got to LOVE my bubble boy.  never a dull moment in his life!

We do love him and hope for a speedy recovery.

I actually felt like we had a Fumble here for a bit this year. Right before Bear got neutered he had blood in his stool too which freaked me out. $200 later and 3 hours at the vet we found out it was round worm. Yucky! He got meds and was all better. After he got neutered he got bloody pee which horrified me. $200 later I found out he has a UTI. Again, meds made him all better but now I am more paranoid and check his pee (I do watch it coming out) and his poo very diligently to make sure he is ok.

That is the cutest puppy! I love that little face. Question, how old are they when their hair starts to fill in on their face to give them their distinct look?

You can trust a newf to be your protector when you need them most. All our newfs have come accross as happy go lucky and useless property protectors. But two have each growled at one person each.Abbey growled at a guy when we were at an automatic teller machine, and he left. And Zack growled at a guy, at our gate, who asked to use the phone. For a car break down. We live out in a very quiet rural area and i was home alone. I did not let him in the gate and told him i was unable to control my dog ;D I think they would protect their people, but would let anyone walk away with your propety :D

Those are two situations where their instinct totally saved you I think. I am amazed at how smart our dogs really are!

JaBear....how much did Bear weigh at 12 weeks old?  Mine are about 30lbs but Bear looks much more filled out then Koda and Kyra.

He was a big boy but was just longer and fluffier than most I think because he only weighed 32 lbs. at 12 weeks. Now though, he is still long and big boned and weighs 165 lbs. at 5 3/4 years old.

And your puppies are soooo cute, you need to post way more pictures of them.

I totally agree with Clifford. I love your pups, want to see more pics of them, and like your posting. How else are you supposed to learn without asking questions?

How do you teach the 'gentle' command? Getting them to control their power?

Besides the "leave it" command I'd also try teaching them Bear's trick with small dogs. He loves, love, loves them but can be overwhelming since they are so small. So, I taught him to "be easy, they're babies" phrase which means that he has to lay down and stay there until they are comfortable with him. He is very gentle and moves slowly from then on unless they are not intimidated by his size and beg him to play. Good luck!

And to teach it, practice, practice, practice, and reward when it works. It is not instant but if you are consistent and do it everytime they see each other it will become routine. When Bear sees a little dog he immediately lays down- many times without a word from me.

Sorry that your start with the puppies is so rough, that stinks! Bear came to me at 12 weeks with a big white heart on his chest which slowly disappeared beginning about 4 months. He was all black with no traces of white a couple of months later and if you want to see any white now you have to peel back all of his fur in the chest area. My breeder told us that all white patches shrink as the dogs grow which is why we can't see his any more and if it had started out bigger it would still be around.  ???

I've attached two pics for you to see- the first is at 12 weeks and the second is about 6 months where the white is completely gone.

i'll have to redmind stacy... she said that she might be headed out to CA for a week or something with her boyfriend because he grew up and his fam is in the LA area.  I'll have to remind her that she should try to meet mr. bear if she goes!  You guys are near LA, right?  I'm not sure when she's going, but that would be awesome if you could meet up with her!

I'd love to meet her and so would Bear. We live right in downtown LA so we can literally be anywhere in about 20 minutes.  ;D

I love the Clifford pics! I understand about sneaking him in too cuz we do that with Bear in our complex when we can.  ;D Luckily our friends with pools let him in even though their dogs won't go in.  ;)
