Is anyone on the group attending the show this year? It is being held in Fredericton, NB (my hometown)just a few minutes away from where I live. Looking forward to seeing all the beautiful dogs.

So sorry to hear about Barkley. I have also been through this with a Bernese who was only 5 years old. He was the picture of health until one day when he wouldn't eat or play. After a week of many test at our local vet, they decided it was best for us to go to the vet Clinic in PEI. He was diagnosed with cancer and they felt it was beyond treatment. He passed away at home a few days after we returned from the island. It was a very quick progression for him - it was only 2 weeks after he showed any signs of not being well. Enjoy every minute you have with him and give him lots of hugs and kisses.
I saw another post of yours that mentioned you were from Dartmouth - nice to see another Martimer join!

Newfoundland Pictures / Re: Angus at the dogpark.

I'm on the East Coast too! St. John's Newfoundland. The snow here is just starting to melt and not over the fence of the dog park anymore. We have had the snowy winter (not long though this year) typical of the east coast. Bye the way I love your avatar!!! :D

I'm in Fredericton, NB. We were over in Nefoundland a few summers ago and absolutley loved it. We had 2 Bernese Mountain dogs with us on that trip, and we were surprised as to how many other tourist thought they were Newf's. Alot of them were disappointed that they hadn't seen a Newf on their trip and were expecting that the island would be full of them :) The only one I saw while there was Bosun the mascot on the Scademia - he was pretty cool. Thanks for the comments on my avatar...it's amazing how you can get them to stay still for a little piece of kibble!

Great pictures....Wh ere do you live? I'm amazed to see all that fresh snow. I live on the East Coast of Canada and our winters are usually very snowy and long. This year we barely had a snow fall and now the ground is thawed and there isn't a spec of snow to be seen. The dogs really missed playing in the snow, they would be jealous if i showed them the fun Angus is having :)

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Poll: Does your dog eat oranges?

The 2 leonbergers love oranges, the bernese tries a piece and puts on the worst sour face but still eats it.

Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Gentle Leaders
« on: February 26, 2006, 12:36:06 pm »
I use a gentle leader to control his head AND a martingale collar around his neck with a leash. This is so if he were to lunge, the collar around his neck would catch him instead of having his head pulled to the side too quickly by the GL.

What a great idea - I will have to give that a try. When I walk the 3 of mine at once, it is very hard to control them when they encounter a distration. I have tried all collar types (halti, GL, prong, choke) and I find the best results with the GL, but the stories scare me, so I rarely use it. I think i will give your method a try.
