Messages - My Friend Joey

Pages: 1 [2] 3 4 5
Hi all,

It's been a long time since I posted. Too much has been happening lately. So much so, that I have been absorbed in it all...complete ly...I think the fog is beginning to lift a little now though, (too much to get into.) Joey turned 2 years old on the 22nd of October though. Happy birthday Joey. Anyway, this is me, Georgi and Joey, making an appearance!

I just read that too, very sad leaving behind small children. That man was larger than life and everyone enjoyed him. He will be greatly missed by many. :(

Beautifully written, so terribly sad. :-[

Great information, I'm going to try deflecting Joey with my knee and I will try the other techniques of ignoring too when he is too excited. I sure have noticed that staying calm around him helps with him not getting carried away...he seems to mirror exactly my feelings, (well, not always, but a lot of the time). Thanks everybody. It's comforting to know that there are other dogs that body-check too. I guess it's affection in extreme! LOL  :)

Joey will be two in October. I wish Joey did hang on my every word  ;D ...only when he wants to,(you know how it is) the rest of the time he just ignores me, as if to say "ya, I hear you, but I have something else in mind"... LOL :)

Thanks Tina, I'll try. The tricky part is he starts it from farther away...and then I see him coming and usually my reaction,(before thinking), is to holler Joeyyyyyyyyyyy ....turn my back and brace myself for contact. ;) I know I'm not doing well on that score  :-[
Joey will also do that "hug" thing you are talking about. He will quite gently rise up on his back legs and put his feet on my shoulders, to nuzzle me and lick my face. He will even do it when I am walking in front of him and walk with me while hanging onto my looks absurd...LOL.

I think that people are just naturally drawn to animals and a big dog has such a presence (and take up so much more space!), that people just want to get closer. :)

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Body -checking question?
« on: September 01, 2006, 04:37:57 am »
Does anyone out there have a dog that will run up and body-check them when playing, or in greeting. My dog Joey does it to me and my husband with his chest...runs for us and kind of bounces off us but it's just a little scarey when you see a 100 pound, big, white fluffy thing charging up to you....and its even more fun with friends...not, LOL ;D. Nothing about it is vicious, just happy and playfull on his part, but obviously, potentially dangerous. Has anyone else out there had this experience with their dog or puppy?

I agree and that's one of the reasons I have found Cesar so helpfull. My Joey is a very headstrong, dominant dog. I knew I needed help and things are much improved with Joey's behavior now with the use of some of his techniques.

:o Wow, that artical is pretty scathing! Sounds like he is jealous of Cesar. I personally like Cesar and I too, have tried some of his techniques with success. I like his idea of the use of energy and I have found that very helpfull with Joey. And his supposed comment about women, (I haven't heard it for myself), about being wired differently... we are, and I'm proud of it. I pretty sure that's the way nature intended it...LOL.  ;)In any case, as the old addage goes, "don't throw the baby out with the bath water".
