General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Christmas at Rainbow Bridge
« on: December 13, 2008, 07:39:53 am »
Hi all I want to wish all my BPO friends both skin and furry,,a very Happy Christmas and an even Merrier Yew Year.

When I think back on the past year and all the things that have happened both good and not so good..I think of all the breaking hearts for the ones no longer with us..

I also remember all the weight being lifted from the sharing of that heartbreak and grief..

I came across this on another site and wanted to share it with all of you..

I know like many of you it will be the 1st Christmas without someone special..just like me..

I hope you enjoyed it like I did..

Christmas at Rainbow Bridge

As the midnight hour approaches on Christmas Eve, a tremendous celebration begins. If you listen closely you will hear the exuberant sound of Bridgekids preparing for the remarkable moment that comes but once a year. Puppies romp through the tall green grass, chasing butterflies and rolling over and over until fits of giggles bring them to a tumbling stop. The volume increases as kittens, cats, tigers and lions purr in pure delight while the wings of snow white doves gently caress the air. The babbling brook that runs beneath Rainbow Bridge overflows onto the edge of mossy banks and fins of treasured aquatic life quiver in anticipation of this most joyous event. Nestled in the midst of this happy choir of Bridgekids are the littlest angel tots staring in awe at the majestic Christmas tree adorned with flowing strands of angel hair. Effervescent, twinkling stars seesaw elegantly from the sky and land in glorious harmony upon the stoic limbs of Heaven's most perfect Christmas tree. Swaying to and fro in nearby rocking chairs are grandmothers, grandfathers, parents, aunts, uncles and loved ones. The sound of their whispered lullabies permeate the air as they sing to tiny angel babies resting quietly in their arms.

Like magic the clock approaches midnight and a great stirring is heard in the distance. Each Bridgekid stops and listens, knowing the time is near, and they choose a fleecy cloud on which to snuggle. The roar of purrs drops to barely an audible hum, the babbling brook ripples hypnotically and the flutter of downy feathered wings fall silent. Heaven's spirited toddlers climb expectantly upon the laps of angels while babies coo in tranquil unison.

Amidst the warm glow of candle light which rises from the earth below, the arms of the Bridge Keeper envelop the heavens and into the precious hands of each child and in front of each animal a holy gift is placed. With grand exuberance the ribbons are removed and left to fly on a tender breeze where they dissolve into showers of angel dust. As the golden lids of these heavenly gifts are raised, an amazing aura fills the sky, reaching down to the very core of the earth. Ascending from each and every box is the greatest gift of all…unending, unconditional, all-encompassing love. This blessed love gently wraps itself around the cherished souls of heaven, warming their hearts with beacons of radiant light and bringing forth from angels an exquisite chorus. As the clock strikes midnight the distance between heaven and earth is vanished. It is at this very moment on Christmas Eve that the Bridge Keeper, His children, angels and Bridgekids send a message to their earthly loved ones on the wings of this unbridled love.

Listening carefully with an open heart we will hear the familiar voice of our own angel whisper softly into our ear their Christmas message..."Let me share with you this love of mine, always and forever. When you need me know that I am here. I have not left you for I am in your heart where I belong. Our love is eternal as is the brilliant glow of candlelight which illuminates the path to the heavens and Rainbow Bridge. I wait patiently as do you for our inevitable and glorious reunion. I love you, I love you, I love you."

Smaller Sibling Discussion & Pictures / Potential Therapy Dog
« on: November 06, 2008, 06:13:37 am »
Hi all I plan to post this on tinypaws but I know some of you also have little fur kids and might be looking..

Tricia and the fur kids

I hope it is OK to post this here.

I have a foster dog that is extra-special and I really feel this girl
has the potential to be an incredible therapy dog. I'd love to see
her placed in to a home that will develop this potential. I will
happily drive up to 4 hrs away from Chapel Hill, NC to get her to the
right family.

