweed and shells until Stacy brought the bumper out for him. He is such a good swimmer and was trying to teach the chickens how it's done which was pretty funny.

After they got worn out we loaded everyone back into the cars and headed back to Fumb's house. Then the newfs were rinsed off in the outdoor shower (their idea of torture ::)).  They were spoiled with watermelon, pizza crusts, ice cubes and ice cream...all of the favorites which made up for the fact they had been rinsed towelled and brushed.  Also we finally gave Fumbs his Birthday present which was the raised feeder in the pic with Kali.

Overall we had a great time so a big thanks to Eiren, Stacy and Fumbs for being great hosts.  We'll have to get together agian before it gets too cold.

And here are some pics:

Newfoundland Pictures / Kali has a new Capemobile
« on: August 05, 2007, 04:48:53 am »
And she's leaving without us  :D.  I just got a 2004 Volkwagen Jetta TDI yesterday so we were taking pics when Kali decided she was going to see the Fumbs with or without us....luckily she didn't have the key. Oh btw this car is already getting about 40 mpg as it's the diesel engine and very efficient. Unfortunately the newf can't stick her head out while the car is going as it has curtain airbags and I'm afraid they'd hurt her but I do have AC and a sunroof. I definitely love this car as does the Kali...Lacey hasn't ridden in it yet as the seats are black cloth and she's shedding like crazy. Here are some pics.

Come on Aunty let's GO!!!

Please!

Give me the keys!

The funny part is she jumped right into the driver's seat and tried to climb into the back and passenger seat....she was definitely ready to go. So girls be on the lookout for Kali as I'm afraid she'll steal the keys and go for a visit.

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Some Lacey pics
« on: July 03, 2007, 07:41:34 am »
Here's some pics of our spaz. She's still a turkey but she listens a lot better than she used to. Though she had no attention span while I was trying to take these pics. She also has decided she'll walk herself both her and Kali do this sometimes I don't have to hook the leashes on as they'll hold onto it themselves  ::).

I also posted some recent pics of Kali in the newfy forum.

Sorry we haven't been around much. It's been a busy month with training Fire and starting my engineering internship. Tim's been busy expanding the landscaping business.  Kali's been her silly self. She still loves soccer if you couldn't tell from the pics below. She had problems with her ears but they're doing alot better now. Here's the pics of the goof.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Fire's first horse show!
« on: June 10, 2007, 08:49:40 am »
For the horse people on the board I figured I'd give you and update on him.  He took first place in his model class today.  Model is an in-hand class for those that don't know.  He was very good and the judge loved him.  My cousin's mare got second...I was suprised we beat her as she's a grulla and gorgeous.

He was good until it came time to load him back on my cousin's trailer for the ride home.  He refused to get on no matter what we tried...I think we tried every known trick known to horsepeople but nothing worked.  I had to have my dad bring our trailer from home.  He got lost and the area we were in had no cell reception.  He finally got there and after 4 hours of trying everything to get him on my cousin's trailer he walked right onto ours.  I was ready to kill him...hahaha.  He also stomped on my foot a few times so it matches the other one he smushed last time we took him to a show to hang out.....I was supposed to save him from a horse and buggy (he's from Amish country and he was still afraid of it  ::) ).

Here are some pics:

Newfoundland Pictures / Fumble came for a visit!! *with lots of pics*
« on: March 31, 2007, 01:51:07 pm »
Well the girls brough the Fumbs down for a visit and we got a gorgeous day for it.  Kali and Fumbs had a blast and are some very tired pups. Fumble was obsessed with the horses for a while and Fire being curious came over to say hi throughout the day...he wanted to play too.  Fumble also tried out some of our agility stuff though he got stuck in the tunnel cause it collapsed in front of him though he wasn't phased by it.  He also thought it fun to stand in the water bucket and knock it over then he'd sit and wait for us to refill it (I swear we had to refill it over ten times hahaha.  Neither would let the other lay down so they were pretty much playing the entire time plus Fumbs followed Kali everywhere she went. They also got some yummy Dairy Bar ice cream. Needless to say everyone had a great time.

