Needs pawprints!  Inside the heart, with each of your babies' initials or names in each.

Almost sounds like she could be in pain- maybe a vet consult is in order? And/or the thyroid hormones

Breeding Questions & Information / Re: Paying for breeding rights?
« on: November 11, 2006, 10:57:35 pm »
For mastiffs, at least from my breeder, the pups usually all cost the same amount.  Some can be less due to certain things, but nobody is allowed breeding rights until/unless the dog is 2 years old, has passed all OFA testing, hips have passed, AND the dog has been shown to his/her championship.  Then and only then, can they expect the contract to change to allow breeding.

Yikes!  Texas to NY would be a long haul, and rough on a young puppy.  I wonder if there are enough people between here and there to do a transport?

95
Oh well. No harm in trying, right? ;D

Absolutely!  Placing dogs in just the right homes is challenging, but SO rewarding when the right dog finds the right family.

[quote bigdogs@5501] In my small country paper - someone is giving away 3 month old Golden Retriever pups. I would be happy to assist in any way if they are interested- PM if you want thier phone number or need me to call them for additional info. Then of course transport would have to be figured out- but its an option for the family and they are young pups.

Where are you located? I just saw this, and PMed you my email address.  Sorry I didn't check in sooner.  Thanks so much for the help!

I did send the info on Mason to them to check out, and as expected, they want to stick with a golden of golden mix.  The mother has done tons of breed research, and has firmly decided to stick with what she has found is the perfect breed for her family, so I do have to respect that and see what I can do to help.  As for petfinder, we are looking, I just wanted to get the word out to all you wonderful rescuers on here, as I know if one of you find a dog for them, I can count on it being the right one for this family.

They are absolutely sure they want a golden or golden mix.  Nice thoughts though!  I hope the husky babe finds an equally wonderful home!  I will ask, to make sure, and let you know, but I am pretty sure they will want to stick with their original preference.

I have a great home situation available with 2 adults and three teenaged kids who are in desperate need of a dog/puppy to love.  They recently helped me out with a stray golden that I could not hold until its owners claimed it, due to my own dogs' needs.  In one week, they had trained this pup and taught him to play fetch and frisbee, and he got so much loving and exercise that when his owner claimed him, he could not believe all the changes in his dog.  They are ALL heartbroken, and have let me know they are eagerly awaiting a rescue or pup/dog in need.  They have much experience with dogs over the years, and just had to have their 14 year old black shepherd PTS due to advanced arthritis.
This family lives in Central NY, and I would approve them as a  home if one of my own babies needed to be rehomed.

Just remember, there are definite advantages to dumb dogs ;) That's why I keep at least one Lab around. It is nice to know that you are smarter than at least one of your dogs.

Anyone who needs to borrow one of the aforementioned dumb dogs is welcome to borrow my Frankie- she is definitely dumber than a box of rocks! And she's not even a lab!

All of my dogs had always been rescues.  Several years ago, my last one had passed, and I was so broken hearted, I decided not to get another dog.  So, several years went by, and I finally felt ready for a dog, and did the research, etc. to see what breed fit our needs, and set out looking for rescues.  Unfortunately, there were no rescue mastiffs available in my area.  We would have had to travel several hundred miles, pay an adoption fee of $800 plus, and still have to wait til one came along that the rescue felt fit our needs.  So I did the next best thing... I started researching breeders who were involved in rescue.  I found one not far from us, and sent off an email asking for a rescue or special needs dog, and she eventually decided we were just what she was looking for to raise and love one of her 'breeder contract' girls.  We brought home Imani in December of 04.  After having her for almost a year, she emailed asking me to take a nine week old female on a breeder contract as well.  Since then, more rescue mastiffs have shown up in our area and in areas we were willing to drive to, and we are involved in breed rescue.  We adopted Jesse, and fostered Maggie, who was placed this past August.  This breeder's standard puppy price is $2500, of course all are tested and shown to championships before being considered for breeding.  Since then, Frankie has been rejected from the breeding program and has been spayed.

Neapolitan Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Re: Skin Problems - Neo

When Jesse came to us, he was severely abused, starved, and beaten.  His skin was awful! Flaky, losing hair, nasty smelling (like dead fish on a beach, is what he smelled like to me)

Our Neo rescue boy, Jesse, has done amazingly well since we put him on a high-end food, and started supplementing him with fish oil caps, garlic caps, vitamin C and Glucosamine/chondroitin supplements.  And adding apple cider vinegar to his water.  Even his vet was shocked- she says neos aren't supposed to have puppy soft fur and great skin, but Jesse does.  Might be worth a try. IF you need more info, let me know and I will give you his dosages.  By the way, we do not use any flea preventatives and he has had no fleas since he got here in May.

Here's Imani's

It seems to be a giant breed trait- they act like they are trying to sit in your lap for petting, and don't realize how big they are.  Mine will also back up to furniture and sit on it like a human sometimes.

Lollipop Farm actually DOES get mastiffs in sometimes.  I was supposed to go evaluate two for rescue last spring, but they got adopted really fast.  Congrats!  I am glad they finally have someone to take pics for them!
