I entered a picture in the constest. Personally I thought it was precious.  ;D These puppies were brought into the humane society and they were so scared. I thought it was so sweet how Angel (the black & rust puppy) comforted her sister, Beth.

But the ones that did win were deserving of their win. It just woulda been great if mine would have been deserving too!  :D

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: question about AKC registration...

I thought about registering Barney but I won't be competing and I'd rather not give them my money. But if I had registered him I would use "My Name's Not Beethoven".

AWWWW!!!! So cute! Pimp? ???

I did NOT name that poor dog! It does not fit him at all. I hate yelling "Come here Pimp!" so I've been calling him Skippy.  ;D

He belongs to a friend and we were supposed to be doggy sitting until he found a place to live but he's been here like 6 months now..I think he's here to stay, which is why I am calling him Skippy.  ::)

What a cute puppy! How old is he?

If it won't come of in the bath, I'd probably just put a new collar over the top..maybe a different brand that won't bleed on him! lol

We have a huge house and an acreage but my saint doesn't need all the room. He prefers to lounge out in the yard, chewing toys or bones and when he is in the house he is either on the bed, the couch, or his own bed. He isn't very active, he doesn't run and play in the house at all. He'll sometimes wrestle with the other dogs but he's always on the bottom, so I don't have to worry about a big clumsy saint ramming into things. We have several different breeds (mixed and purebred) and Saints are THE perfect breed for us. We couldn't have asked for a better dog!!

He's only 6 months old so looking back I can't think of anything I had wished I had known. I hope we won't have trouble with hips, I guess time will tell with that. We got him from a breeder who was retiring from breeding and was going to send him and his littermates to rescue. This breeder didn't do any testing or anything on the hips and we knew when we got him what we might be getting into.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: When to neuter?
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:39:22 pm »
I guess I'm the odd one here. :) I got Barney neutered when he was 4 1/2 months old. I am so involved in rescue and work for a spay & neuter clinic that I think I have become obsessed with spay/neuter. Also working at the clinic I have learned enough about juvenile spay/neuter that I had no qualms about getting him done at 4 1/2 months. I did wonder afterwards if maybe he won't grow as big but there was no way I was going to let him stay unaltered for a whole year just to have a bigger dog. The last thing I want is a big huge Saint marking in the house or displaying other unwanted male behaviors! I also didn't want to take the chance that he might wander off our property in search of a female in heat.
