About 2 weeks ago I noticed my 2 year old Saints (Decker) back legs were shedding a bit. I figured no big deal and brushed him. Well 2 weeks later most of the fur is gone off his back end, as well as his tail. Hes got a thin layer of fur on his back legs...but its not much. I can feel his skin when I pet him.  I'm not sure what is wrong with him. Today he is not drinking (unless I force him) and he wouldn't take treats (not not not normal)  He has an appointment at the vet tomorrow.

Here is a pic so you can see what I mean...notice all the dog hair on the floor, I can vacuum every day but by the next morning it looks like I didn't touch it in 3 weeks.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Lock Jaw in Dogs.
« on: December 06, 2008, 03:36:50 pm »
My Saint, Decker, has a problem with his mouth. He can not open his mouth more than 1 1/2 inches. It just will not open. When he tries to yawn he just turns his head down and to the side and chatters his mouth. I took him today for x-rays and they all look normal. Hes got no lumps or infections anywhere. The vet even tried prying his jaw open while he was asleep and it would not go more than an inch and a half. Has anyone ever had this? He is not chewing his food at all, just swallowing it whole. The trip to the vet today cost 350 bucks and I am no closer to having an answer for him at all.

Thanks!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / really upset...hygroma
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:41:06 pm »
hey guys,

well my saint, decker, who is 1 has developed a hygroma on his front left elbow. its been a few months now....he goes from being fine to limping and not playing for a few days to being fine again. i took him to our regular vet and he said he had no idea what it was (that didnt stop him from charging us 300 bucks for xrays and meds tho). i am on vacation right now in the city and thought id take decker in to a vet here to see if he could help us. well the vet drained the hygroma and bandaged it up. the bandaged has slipped down and it is no longer covering the shaved area...and i can already see that it is swelling again.

anyone else going through hygromas? i am so worried that i have caused him more pain by letting the doctor drain it. he is resting now...hs got a cone on so he wont chew. i am just so scared that he wont recover right or that it will come back.....ahhhh, dogs, so stressfull!! aslo, whats your opinion on doglegz? i just saw the site today....and wondering if it would be worth it

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Drywall Digger!!
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:16:17 pm »
Decker is digging holes...IN MY DRYWALL >:(

Anyone else's dog do this?! I cant figure out why he does this. He gets lots of exercise, has tonnes of toys to play with but he still insists in digging in the walls. There are 3 big holes and my entire hallway is pretty much gone. I dont know what to do, but my new house is looking pretty dumpy now.... :'(

Literally.

Decker has eaten/chewed/pawed/clawed 3 holes in the walls of our new house. Anyone ever had a dog do this?! I dont know what to do about it?! Him and Mack get run of the house when I am away....and I know for a fact it is Decker doing it because I checked his mouth and Macks mouth and Decker had drywall in his. My husband comes home on the 2nd and he is going to flip. I'm afraid he will tell me I have to get rid of Decker. Does anyone have any tips on dealing with this? I think he gets seperation anxiety but  I dont know what to do because I cant be home 24/7.....Heres some pics of 2 of the 3 holes (the third one is about twice the size of the one on the green wall....its in my bootroom and the light burnt out in there so i cant take a pic)

Anything Non-Dog Related / Very Very sore :(
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:14:49 pm »
Hi everyone,
I just want to start out by saying thanks to everyone for the awesome Christmas cards!!! I love them all!! And for those of you who are wondering where mine are....they are coming i swear!!

I had an attack of the gall bladder (i didn't even know there were such things) and had to have emergency surgery to remove the whole thing! Today I am able to get up and about, and I have put all the stamps on the cards and they will be mailed tomorrow!!

Good grief, something always happens around this time...last year i broke my arm and now this. Yikes, if it weren't for bad luck id have no luck at all.

Take care guys

Medical Conditions & Diseases / My boys are sick :(
« on: November 27, 2007, 11:01:24 pm »
Both of my dogs are sick....how sick? I dunno cause no one seems to want to friggen help me >:(

It started with them itching...and now they are both itching so bad that they can't do anything except sit there and chew on their backs or feet. You cant even touch them or it sends them into a crazy scratch fest. I have taken both of them to the vet...where I got "Just switch the food" (which I did, and i think it made it worse) or "take these pills" (which they did and it helped, temporarily) And now Mack has started chewing QUARTER sized holes in his feet!!

The vet says they need a skin scrape and then he can make a vaccination for them....for 1000$ bucks. So I call the dog insurance that I have been paying 100 BUCKS A MONTH FOR and they wont cover it. Because the symptoms are not conclusive to suggest an allergy. Um, Im sorry...chewin g backs and feet isnt an allergy symptom.

