Messages - My Friend Joey

:o You have a very big dog to be pulling you around! I definitly think he is being the alpha. I know, I have that problem too although things are much improved now with my dog Joey. He is 100 pounds but extremely muscular and strong underneath all that hair. I use a "Halty" or gentle leader on him. He completely ignored the prong collar I tried on him and besides, something about the prong collar always bothered me. However, I know it really works for others though and ultimatley, you need to use what works for your dog.
Joey still has some challenging behavior, but he has mostly stopped trying to alpha me and is happier and more secure because I realized I had to take control of the situation. I was hurting him with too much kindness, (probably because I adopted him and felt sorry for him), wrong! Joey is very sly at manipulting if I let him and he does it in a "nice" way...he just lovingly and gently pushes until he gets his own way...pretty crafty!

Anyway, I am reading the book "Cesars Way". I like his techniques. It's not for everyone but it's good for me. My mother bought for me after a broken finger, bumps and bruises from my dog pulling me around, and a mild concusion. It is really helping but it requires dicipline on my part ;)...that's my challenge, being consistent and not a pushover..whic h I am by nature. Hope this helps, cheers! :)

I just saw 8 below last weekend and I just loved it. Gut wrenching at times... :'(... but what a story! Definitely worth a watch. :)

Welcome Carrie!
This is a cool site with lots of friendly "dog people", it's great. I'm pretty new here too and just finding my way around. Can't wait to see the pics of your pup. I am the proud owner of a Kuvasz/Great Pyr cross puppy (Joey) that I rescued...he's almost two now! Again, welcome!

Wow, it does to me. I don't know the complete story of Rosie or how you lost her, but the feelings you write down are very descriptive. Maybe sometime you could tell me Rosies story? Your love for her was so great. God Bless.

Mixed Breed Pictures / Ears

I noted a discussion on "Ears" earlier today... and about two weeks ago, ( I'm a bad fur baby mother), I noticed that Joey's right ear, is different from his left. On further investigation, I realized, that it does not "lye" right on his head, as if the "crease" is in the wrong place. Does this happen from time to time with dogs? I guess that slight deviations happen. It only makes him more lovable though  ;)

Hi everybody,

It's me, Georgi. I just got back from a week of vacation and I am wondering about the Pyr dog, Lady and if she was adopted yet?

It's good to be home. I missed my big Joe. It will be good to get out walking with him again...I may be a few pounds heavier after all the vacation goodies...LOL,

Dont' worry, I'm sure someone will step forward to take Lady. She is such a beautiful dog. There are lots of caring people out there. Bless your heart for wanting to help so much.

I'm sorry. Maybe things will work out yet. She is such a dear sweet thing. It just broke my heart to read her story. It's hard to imagine that people can be so cruel, and then there are people like you, that will try your hardest to extend yourself to help. The world needs more kind people. If I could, I would rescue every dog that needed rescuing. God Bless all creatures great and small. It would be an empty world without them.

Hi everybody. Is there any new news on Lady, the Great Pyr female that was rescued from an abusive owner. She looks like such a dear girl.

43 words...she is just so beautiful a creature. After her tormented past she needs the most caring family in the world.

:D OMG! Too cute! I love the pics.

Thank you, yes. He has some pitch on him too from lying under the trees and it's hard to get out. Sheesh, I've got my work cut out for me. We were outside all weekend doing house repairs to the deck and Joey rolled in a multitude of things...dirty
Thanks, Georgi
