Anything Non-Dog Related / I'm getting my new horse!!!!!!

I just got a chestnut Belgian/ Appendix cross gelding.  He's only 2 and already over 16h  :o.  He has the best personality though.  He is very aware of your space and a complete puppy dog.  So pending a flexion test and coggins he'll be minee!!!  He's hopefully coming home Saturday but he's in southern PA (8 miles from maryland so it's going to be a long drive).  Here's some pics of Frozen Assets aka Fire.

It's time for another meetngreet at the Cape. I think we should shoot to be there around 11am-12pm.  I know the usual suspects will most likely be there but I hope to see some new faces and pups!  Fumble's Mom and Aunty will probably be posting directions later.  Let us know if you want to come and if you're going to bring anything.  We'll be bringing apple cider and mulling spices for some hot cider.  We had lots of fun last time and I hope to see you all there!  Also maybe we should distribute cell numbers this time so we can all find each other.

Hey we're going to the fall funday and figured we'd post the heads up for the rest of the NE Newf Pack.  We went to the Spring one and it was lots of fun. So Rich, Shawna, Eiren and Stacy are you coming?  Kali wants to see her two boys and Sadie too.  Let us know if you're going so we can plan to meet up.  And maybe we can take the pups to Kimball's for icecream after.

I got some pics while were driving around town with Kali.  She loves car rides.  I wish I had gotten a picture from the outside of when she was standing on the seats with her tail out one window and her head out the other.

PS her neck was shaved two weeks ago because of hotspots so that's why her neck may look a little wierd.

Sorry it's taken so long to post these photos.  Here is Fumble meeting my horses.  He was so funny cause he'd be so brave and touch noses then they'd make a noise and he'd jump back behind one of us.  He fell in love with them after Kali showed him how to make nice with them.  Oh Eiren and Stacy let me know if you want me to send any of the pics I have from the Bash.

It turned out to be an awesome day.  We had a nice picnic with burgers, hotdogs, chips, and ice cream.  Eiren made a nice cake for the puppers which Kali and Fumble loved but Winslow was too lovesick to try ::).  He did love the Dairy Bar ice cream though.  The puppers had a good time but Winslow got a little possessive of Kali which led to a few tiffs with Fumble.  They loved playing in the kiddy pools, sprinkler and hose.  Kali is sooo worn out now that she's passed out on the floor.  It's taken me awhile to sort all the pics as I got a ton of good ones.  I wish more of you guys could have made it.  The boys have gotten soo big and I would like to wish them another Happy 1st Birthday to both!

Ok we need to get this planned before summer ends!  I'm thinking August 5th or 6th or maybe the next weekend for the meetngreet at our house in Preston CT.  We will have ice cream for the puppers from UCONN Dairy Bar.  Let me know if you guys can all make it and which day you'd prefer.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Please Help!!!! Leg Injury and Crate Rest

Sorry this is sooo long.

Ok Lacey has somehow badly injured her right hind leg.  She won't walk on it an when she does it's very gingerly.  We took her to the vet for xrays, lyme test, and for our vet to examine the joint.  Well she doesn't have Lyme disease and the xrays were inconclusive.  Our vet did say she could feel a bit of instability in the side to side direction of her knee meaning she could have torn the two side ligaments which is rare but possible.  She hopes it may be just a bad sprain that crate rest and Rimadyl will help her get over. 

The problem is that we've had her in her crate for the day but crate rest is seeming to make it worse and there's the fact she is a very intelligent high energy dog with nothing to really occupy her.  Any suggestions for entertaining her that isn't fattening like peanut butter kongs as she is the type that looks at food and gains weight?  Also any suggestions on nonsurgical treatment of tendon/ligament injuries as we don't have the money for surgery if it comes to that?  I appreciate any help you guys can give us.

Since Winslow and Fumble are both turning 1 it's time for their first birthday party!  We need to decide on location and date.  My schedule's pretty insane but I'm off from July 1st to the 5th and if that doesn't work I can get a Saturday off.  I was thinking maybe we could have it July 1st at our house which is in Preston, CT.  We can set up several kiddy pools for the pups and do a BBQ.  I also can get some Dairy Bar icecream for the pups and us (which is very yummy).  We might even be able to hit a real pool.  Plus if it gets too hot we have AC and a completely dog proof section of the house.  So opinions everyone!

Most importantly can Rich and Eiren and Stacy make it?

Well Kali's kiddy pool was gross so we decided to clean it. Our mistake was to leave her outside with us.  She took exception to Tim draining her pool and was especially angered when he was cleaning it.  He had to keep spraying her with the hose to get her to leave the pool alone.  She helped Tim fill it by attacking the hose (both stomping and biting) and the spray of water.  She had a lot of fun and ingested a ton of water.

We met Winslow, Rich and Dawn up in Westford Mass for the Newfoundland Club of New England Spring Fling.  We had so much fun meeting all the newfies especially the puppies who were sooooo cute.  Poor Winslow got nipped in the nose by one of the girl newfs was a little more careful after that.  Kali was so good with everyone even the kids.  We may have met one of her brothers.  He's a rescue and shares the same birthday, crooked teeth, muzzle, and crooked legs.  He was a sweetie named Romeo plus they seemed to recognize each other.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / What's Farley doing on the Pedigree Commercial?

I saw the new pedigree commercial and there was a naughty Viszla in it! Has Farley been making TV deals or something...I'll link the commercial to here. The Viszla was in the garbage and all I could think of was Farley with the lid stuck around his head. The quality online sucks but you can catch it on TV.  It's 13 sec in.

Newfoundland Discussions / Talking Back: Any suggestions?

Ok Kali loves to talk back at everyone!!! The whole family is going deaf. She barks to go out, to get fed, to get attention, if she's bored and Lacey won't play, if she's let alone, etc. She's especially bad when we're on the phone. We've tried to throw bottles with hard noodles, Loud Nos, distracting her with a toy,and ignoring her.  The only thing we've found that remotely work is holding her ear(and whisper at her if she's bad).  I know other people have this issue too.  Any other suggestions?
