General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Canine Good Citizen
« on: April 09, 2006, 10:51:17 am »
Cirra passed her Canine Good Citzen Test yesterday.  We are very proud of her and still can not believe it.  At sixteen months Cirra is quite a character and has been the class clown.  The goal is to for her to pass her Therapy Dog International Test in the Fall.  She does have great potential as a therapy dog since she is such as "smile machine".

We live on the coast of Maine where fencing does not hold up well because of frost heaves.  We installed 900 feet of the Friendly Fence and are very pleased with it.  We installed the fence before we got our puppy so she knows her space and we do not leave her outside when we are not home.  We followed the directions and used the taller fence and heavy duty posts when needed between trees.  It was quite a project however nothing compared to some other types of fencing.  Depending on your situation it may be an option for you.

Just wonderimg if any one has had any success with non toxic tick preventatives.  We don't have a problem with fleas although do have a lot of ticks in Downeast Maine. We are aware of many herbal oils and diet supplements - are they effective?  Any credible research available?  Any suggestions???

We were not able to get a picture of Cirra for the March Photo Contest in time.  We tried two weekends ago and then again this past Saturday and just could not do it.  The plan involved balloons with a nice ocean background.  Well...  We will spare you the many details however we had winds of forty mph, popping balloons, teenagers who refused to move out of our picture, etc, etc, etc.  We did take a few pictures inside with the remaining balloons.  We are planning our photo for April which does not involve any Easter balloons on the side of a cliff.  Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

:)
Thank you so much everyone for voting for our beloved girl Cirra this Valentine's day! We're glad you loved her pic as much as we do.  Cirra's such a happy girl! Congratulation s to everyone on their great girls and guys!

Breed- Great Pyrenees

Birthday- 12-10-2004, currently 14 months

Cirra just loves flowers, so what a perfect fit!

Best traits- extremely friendly and makes people smile, Worst traits-practitioner of "passive resistance"

Best liked food-meat of all kinds, best liked treats-frozen buffalo bones and peanut butter, least liked food- none yet

Favorite toy-large balls and (momentarily) stuffed toys

Favorite Hangout is on her fleece bed or the coolest spot

Best dog friend is her "Adie" a liver & white Springer Spaniel, whom she loves to play chase endlessly in the yard or wrestle carefully in the living room-she's just the best!

Favorite memory is the "love at first sight" with the "green girl" puppy (a.k.a. Cirra) climbing awkwardly over the board to the puppy room at the breeder's house.
