You three are the best! Bear loves his Cape Cod inspired bib and it fits perfectly. The minute I put it on him he was like, "Oh mom! Where is the good food? I'm hungry!"  ;D Thanks again!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / BPO Rules Reminder
« on: October 07, 2006, 10:29:42 am »
Hi Everyone! I just thought that it was time to send out a little reminder to follow some specific rules.

BPO is a place where friends and strangers come together to share stories, ask questions, seek commradre, and receive support when they need it most. Regardless of where you come from, we all have one thing in common- the love for our dogs. It is with this love that this site has been able to grow and prosper, bringing so many wonderful people together.

With that being said, here are a few rules I'd like to highlight:
*Links to stores/websites that sell a product that may be of use to others. Without collaboration from others how would we know what restaurants are the best in town?

*Names of medicines, food, good stores, etc. that many be of use to others. Personally, everything I use for our doggy-dog has been recommended from others, so why not share those great things with others?

 *Harassing anyone in any way.

We understand that many of us here are members of other boards, like Big Dogs Porch , and we think that is great! It is important to seek out information to enable yourself to be the best dog parent out there. Mentioning something that might be of use to others is awesome, but you should be cautioned that continually repeating something over and over again for personal gain on the general forum, via pm or
through chat is unacceptable behavior. If someone is truly interested, then after they read the information, they'll seek the place/thing out on their own.

Thanks for listening and for respecting the personalities and privacy of each and every member on this board. Happy posting!

Happy 31st to the man behind BPO!

After working hard, or not very in my case, the beautiful Kiah and handsome Bear (yes I'm biased) are the winners of this month's contest. Congratulation s to you Kiah, as you looked so  dignified and ready to work.

And to everyone who entered, thanks again for participating because without you BPO Contests wouldn't exist.

I forgot to ever put these pics on the 'puter.   ::) Anyways, here are a few pics of Bear on the beach in Malibu just chillin' and then some with him and Michael. It is rare that I am behind the camera, so I thought I'd share some of my 2 favorite boys!

Newfoundland Discussions / Happy 4th Birthday to my big ol' Bear!
« on: September 19, 2006, 02:41:02 am »
I haven't been on much in the last few weeks cuz things have been so hectic but I thought I'd let you know that my baby Bear cub is a whopping 4 years old today! I can't believe how quickly time goes by. He's not doing much in the way of celebrating today (extra loving, a cake and a few toys) but this weekend he'll be spoiled at his favorite hot spot- the dog beach.  ;D

Food Discussion & Information / Greenies are recalled!
« on: September 18, 2006, 02:52:12 pm »
From Michael's Blog:

I just received an email from a wholesaler this morning and this is the report:

There has been a recall of the Greenies Dental products. These items are no longer available for ordering through our wholesale site. At this time we don’t have any information as to when they will be available again, but we will let you know. This only affects the hard chewable Greenies and the Greenies Bits which are listed below, not the pill pockets or the treats.

GE-00319 4/ct Jumbo Size Greenies
GE-00317 8/ct Large Size Greenies
GE-00314 14/ct Regular Size Greenies
GE-00311 24/ct Petite Size Greenies
GE-01567 48/ct Teenie Size Greenies
GE-08351 10oz Greenies Lil’ Bits for Pocket Pets
GE-07311 16oz Greenies Lil’ Bits for Dogs

Does this mean a full recall?

Update: In my attempt to find out actual information I made two calls, one to Greenies® and one to Neeps Wholesale. The CSR person at Greenies®, sounding a bit flustered had said “no, they are not being recalled” and transferred me to a voicemail. I then spoke to Dawn of Neeps Wholesale, and although she wasn’t entirely sure of what exactly happened, she does know that Linda, I assume her associate, got an email Friday to pull all those listed above as they were being recalled. Dawn said they were likely to be recalled by the manufacturer, possibly the Heinz corporation as it owns Greenies®. She will hopefully call me back once she speaks to her associate.
So, bottom line, still unsure.

Big Dogs with Jobs / Bear- Therapy Dog x2
« on: August 26, 2006, 01:14:22 pm »
Yeah! Today Bear went to test for the Los Angeles Based animal assistance therapy program which will allow him to work at the children's hospitals. After a long day, 4 hours, he passed his tests with flying colors! I am so excited!! This program sounds so good. As soon as we passed I got a "Love on 4 Paws" polo & matching lanyard; Bear got a new vest with the logo embroidered, a pin, business cards & a new therapy dog patch; and we got a poloroid camera. The camera is so that we can take pics with the kids at every session. Next month, after all of my health clearances are done, I'll get some preprinted stickers to put on the pics when they come out that say "I visited with Bear today!" I really can't wait, if you couldn't tell.  ;D

Great Dane Discussions / Tenchi Update #3
« on: August 24, 2006, 12:02:50 pm »
As per a friend of Moni's:

Tenchi had his bloodwork today and it isn't good.  His already low protien
levels are now in the basement.  He is still bleeding internally, and he has
lost 3 pounds since Saturady (His normally 165 pounds is down to 143).  He
has only pooped twice since he came home, one of those was tiny, Moni said
about the size of a Rock, and the latest one was noraml sized but all black.
They checked him for bowel obstruction, but that came back clear.

The vet said it could be rat poison, but they don't use anything either at
the house or at the farm, so that means it would be intentional which we
don't even want to think about.  Besides, with 5 other dogs at the house,
one of them would have some symptoms as well.  He isn't allowed to do
anything other than go out to go potty (And that's only 3 times a day).  He
goes back on Sunday for more bloodwork, sooner if he gets worse.
