Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Paw pad Injury & Recovery
« on: November 25, 2006, 06:21:28 pm »
Hi Guys,

My little husky Mika injured her paw pad the other day on one of her frantic 100mph runs around the woods where we go. She seems to have stood on a sharp object and it has sheared a slice of her pad. Now she does limp sometimes but does not wimper and I took her out this morning for a little while mainly on grass to check it out and whilst she was fine, when I inspected her pad, it had worn a little hole and was slighlty bleeding, although she was fine!

What should I do here; should I keep her from running about for a few days/ week or so until this heals as my worry is that it may get furtherd damaged by her running around.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig.

Guys,

Would it be an idea to start giving Kaiko MSM and Glucosamine supplements as well as a good balanced diet? Is there any side effects to be giving this to a 4mths pup who probably isn't suffering from HD?

Cheers,

Craig

First of all, all my best for Nala, these guys are great with essential help and information.

My Mal Kaiko is now 4 months old and we live in a second floor flat - which means a few stairs. He seems to be fine but on reading about HD, like anything you read too much of, I have become a little paranoid!! When he has had quite a bit running about with Meeka our 9 month Siberian, He seems to drag his rear legs just a little. Now I don't know if this is just that he is tired or the signs of something worse. I tend not too give him much excersize as I feel the stairs and a little run in the back garden are probably enough right now. He does not appear to be in any pain. His Hip score was good also....

What are people thoughts on how much is too much for Kaiko. He is 4 months and weighing in at 23Kg just now. I feed them twice a day. Mainly rice with eggs and or tuna, little beef sometimes mixed with burns dog food - but read that too much protien could be a problem as well.

Any advise here would be well recieved.

Many Thanks,

Craig

Now I don't mind cleaning up pee & pooh well, y'know I luv em BUT there is a point!!! Now with Meeka she was around 16/17 weeks when she eventually almost overnight decided she would not pee in the house anymore - Thats my girl!

Kaiko the male mal, is 14 weeks now and as I would expect a pee munster.....lo l.....At what age do they manage to gain bladder control and does anyone have any good ideas apart form the obvious up and down the stairs at any sign of it coming on that may help....

Oh, he is pretty much paper trained at this moment in time, although bless, he can miss......but then - cant we all!!

Thanks Guys, you 've ben great.........

Hi Guys,

and thanx to you all for your positive replies on feeding and the pics, something good in all. However a new problem has arisen!! or two!! My LITTLE Malamute (who scared ever other doggy owner at puppy class! has decided that when we take him for a walk that it is an excellent strategy to lie down and not move on the sidewalk, daaaanaaa!!! Why does he doo this  - is he maybe scared of the traffic? because he isi fine when he gets to the park!!! I can only carry a 20kg puppy so far? Opinions on a postcard please! Also he has this messy habit of pawing at the water bowl so I have to continually mop up - thanks Kaiko,,,,not a major problem but you see where I am coming from!!

The next Issue so to speak is that when we have our Sib and Malamut pup 8mths and 13 weeks respectively out and around the dog community, Meeka the Sib is beginning (out of nature to become a wee bit snarly! I dont know the answers here and would so greatly apprecaie a little guidance from you guys. Thank you.

Craig.

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Eating Habits Of the Alaskan Malamute
« on: August 19, 2006, 08:34:21 am »
Hi Guys,

Pyscho Kaiko my growing not so little boy has an eating disorder (of sorts) I think!! He really is keen to eat fast, rapid and like a monster on amphetimes or too much coffee or both! You get the drift!

Basically whenever it is food time, we have to feed Meeka our Siberian and Kaiko separately (is this normal?) Otherwise it turns aggressive when normally they are fine together day or night.

Kaiko is 11 weeks, Meeks 7 Months but Meeka was never as boisterous as Mr K is even in her early youth. Kaiko cannot seem to control himself and muches though his dish at a frightning rate, when I try to take the dish away he demostrates slight panic an agression and is frantic for return to the food, I am almost frightened to put my hand near his dish but he does need to chill because when he grows to the big boy he will.....well you know the story.....

Generally his temprament is of an Angel but not at food time?? He gets fed around 3 large mugs of food per day, he is in good shape ratio and weighs in at around 15Kg. I suppose the question is - I am feeding him enough?

Thanks for any help you can give me on this Guys and Oh with regard to my earlier post of will his ear stand up please refer to the attached pics for your enjoyment.

Craig

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Malamute Ears
« on: July 25, 2006, 05:02:01 am »

Hi Guys, I am from Scotland and have one seven month old Siberian Husky named Meeka and one male Alaskan Malamute named Kaiko who is 9 weeks. I would like to ask a question if I may. One of the Malamute's ears just popped up around a week ago but the other is still floppy. Is this normal or could it be that the endless playfights the two have have damaged the younger one's ear.

Thanks in advance,

Craig
