Newfoundland Pictures / Kali had Fun in the Snow
« on: February 12, 2006, 01:25:32 pm »
Kali had a great time plowing through the three foot drifts.  She didn't want to come back in....I had to tackle her and drag her back into the house.  Lacey also had fun though it was over her head in some places.

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Long Lost Lacey Puppy Pics

She was so cute as a puppy, they were all taken right after we brought her home.
The first is me holding her.  The second is her licking my mom's cup looking like a bear.  And the last is her with my grandmother.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Equine Transporters?: Update
« on: February 07, 2006, 04:38:10 pm »
Anyone know of any good equine transporters.  My cousin is thinking of buying a filly in Iowa and needs to get her here to Southeast CT if she does.  Actually we could probably switch off somewhere in NY or CT.  If anybody knows of any qualified and licensed transporters PM me.  Thanks everyone.

Plus any advice would be good too.....it's our first time using a professional transporter.

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Help! Serious aggression
« on: February 04, 2006, 05:13:59 pm »
Lacey has always had some fear aggression as most aussies do and her and Kali have frequently butted heads over dominance in the past.  But lately she's been really bad even towards us.  My mom was petting her and went to work on getting a mat out and she went to bite.  Now she's most attached to my mom which makes that extremely weird.  Also I came home from school this weekend and she has sometimes been giving me the warning look like she was ready to bite anytime I've gone near her and other times she's happy to see me.  Today she attacked Kali for entering the room and they really went at it.  I saw it coming and tried to pull Kali away but Lacey went for her while I was trying to hold Kali. Plus Kali's very protective of us, which makes it impossible to egt after Lacey. She's on a drug called Proin that's for spay incontinance which can cause excitibility and slight aggression and we've taken down the dose for that reason and although we did she's gotten worse.  We think it may be due to a buildup in her system but she can't go off of it or else she pees everywhere and the other medication is really expensive.  So any advice on what to do or any other possibilities as to what's causing it I'd appreciate.
And right now she's sitting next to me happy as can be even though it was like 15 minutes ago that she went after Kali and they're getting along fine now.

Newfoundland Discussions / Kali got a Gentle Leader: UPDATE
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:04:54 pm »
Yes I've decided on the GL cause I hate using the choke chain plus in public she tends not to care about it so I'm going to try the GL for me.  It also allows you to keep her regular collar on while you're using it which is also a plus.  My brother will probably still use the choke because that's what he went to the trainers with.  So far so good, it's raining today so I haven't brought her outside but she didn't protest at all when I was fitting it to her.  It suprised me because Lacey still fights hers like crazy when we put it on her (but we haven't really worked with her yet as far as using it consistently which I plan to do when I have more time).  But hopefully it'll work so I won't end up on my head again.

Plus we're going to work on Kali coming when called with our horse lunge line tomorrow if the rain stops.  She's been so bad about it.

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Entertaining an aussie?
« on: January 23, 2006, 08:24:25 pm »
Ok everyone w/ an aussie or other high energy dog any suggestions on what to give an aussie for a 'job'.  There aren't any herding oppurtunities nearby and she's weird around people but we have been thinking of trying agility at home only.  I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

Newfoundland Discussions / New Fail safe method for catching a newf
« on: January 21, 2006, 05:37:15 pm »
This is really going to make you laugh.  Ok so I was out playing soccer with Kali and she's reached the stage where she picks it up and plays keepaway.  She refuses to come or let you get near her when it's in her mouth after the first ten minutes.  So I tried having my mom distract her by yelling out the window.  I guess that method only works when no toys are involved.  But onto the actual method, if you remember the post where she nearly killed me by taking off while on a Flexi, she comes to you if your laying on the ground.  So I layed down on the ground and my mom guilt tripped her from the window saying "ohhh Kali you hurt her" and sure enough a minute later a newf with the soccerball is standing over me.  I gave her a ton of praise and she even dropped the ball to give me kisses.  So when all else fails for catching your newf fall down to the ground and they come right to you. ;D

Great Dane Discussions / Great Dane Breeders near New England?
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:46:59 pm »
Kali's trainer is thinking of getting a dane soon and was asking if anyone knew of good breeders in the New England area.  Her current dog, a dobie, has terminal cancer and she doesn't think she can get another dobie right after him.  So I'd appreciate if you guys could recommend a breeder or a place to find a good breeder.
Thanks
Erin

Newfoundland Discussions / Kali is a year old today
« on: January 11, 2006, 03:45:23 pm »
Man does time fly.  She had her own birthday cake and I'll have to get pictures later.  She went and played at the clinic with the two Saints and had a blast playing in mud puddles.  So a bath and a new set of clothing later she's clean and passed out on the kitchen floor.  I insisted on the bath since she was dripping mud and it was my car   :P

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Kali just tried to Kill Me
« on: January 09, 2006, 12:34:41 pm »
I just took Kali out because she asked.  I had her on our retractable leash.  She found a big chunk of wood and I went to take it away from her.  She took off and I tried to keep up but she turned the corner around our landscaping and took off like a rocket.  Unfortunately she weighs more than I do now and she jerked me off my feet and I slammed head first into the frozen ground and got dragged a few feet before I could let go.  So now I have a splitting headache and my hip is burning from being dragged and I smell like grass.  From now on she's going out on a chokechain and short leash....I can't wait till the yard gets fenced in during spring.

Then she came back to me and looked at me like what are you doing on the ground and stood over me.  At least she came back so I couldn't yell.

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Just want to introduce ourselves
« on: December 27, 2005, 11:49:15 am »
Hi everyone,

We're Kali's humans (yes we are relegated to the ones being owned).  I just found this site one day in my search for newfie bibs because we've reached the point where Kali needs to provide a towel.  She's eleven months old and has everyone in her house wrapped around her paw.  She's loving the cold weather but misses her kiddy pool and sprinklers.  She does have some conformation issues in her front legs but the opinion from Tufts is that surgery would make it worse, so we're hoping it'll get better not worse as she finishes growing.  She has the best personality though.  I'll try to find some more recent pictures to post.  She's gotten a lot bigger since the picture we have on now.
