Speaking as a charter member of the Paranoid Pupper Mama Club, you are not being dramatic. It is scary stuff when they have to go under. I was convinced Sadie would die while being spayed!  ;)

My Golden had TPLO surgery last year to repair his ACL and the vet told us that usually they need that surgery on the other side at some point. It's something to do with putting added strain on the healthy leg while the injured one is healing. At any rate, we went through that surgery and it wasn't any fun at all. Bailey was a total trooper but it was awful seeing him like that. He's fine now though, you'd never know he'd ever had a bad leg.

The tricky part for us was keeping our other dog from LOSING HIS MIND while Bailey was recovering. They've been together since they were a few months old. Attached at the hip doesn't even begin to cover it. We ended up using the crate again to keep Bailey quiet and safely away from Rocky while he was healing. It was a little tough for a couple of months keeping them both quiet, but our other dog sensed something wasn't right which made it easier than we had anticipated.

Poor Nana Pookie, hope he's feeling better really soon! :)

Every time I read the name of this thread I think of the movie "Never Been Kissed"  with Drew Barymore.  Her nickname in that movie was Josie Grosey!

LMAO, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Gossy: "Momma, I'm not Gossy Grossey anymore!!!"

Michael,

I'm so glad that Max has you!

I'm really glad I have Max. He's added so much to my life as have Sam and Duncan. I wonder sometimes what would have happened to him if I hadn't found him. I don't want to turn this into a novel but I found Max and Sam by accident while I was looking for a Newfoundland puppy. I had lost my Newfy Molly the previous summer and I really missed having a Newf in my life. None of the few local breeders here in Maine had litters with available puppys so I started checking out Puppyfind on the web. Max was on one of the Newf breeders sites as well as several of his brothers and sisters. It probably sounds silly but I felt some kind of connection when I saw his pictures and I knew I wanted him. I was only looking for one puppy but I was also drawn to Sam. All the brothers and sisters were very cute puppys but Sam was different. He was tiny and almost homely and you could tell that there was something not quite right about him. I don't know why but I had this feeling that if I didn't take him that nobody else would want him. So, I took both of them and I'm very glad I did.
Thank you all for your suggestions. The trip is still 8 weeks away but I'm already getting nervous about it.

Well, I'm really glad you have each other. I think we're totally meant for the furbabies we get. I often wonder what would have happened to my idiot cat Gus if I wasn't such a sucker. Even if someone had adopted him, would anyone else have dealt with two surgeries and aftercare for a cat they found in a dumpster? Maybe, maybe not. I'm glad he doesn't have to find out. Even if he does drive me BONKERS from time to time, I can't imagine life without him.

I have no suggestions for your road trip other than have a good time, think positive and make sure you update us as soon as you can. Sadie, Gus, Maggie and I are all sending positive thoughts your way :)

Oh wow, how excited are YOU?! Congratulation s! Drake will be such a fantastic big brother. As for the teenage years, you can try what my dad did, whenever a boy came to the house, he'd show them his gun. Then he'd pat them on the back so hard he'd almost knock the wind out of them. Worked every time! Of course, now I'm pushing 30 and still single and it's getting rather obnoxious :D

Actually, they've asked Sadie to play Marley. She hasn't accepted the role yet. She's very concerned about having to bleach and shave her fur as well as having to play a boy pupper. But I think that's why she's been such a punk lately. She's a METHOD actor, don't you know  ;)

Heehee...if y'all didn't want to steal her, I'd worry she was dorky looking or something...OK here she is with my 3 1/2 year old neice.

LOL I know what you mean. I remember when I first posted Sadie pics and nobody wanted to kidnap her, we felt very dejected. Maybe BPO knew something I didn't about her.... ;)

Gossy has the cutest little mug EVER! She's just been added to the kidnap list at our house :D
There was a kidnap list for Sadie, it was just so sophisticated and deadly serious that we kept it totally on the down low.  Nobody breathed a word of it on the boards.  Oh and BTW, she is still on it, we figure we don't even have to cover her head with a potato sack, since she conveniantly wears a tube on it already!
 :D
Thanks for all the gushing guys!  It helps to remember how much we wanted her and how cute she is when she is biting/chewing/peeing in the house/yanking Badger's ears......
 :D :) ;)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAH!!!!  ;D

Keep the pictures coming of your cutie! She's adorable!

Just finished reading this last night and bawled my freaking eyes out. I cried so hard that Sadie started whining and burying her head in my neck. I think I cried so hard because I could totally relate. Marley reminded me so much of my Kerry when he was younger. "The dog from h*ll" as his previous family called him. He turned into the best dog I've ever had.

All the research in the world sometimes doesn't mean anything because, as Brandon said, every dog is different. I researched Newfs to death before finally deciding it was the right dog and the right time for me and I have a dog who has very little of the typical Newf personality. She's a total spaz, she's obnoxious, she's LOUD, she's difficult to train, she's stubborn, she's rambunctious, she's not terribly bright except when it comes to evil - in short she's CRAZY! But I love her anyway and I accept her for who and what she is. I do the best I can and hopefully (crossing fingers) it will pay off and she'll wind up a good girl one day. But if she doesn't I'll deal with that too and I'll love her either way. That's the important thing, this family didn't give up on Marley as so many others might have. It's like it says in the book, for the amount of money I've spent on vet bills and destroyed things and training classes, etc., I could have bought a yacht! But a yacht wouldn't be there waiting for me to come home from work wagging her tail like a madwoman :) Sorry this was so long, that book really got to me!

How is Sadie? :)

She's absolutely fine. Didn't bat an eye at the whole thing. I mean she walked into walls and stuff like that all day yesterday, but it's hard to tell whether that was from the surgery or just her normal self. She hits the walls when she clomps through the house more often than not. She's a little more cuddly than normal though. How is Rosie doing?

What a smart boy you have there! That's a little frightening, but I'm glad it worked out! Most of the time I curse Sadie's intelligence, but sometimes it can show up when you least expect it and save the day! Good boy Chester :-*

I think it takes a couple of weeks for the hormones to get completely out of her system....but I don't think it changes their personalities at all.  Mr. Roaming Man Chester does stay home now, since his neuter, but he's still the most energetic Newf I've ever seen!!!

I hope it doesn't change her personality actually, I love her personality (even though I usually want to kill her). I would just like her personality much better if she took it down a few notches ;) Sadie and Chester are a match made in heaven I think, my vet said she's never seen a Newf with so much....I believe the word she used was "pizazz".

We were lucky then, Sophie was conked out for two days.

But like I said she's back to her old self. Found some cat poop last night, rolled in it, got it stuck in her hair and ate what didn't get stuck. YAY! THAT was not fun, especially the smell. WHY do they eat poop???? This is the first time I've seen her do that.

But no, she's still a 90 mile a minute dog :) Give her a couple more months. Bava all of a sudden chilled out. He actually likes being brushed now and will let you do it without trying to bite the brush.

LOL Sadie thinks the litter box is an all you can eat buffet! It's so gross! I have no idea why they do that, but it's absolutely repulsive.
