Yeah, I thought of that too....we live in a small town and the services are very limited....unf ortunately the highways here rarely get plowed and its pretty much cut off from the rest of the world till may....Otherwi se I would have them at a different vet in a heartbeat.

Also...we just bought a new pickup (we had a SUV before) and Mack and Decker are right mad about not being able to ride in the cab...lol so we are saving up to buy a canopy for it....silly pups.

OMG!

I just had a brain storm!!!

My cousins dog (yellow lab, bout 2 yrs old) has ALL the same symptoms!! The itching, and for sure ther chewing (poor thing is covered in holes. I had Decker to play there about 2-3 weeks ago!! I bet he brought whatever the Lab has home with him!! Eureka!! I never thought anything of it, cause my cousin said that her vet said it was allergies (her vet is the crook one...grrrr) Now I feel bad for bringing Decker over there to play :(

Thank you again guys.
I called and the soonest I can get them in is Saturday at 4. I would bring them to another vet but there are only 3 here, one isn't accepting new patients and the other one is a outright crook (he also once told me to put down Mack and cut my loses)

So I have to try and make them comfy till then. I sprayed them both with bitter spray on the bare spots so hopefully that gives them a break on the chewing.

Thank you everyone.

Does anyone know what I can do for them in the meantime to make them more comfortable till they go for the test? Its not till next week and I hate them itching all the time :( Does Benadryl work? even if its mange/mites....and the more research i am doing its sounding more and more like mange/mites.

Decker does it too...although he has outgrown the worst of it.

I know what you mean...it sounds like hes going to hork (is that a word) himself inside out!!!

What I found is you pinch the sides of their nose, so it forces them to take a breath through the mouth and it will usually stop it.

Thanks guys!!!

I have taken away EVERYTHING!! I dont clean with any products at all, I bought a steam cleaner and only clean everything with that. Well except my clothes, which i wash in the washer, with hot water (Im allergic to laundry soaps)I took away their beds, treats, bones, toys...they are living a real simple life now haha!!

I called my breeder and she says what it sounds like to her is mites. So she suggested I take one dog in to be scraped for mites, and if hes got it, the other one has it. I just dont know what to do.

I will pick up some Benadryl ASAP, and at least make them comfy,

Medical Conditions & Diseases / My boys are sick :(

Both of my dogs are sick....how sick? I dunno cause no one seems to want to friggen help me >:(

It started with them itching...and now they are both itching so bad that they can't do anything except sit there and chew on their backs or feet. You cant even touch them or it sends them into a crazy scratch fest. I have taken both of them to the vet...where I got "Just switch the food" (which I did, and i think it made it worse) or "take these pills" (which they did and it helped, temporarily) And now Mack has started chewing QUARTER sized holes in his feet!!

The vet says they need a skin scrape and then he can make a vaccination for them....for 1000$ bucks. So I call the dog insurance that I have been paying 100 BUCKS A MONTH FOR and they wont cover it. Because the symptoms are not conclusive to suggest an allergy. Um, Im sorry...chewin g backs and feet isnt an allergy symptom.

I am so frustrated right now, I have no idea what to do, what to try. I feel like bursting into tears right now, my dogs are suffering so much and theres nothing i can do to help either of them. Its not that we can't afford the 1000 dollars, but it will take a few weeks to put aside and until then my dogs mught eat themselves beyond saving  :'( :'( :'(

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Poor Mack :(
« on: November 12, 2007, 12:22:55 pm »
Thanks everyone :)

Theres not too much for fleas in our area, but since I do take my dogs to warmer climates ocasionally, they are both on flea prevention.... Mack was licking at the pads of his feet as well but most of his efforts were concentrated on chewing the crap out of hs back :(

Food is a hard thing....I live in a small fairly isolated town and its hard for me to find good food (I had to drive 3 hours round trip to get Innova) and with winter coming its not a trip I am wanting to make often (roads are often closed in the winter here) I really really love Innova, but I guess we will have to find something else. He seems to like this salmon food but we will see, he is having some booty blow-out from it...which is normal for his tummy....

Food Discussion & Information / Poor Mack :(
« on: November 11, 2007, 07:08:07 pm »
Well it seems Mack has developed an allergy to his food :( (Innova Large Breed Puppy) which really sucks!! He has chewed holes in his back...so i had his back partially shaved (bout the middle of the back right to the base of his tail) It was just getting to be a big bloody scabby dirty greasy flaky mess...ewww! So my beautiful boy has no fur there anymore:( The vet said he should eat this "medi-cal duck and potato food" I was reluctant to buy it so i only bought a teeny little bag to tide us over till i could find something better.

The vet thinks its chicken he is allergic to, so i had to find a food with no chicken, and still healthy. Has anyone ever heard of Go!Natural food? I bought him the Salmon and Oatmeal formula. I want to know if this is ok for a big paw? I would eventaully like Mack and Decker to both eat the same food, but I just (seriously, the day before we went to the vet) spent 300 bucks on Innova, so Id like Decker to finish that off first lol.

Mack seems to be doing ok on the food, he had a bit of the squirts this evening, but that is normal as he has a very finicky tummy. I quit my job tonight because I felt so bad about leaving my boy sick at home (omg what WONT we do for our dogs :D)

So any opinions on the GO!Natural food? Good for a big paw or no?

If my dogs would take a dump in the toilet, Id faint from happiness.

Then we would FINALLY have justification for that 2nd bathroom we have that no one ever uses (seriously, I've lived in this house for 6 months and I have never used the other bathroom :D)

Today I went to see my grandpa (whos in the hospital) and I thought I would bring Decker along as well. I was planning on going up, getting grandpa, and bringing him outside to see Decker....but the nurses at the hospital let me bring Decker right in there!!! It was so awesome!! After he visited with my grandpa for a while....every one wanted to visit him!! So we went from room to room offering puppy lovin! It was so great to see all the peoples faces light up when Decker came into the room. Decker was so good too, he would go and sit by each persons bed and let them pet him and fuss over him...he loved all the attention. It was so great to be able to bring a little happiness to sick peoples lives!!
