Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Macy - Rottweiler mix in Iowa needs a home!
« on: November 25, 2006, 06:37:37 am »
This beautiful rottweiler mix is up for adoption. She was rescued from a bad and neglectful situation and is now at my house looking for a new home! She was rescued on Thanksgiving so I named her Macy, after the Macy's Parade.

She looks into my eyes with her sweet brown eyes and I just melt! She is very trusting despite the crappy life on a chain that she has lived. She gets along great with kids, other dogs, and so far seems ok around my cats. She loves people a lot & is a big sweetie. She has never known what it is like to live in a nice warm house full of a family who loves her. She has spent her life tied up on a chain. Sometimes her owners would feed her, many times they would forget. There were many times she would get her chain wrapped around things and was unable to reach her dog house or food or water. Kids would ride down the alley and throw things at her and tease her. Despite that, she loves children! She's never had a soft bed. Her nights were spent sleeping on a cold slab of cement under her dog house (if she could reach the house, that is). Please give this girl the wonderful forever home she deserves!

She is a very well behaved dog and is obsessed with the couch - it's all so new to her! She is about 3 years old, as her owners got her when she was a puppy and had been chained since then.

If you are interested in adopting her, please email me - - for an adoption application.

I believe she is already spayed but she's going to the vet Monday afternoon to have that confirmed. She will also get heartworm tested and brought up to date on her vaccinations.

She is located near Fort Dodge, IA. Transport can probably be arranged if needed!

Saint Bernard Pictures / Barney's little buddy

I just loved this picture I took of Barney and his little buddy Weebles. I posted about Weebles awhile back...he has cerebellar hypoplasia and has trouble walking because he is so wobbly. He is doing great good as can be expected and he is a happy guy. He is getting a wheel chair when he is full grown and I just ordered him a stroller to push him around now when I take him places since he is starting to get bigger and harder to carry.

Barney is the only dog that will actually lie down and play with Weebles on the ground/floor and Weebles loves that! Barney is now 8 1/2 months old.

Here are some recent pictures of Barney. He will be 8 months old on September 30th.

Penny mentioned that Teddy is all legs at this age...I've noticed that Barney is pretty leggy too. :)

Hey everyone! I thought I would pass along some really GREAT Saints that are for adoption in case anyone is interested or knows of someone interested! They are in Iowa. Katie and Abby are Barney's littermates so I can vouch for their awesome dispositions!

This guy is my fave! I so wish I had room for another dog.  ;D

Mixed Breed Discussion / New foster pup - Weebles
« on: August 26, 2006, 04:57:58 pm »
I just got back from volunteering at the shelter today and I brought home a very special puppy with me!

It's kind of a long story so I'll try to make it as brief as possible...bas ically there is a man who is a very bad pet owner. He lets his mixed breed dogs mate over and over and they live outside under his junky porch. No heartworm preventatives, never been vaccinated, etc. Today he brought in the current litter which was sired by the dams son.

The puppies appear to have CH (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) and wobble all over the place. That's just my diagnosis since they haven't been to a vet yet. I was wondering if the inbreeding could have had something to do with it?

Anyway, one of the pups is really wobbly and the poor little fellow walks like he's heart just melted when I saw him. He is the cutest darn thing ever and he is really tiny compared to his littermates. They wouldn't let him eat and he has difficulties holding still enough to eat and drink. So I took him home for the weekend to give him extra TLC and to make sure he gets enough food and water since he is pretty emaciated. He'll be going to the vet with the rest of his littermates on Monday.

His mom is a collie/sheperd mix and I guess so is his dad since he is also the mom's son. The dad is black and fluffy like this little guy and the rest of the littermates look more like collie/shep mixes.

Here are some pictures of Weebles. It was hard to get them since he moves so much...this was as best as I could get.

Mixed Breed Pictures / Any guesses on this mixed breed?

I'm attaching pictures of a dog named Cosmo. He came in as a 4 month old puppy at the shelter when I used to work there. He stayed there for over a year and finally in 2004 he was adopted. This April, I found him wandering the countryside and couldn't find his owners. So I brought him home and he's been with us ever since. I didn't have the heart to take him back to the shelter after he had lived in a cage for over a year. :( The vet said she was concerned about his weight so we decided to foster him while he fattened up but now that he is at a healthy weight we really haven't really tried all that hard to find him a home.  :D

Anyway, I've always wondered what kind of mix he is. He talks and woo's like a husky or akita. He's really tall, I'd measure him but one of the dogs chewed the tape measure last night after I had tried to measure my Saint's height.  ::)

Any guesses?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / New Saint Mom!

I just got my first Saint Bernard puppy in April and I am completely in love with this breed! His name is Barnabas but we call him Barney and he just keeps getting cuter every day.  :-* When I brought him home I didn't think it was possible for him to get any cuter! haha

He is the best behaved puppy I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I don't know if that is normal for the breed or if I just lucked out!

He is 4 1/2 months old and is getting so big. I noticed drool for the first time the other day and I was so excited! LOL