Saint Bernard Pictures / Pics of our Visitors!!
« on: February 18, 2007, 03:42:42 pm »
Our vet had to go to a convention in Vegas so we get her kids for the week. They love to roughhouse so we're hoping that there are no holes in the walls at the end of the week.  They sleeping at the moment but will probably be pouncing on each other before long.  Lacey's being seperated so she won't be smushed but we let them do supervised play.  Plus Kali gets jealous if Lacey's playing with Tyler. Here are the pics keep your fingers crossed for a seizure free week as they both get them.

Big Dogs with Jobs / Some agility Pics
« on: January 05, 2007, 03:25:21 pm »
I've had these pics but I kept forgetting to post them.  My brother (Tspanos) and I got my mom agility stuff for Christmas.  We now have a 16' tunnel, a teeter stand, 5 jumps, and a tire jump.  We plan to make more in the Spring the weaves are cut but need spikes and we still need a pause table, Aframe and dog walk.  Here's the mini course I set up.  They've already taken me out twice ducking out in front of me ::).

Anything Non-Dog Related / Update on Fire the new horse with pics
« on: December 20, 2006, 10:38:53 pm »
I figured I'd give the horsey members an update on my progress with Fire.  He has settled in very well though he's still a little skittish about some stuff.  He's afraid of my mom's mare because she's ripped three of his blankets already.  He's gotten alot better about picking up his feet (he fell when my mom first tried when we were looking at him ::)).  The big news is that I sat on him for the first time last weekend.  He is super comfortable to ride.  He's now measuring 16.1 at the withers and 16.2 at his butt. I plan to start serious ground work with him next week.  He also wore a bridle for the first time but we had to get him an even bigger bit so now he's wearing a 6" French training snaffle.  I'll attach pics of me sitting on him (It was actually my second time on him cause we didn't have anyone to take pics the first time.

Newfoundland Pictures / Kali found her Christmas tree
« on: December 10, 2006, 01:21:31 am »
We took Kali to the xmas tree farm to pick out her tree. It's one of the places that they give you a handsaw and you go out and cut down the tree you like.  She had more fun than she did last year.  She was trying to drag me all over the farm and loved every minute of our search.  We took some pics of her being festive and of her and Santa. All the staff loved her and said she was extremely well behaved and Santa loved the fact she was dressed like him.  Most of the pics are of her with my mom and dad (her very proud grandparents) but I'm in the one of her and Santa. She was such a good girl but she wore herself out.

Posing for the camera.

Fire is HOME!!!! Is was about a 5.5 hr ride back with him.  It was his first time trailering and he was unsure about getting on. We have a three horse slant and had given him a double stall cause he's so big. Unfortunately it turned out that he had been right to be afraid. Within a few minutes of starting out we heard a little banging but nothing that'd indicate a big problem so we figured it was just him trying to find his feet. But it was the divider closest to him that sheared off and landed on him.  Now he has a few cuts on his face and hind leg and we have a broken/ bloody trailer. Luckily the canvas feedbin in that stall kept it away from him Needless to say it scared us to pull into the restarea to check on him and not have him at the door anymore but facing the back bleeding with the divider in the floor.  All I have to say is thank god he is such a calm horse even though he's only two.  He let us into the trailer with him (even though to him we were strangers)and let us get the divider out with no problem.  After that we just let him stay loose facing the back and moved his hay so we could get it....and at the end of the trip he was a gentleman walking off of the trailer.  He wasn't too sure of the barn and his new surroundings so it took a little encouragement to get him to go into his new stall.  Gabby our mare loves him and so far her attitude has been very good. I didn't realize how big he was until I put him in the stall. I'll post some more pics of him later.

PS he measures 16h at the withers, 16.1 at his butt and 1235lbs.
