are you giving pill form or liquid? and do you alternate them? you could also give a lamb and rice food...that is for skin and coat. Although no dog should ever stay on that perminantly because it does not support the dogs heart

I give Jaz...2 tablespoons of any of the oils 2x a day... liquid that is. I am sure the capsules work too... but Jaz loves the taste of the oils.  Bath only rarely, and when you do use an oatmeal or milk based shampoo

i hope you don't mind me posting here... but if you use oils in addition to her/his food that helps greatly.  I use salmon oil (grizzly), flaxseed oil, olive oil.... alternate them. In the process of making the food, the oils are cooked out of the food or they are greatly reduced.  Also you can give Vitamin E or D... i forget which on i give...i think E that will help with the skin...althoug h these are fat soluable...but you can get water soluable too. I have the water soluable, no chance of OD that way!!! ::)

Meet & Greet BPOers / get together in MA
« on: August 09, 2006, 04:47:47 am »
I am from Natick MA, I am looking for another dane (or large dog) for my little girl to play with a few times a week, either in the early morning or after 6 pm. I know you are out there... please contact me. Jazmine is a deaf, wonderful 105 lb, 31 inches dane pup who is wanting to play. But her best play buddy Koda is moving to FL on Saturday, so we have no more play dates. Will you be her friend? Will travel for fun, although not too far.
Please help us...

so then i should take her for walks? What we do is go for walks 2 times a week approx. 30 min. then everyday we play, play, and play. Although i do have to say i threw my back out and it is just getting better now, so i definitly need to catch her up on the play. So walks are good then? So many confusing things. First i read and am told don't walk, prevent hip dysplasia, then to walk... i dont know what to do.  She is 105 lbs, 9 months old, very slender. She eats approx. 4-6 cups a day... definitly depends on what is going on.. whether she is super active or just a day in bed. She also gets 1 can of wet food a day... (i think more for me than her though).  she does have shoulder development and leg muscles too. But with her foot dragging at times, i just wanted to take it easy for a while.  So how long and how many times a day/week should i walk her then?

I know it is a different food, but i tryed flint river with jaz, and it was too nutrient dense for her, gave her the worste bout of bum blowouts i have ever experienced with a dog, it was to the point of her crying when going. So needless to say i stopped once that happened.  If your pup never had problems with the water this whole time, then why do something different? Sometimes the foods are too dense for the dogs to digest properly.  I did the same 1/4 cup to three of the old foods and that still set her belly in an uproar. After she ate i lied on the bed with her and listend to her stomach...the amount of air in there, and bubbles occuring ... i felt horrible, so i started her on Prozyme and it does wonders. Try giving an enzyme like prozyme or D-zyme from solid gold, it help jaz with her blowouts i am sure it will help yours.

At the shelter they fed her Proplan adult food, i changed her to solid gold. She is 9 months ole. She definitly was lacking muscles, all skin, bone, and a little fat. Since i have had her i know not to do road work (walks) with her, so i take her swimming. She is a pro at swimming, and loves it.  After her swim she does NOT drag her feet (usually). The vet did check her out and there are no problems as of now.  I have had her for a little less than 2 months.  She sleeps like a frog with her legs out backwards on my bed, she doesn't jump on the bed, she puts her front two paws on then we lift her on the bed. We have two trucks and we lift her into those as well.  She doesn't limp, although it seems like she some what favors her left leg. When she  gets off of anything, she always puts the left rear paw first, and then instantly almost at the same time her right paw to catch her. From her swimming there is a definite muscle definition to help her gain those muscles.

The vet says she is fine, she does it reguardless of the speed of her gate, running, walking, jogging, it doesnt matter.  Some times she even tripps on her feet, i was concerned until i met someone else who has a dane and her's does the same thing (triping i mean) but her pup was 5 months old and 95 lbs. he was not very healthy looking...defi nitly a large pup. But he trips on his feet too. But i am concerned for her dragging her feet. The vet said she has very nice hips. I was thinking of getting booties for her feet so she doesnt end up with bloody feet.... it isn't all the time... just every so often.

hello again... Jazmine is the best pup in the world. But when i picked her up from a kill shelter, they said that she drags her feet when she walks. What i have noticed what they mean is she "stubbs" her left and right rear foot when she walks. Just the toes sometimes, not always drag on the floor, cement, or whatever surface she is walking on. She rarely does this but just asking if anyone had a clue.

i hope you don't mind me chipping in here... but Eagle pack anchovie here in MA isn't nearly that expencive. Where do you get it from? On the eagle pack website you can get $2 off coupons.  I distribute flint river ranch, i could send you a sample of that if you want,... or i can find the website with free shipping to send you the eagle pack food.