Hope is 1.5 - 2 yrs old, 26 lbs and appears to be a standard
dachshund/spaniel mix. She is the sweetest, calmest, most
even-tempered dog I ever met. Hope assumes everyone is her friend and
greets them with a sweet smile, calm tail wag and by sitting in front
of them. She never barks, jumps or paws at people. She doesn't put
her mouth on you, even when taking a cookie. Hope has very expressive
eyes, great soft eye contact and a strong desire to connect with
people. I've had people comment that she caught their eye from across
the room and they couldn't help but come over to pet her. At the dog
park she goes from owner to owner to greet them and make friends.
Hope thrives on touch and readily accepts any handling. She is not
hand shy and doesn't mind people picking her up, rolling her over,
opening her mouth, handling her feet, etc. Hope has tolerated a herd
of noisy children petting without any problem. I do feel she is
better suited to work with the elderly or one-on-one with kids though.

Hope has absolutely no possession aggression issues and gives up bones
food, and toys without any problem. She does just fine with crowds,
walkers, canes, wheelchairs, or people moving oddly. Even if startled
by a loud noise, she recovers quickly and investigates what caused it.
She greets other dogs politely if they approach her and ignores them
otherwise (though she has just started playing with my 2 dogs.)

You can see pictures of Hope and read more about her on her Petfinder
page:
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12266004
She is MUCH cuter than she looks in her pictures. Every time I
pointed a camera at her she got that serious, worried look.

This girl is really special and I appreciate any help in finding her
the perfect home.

Thanks

Articles / LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE
« on: October 21, 2008, 05:42:19 pm »
I just had to share this one..

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
======================

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell
from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was
well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head;
he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall,
curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next
day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and
resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour.
This continued off and on for several weeks.

Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: "I would like to find
out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you
are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my
house for a nap."

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note
pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with 6 children, 2
under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep.
Can I come with him tomorrow?"

Book Club & Noteworthy Reads / To all BPO members
« on: July 05, 2008, 12:09:22 am »
My heart is full of gratitude to all the responses to my tribute to Magic..and it says so much to how much he has touched and changed the world in his time with me..

I added the following to his tribute and wanted to be sure and post it again for everyone to read including those that have already left me messages..

I found this on BPO some time back and it truly says what I have believed in my heart for many years but says it much better than I ever could..

My life is blessed to have you all in my life even if only thru a computer

A LOAN FROM GOD

God promised at the birth of time, a special friend to give,
his time on earth is short,He said.so love him while he lives.

It may be six or seven years, or twelve,or then sixteen,
but will you, till I call him back, take care of him for Me?

A wagging tail and cold wet nose, and silken velvet ears,
a heart as big as all outdoors,to love you through the years.

His puppy ways will gladden you and antics bring a smile,
as guardian or friend he will, be loyal all the while. He'll
bring his charms to grace your life, and though his stay be
brief, when he's gone the memories, are solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
but lessons only a dog can teach..I want you each to learn.

Whatever love you give to him, returns in triple measure,
follow his lead and gain a life, brim full of simple pleasure.

Enjoy each day as it comes, allow your heart to guide.be loyal and
steadfast in love, as the dog there by your side.

Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain, nor hate me
when I come to call, to take him back again?

I fancy each of us would say,*Dear Lord, thy will be done, for all the
joy this day shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.*

*We'll shelter him with tenderness,we'll love him while we may
and for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.*
But shall the angels call for him, much sooner than we've planned,
we'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.*

Remembering those no longer with us. / A TRIBUTE TO MAGIC
« on: July 03, 2008, 04:55:51 pm »

                                                           A TRIBUTE TO MAGIC
*FROM GOD'S HANDS
  INTO MINE*

I needed some magic in my life. In the previous 2yrs. I lost my Rotti (Bear) 11 1/2 yr old to cancer: and then a 9mth. old to HD (Angus) he was a Kuvaz and a wonderful soul:

.I had just agreed to mid-wife a litter of pups for an elderly friend and got the same news about my 4mth old Nellie,(a Great Pyrenees).I decided not to get another puppy, I had become the keeper of babies that were terminal, and I wanted a change in job description. After all there are plenty of lost souls in shelters, that would be great therapy pets , and more importantly my best friend.