I am so frustrated right now, I have no idea what to do, what to try. I feel like bursting into tears right now, my dogs are suffering so much and theres nothing i can do to help either of them. Its not that we can't afford the 1000 dollars, but it will take a few weeks to put aside and until then my dogs mught eat themselves beyond saving  :'( :'( :'(

Food Discussion & Information / Poor Mack :(
« on: November 11, 2007, 07:08:07 pm »
Well it seems Mack has developed an allergy to his food :( (Innova Large Breed Puppy) which really sucks!! He has chewed holes in his back...so i had his back partially shaved (bout the middle of the back right to the base of his tail) It was just getting to be a big bloody scabby dirty greasy flaky mess...ewww! So my beautiful boy has no fur there anymore:( The vet said he should eat this "medi-cal duck and potato food" I was reluctant to buy it so i only bought a teeny little bag to tide us over till i could find something better.

The vet thinks its chicken he is allergic to, so i had to find a food with no chicken, and still healthy. Has anyone ever heard of Go!Natural food? I bought him the Salmon and Oatmeal formula. I want to know if this is ok for a big paw? I would eventaully like Mack and Decker to both eat the same food, but I just (seriously, the day before we went to the vet) spent 300 bucks on Innova, so Id like Decker to finish that off first lol.

Mack seems to be doing ok on the food, he had a bit of the squirts this evening, but that is normal as he has a very finicky tummy. I quit my job tonight because I felt so bad about leaving my boy sick at home (omg what WONT we do for our dogs :D)

So any opinions on the GO!Natural food? Good for a big paw or no?

Today I went to see my grandpa (whos in the hospital) and I thought I would bring Decker along as well. I was planning on going up, getting grandpa, and bringing him outside to see Decker....but the nurses at the hospital let me bring Decker right in there!!! It was so awesome!! After he visited with my grandpa for a while....every one wanted to visit him!! So we went from room to room offering puppy lovin! It was so great to see all the peoples faces light up when Decker came into the room. Decker was so good too, he would go and sit by each persons bed and let them pet him and fuss over him...he loved all the attention. It was so great to be able to bring a little happiness to sick peoples lives!!

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Im at my breaking point
« on: August 16, 2007, 01:58:09 am »
With Mack's digging. I have tried simply everything, but he just contines to dig and dig and DIIIIIG. I have tried filling the holes with poop, and water, a ballon, a chair, hot sauce, burying mack, spanking mack, yelling at mack. If i cover in one of his holes or do something to it, he just starts digging again in a new place. My neew backyard looks like a war zone. I dont know what to do :'( I am very down on Mack right now :'(

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Why Doesnt He Ask?
« on: August 06, 2007, 10:24:05 am »
SO the house training is not going good for us :( Decker had 10 accidents (pee) in the house today!! He waits until my back is turned for one second and then pees on the floor, or he runs to the door and pees beside it. No asking, no warning....not even sniffing at the ground and going in circles....jus t bam! Pee!!  How do I get him to "ask" to go outside? Mack comes and gives me a little cry and a nudge when he wants to go out...but I didnt teach him that, he just does it (smart dog haha). I take Decker out often...he will be outside for hours...then come inside and pee the first chance he gets  >:(

Who ever said puppies were all fun and games?! :'(

Medical Conditions & Diseases / I dont know what to do :(
« on: August 03, 2007, 12:31:26 am »
Our new puppy Decker has the...squirts. I thought it was just because we switched his food all at once. So this goes on for a few days and his poop is not getting and solider. In fact its not solid at all, its shooting out the back of him :(  Then I notice the other dog, Mack, is having shooting squirts too!! I cant get them to the vet till tomorrow. Ive been feeding them pedialyte and keopatic(sorry if that spelled wrong) and the vet told me not to feed them anything but bland food, so I cooked up some scrambled eggs (first time in my 22 years ive cooked eggs, i was proud!!) and rice. Is there anything else I should be doing to help them out? Im worried sick that they have caught something, or that Decker brought something with him when he came(he came on a plane) They are both eating and drinking well.... :( :( :(

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / ah the age old question
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:47:58 pm »
My other neighbour hold me to put their poop in the hole...does that really work?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It worked fantastic for Balu lol  but he was a sap boy...no poo was ever gonna touch his precious feet or any toy, ball, frisbie or nuthin...not even his own poo!  He was like ballerina boy if I didn't pick up in the yard very often...tiptoe ing all over the yard...so gawd forbid...he didn't get close to it! LOL  ::)  Takes a while and a few holes filled for them to think...hmmm what the??? how did "that" happen again! LOL He never dug in the same spot, and got tired of new spots getting "ruined".  I did always allow him his one shallow "cooling" hole that he would lay in though, usually in the border or flower bed ;)

Rucky isn't much of a digger so I haven't tried it on him ;)
