And then of course this morning....he's frigging rallied!  He ate what was left of yesterday's dog food supper, scarfed down another bowl of chicken and rice, went outside to pee (still hasn't had a bm since yesterday afternoon though) and came upstairs in the computer room to hang out with me.  My husband decided to go into work, and I'm off today to hang out with Barkley.

Darn this is so hard! Maybe he's feeling better because he knows he's going to be out of pain soon ... I don't know.  But now that he's rallied, I almost feel like it's not right to follow through with making the appointment for this evening.

I can so relate to what you are going through. 3 years ago to almost the day, we were going through this with a 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. We were told he only had a week or so to live. After having a bad day, we had made an appointment for that evening. Once we got to the vet he perked up, grabbed his leash and started tugging me back to the door. There was no way i could go through with it that evening and went back home with him. The next day he was even worse so we made the appointmnet again. He didn't make it to his appointment time and passed away at home. To this day i'm not sure if i did the right thing by bringing him back home, but at the time i felt that is what he wanted me to do.
I know how hard this must be for you and your family right now and wish there was something I could do or say to make it better. You and Barkley are in our thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear that he is getting worse. You have done all you can for him and you should feel very good about that.
Hugs to him, we will be thinking of you.

Coopers breeder also suggested on waiting as long as possible to have him neutered, but to do so by the age of 2 as in his case he had one undescended testicle. My vet also agreed with this. Supposedly waiting longer then this increases the risk of cancer in his situation.
We had him neutered a few weeks ago just after he turned one. So far no change in his personality.

Leonbergers are wonderful dogs with children. As for protection, I feel VERY confident that no intruder would make it into my house with the 2 I have. Although they are very friendly, they always warn when they hear someone and their size, appearance and bark would send anyone running.
Bernese are also great with kids and mine have also been proctective, but they don't have the same "scare" factor to an intruder that the Leonbergers have.
Mine have not had much exposure to livestock, but I'm sure if this is something they are exposed to as young pups they will have no problem interacting.
Good Luck with your search...

One of my dogs gets awful mats in the feathering on her hind legs. She also hates to be brushed, so it makes it even worse. I recently bought Mane n' Tale detangler and it really worked wonders. It is easy to use as it is in a spray bottle, and after spraying on it was easy to get the brush through.
Good Luck!

Welcome! I just love the picture of the group and am amazed you could get them all to sit still while the picture was being taken. I have a hard enough time with 3 :)

I'm guessing she didn't get to sleep on your nice white linen covered bed last night ;)

Lovely spot your moving to! I love the coast of Maine. I have been looking into fencing options as well for a large parcel of land and had come across this website. I do not have experience with the product but thought it looked interesting. Fencing in the entire property would still be very expensive, but if only doing a certain portion may be a suitable product.

Good Luck on your move.

I can't comment on Wellness as i have not used it but i can tell you about our experience with Canidae. We recently switched to Canidae for all our dogs and all three are doing great on it. 2 of the 3 had always experienced soft stools and now that problem is gone. They all love the taste of it as well.

Great to hear that he had a good vet visit and that he has gained some weight.
He sounds like such a great dog - and how sweet that he was worried about his "mess".

Welcome. My name is Jocelyne and I'm also relatively new here. I live in Eastern Canada with my husband and 3 dogs Bart the Bernese and Jessie and Cooper the Leonbergers. I'm sure you will enjoy the site, there certainly seems to be a wealth of knowledge amongst the group.

She is a very pretty girl! How old is she now? My female Leo also loves the bed - luckily for us we have upgraded to a king size bed so we can fit as well.