Hearing the news about Nellie my friend offered me one of the puppies: I said NO NO... NO more babies in my house.

It came down to this, when the Universe presents you with a gift, however it is presented,  your a fool not to accept it with gratitude.

I got the call at 2:30 AM the day after Thanksgiving and spent the rest of the weekend there, 1st the birth and then settling everyone into a routine. It was great! I love that part of things.

Magic was my favorite of seven, from the time he went from* God's hands into mine.*That is how our journey began together

Today at 11:30 AM he went from my arms back to God

Magic has taught me so much I can not even begin to say..

The top of the list I must say, don't ever underestimate yourself or anyone else.

Next would have to be *Live in the MOMENT*

LOVE with EVERYTHING YOU ARE

He taught me that Magic is a real thing in our world..and we should share it with as many people as we come in contact with..young.. old..rich...po or...makes no difference..

My heart is breaking..and it is hard to wrap my brain around the fact that he is gone from my sight..

But will always be with me in the MAGIC of my HEART

To those of you who knew Magic..weather you met him in person or through e-mail..or even just read a story about him..thank you for sharing his MAGIC

Medical Conditions & Diseases / UPDATE on MAGIC
« on: July 01, 2008, 02:46:33 pm »
Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts..

The news we got today was not so good..

Magic has a cardaic problem..

Our Vet who we have had for 18 years and has never been wrong yet in dignosing what we eventually find out..recommend ed that we take him to a specialist... depending on what we wanted to do.

But in most of the cases he has seen with what Magic presented to him today after a through exam ..xrays..and an ekg..that.. even with the best care..and everything including the kitchen sink..the most we could expect is 6 mths..

He knows us and Magic very well. and poor Magic is panic stricken in a hosptial setting..of which there would be a great deal..

For now..he is prescribing him some meds that might help him breath a little easier..and we took him home..

So we do not know how long he will stay with us..but if his discomfot becomes more than he can handle we will take care of that when the time comes..

Again thanks to all of you..keep us in your prayers and I will keep you updated on things here..for now it is called

SPOIL  PAMPER and then SPOIL some more..

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Prayer request for Magic
« on: June 30, 2008, 09:35:19 pm »
Hi all..
I think that something is very wrong with my Magic
Last week I made the mistake of giving him a *pig ear* or so I thought..
He seemed to have a tummy problem from that and just layed on his bed and wouldn't respond or eat or anything else..

The next day he was back to himself..

Today..a week later..he suddenly was not responsive..
didn't want to move..labored breathing..and not making any eye contact..

It was so bad that my 1st gut reaction was that I was losing him..I knew that if I took him to the vet the trauma of it could do him in..and if he was going I wanted him here and comfortable with us..

He is on his bed behind me and tomorrow he will be going in to the vet no matter what so that if there is anything I can do for him I will..

Please say a prayer for him and me..

I can't imagine my life without him in it..

He has been  the Magic in my life for 9 1/2 years.

Sorry for the double post but I couldn't change the subject line and these pics crack me up

OK I'm going to try these if it doesn't work I'll try again

Falkor really loves playing mama and while the baby may cry and sometimes loudly mama has a cleaning job to do,as well as kisses on the face..

Magic gets very worried when he hears crying..any kind of crying but especially babies..

Well it's been a real busy day..my husband woke me up with news..he went over to see a friend and there was an emergency goin on..their dog had found where a stray mama cat had had her kittens and it was between the shed and the house and she saved the last one from the dog..he had already gotten one..

So when he woke me up and told me they had an emergency I thought it was one of them or their dog..

He said no..it's in the box..OMG  I have been here many times it was only a matter of what kind of mamal it was going to be..

I got it's body heat up and got some forumla down it..and have been doing so all day..it's time to go feed it again and ever hour or so..it isn't sucking real well in the bottle so it takes a bit longer to fill it's tummy

All black and I don't know if it is he or she yet..but my guess is 24 to 48 hours more or less..

I hope the picture comes thru
