That looks a lot like what Adicus gets. I assume it's allergy related, although the vet isn't so sure. Anyway, his usually gets much worse because he starts to chew on his hands... But the rash had also appeared in the armpit and back legs too.

Good luck and glad to hear Riley (and Thomas) is getting better.

Adi gets that too, especially w/ the combo from all the drool, licking. I try and brush through it once a day as well.

I can't imagine every leaving adi for an extended amount of time alone in the house! I crate him. He's just six months and well, very well behaved... so a quick run to the store and back when he's not too energetic is as much freedom as he gets. I don't think he'll ever really  get liberated, as I have two cats and just under 700 sq feet... He loves to chase and attack the cats. Which could mean I'd be walking into a disaster zone.

The scary thought it that the cage he is in now, which was passed on to me from my dad who used it for his labs, just won't be large enough as he keep growing. He's filling it out nicely now, but after the new year, we may have to go buy the next size up - the largest one available!

Good luck finding a solution that works for you. Adicus loves his crate and it guarantees that he won't be getting in trouble any time soon.

I'm still on the fence about waiting till he's a year or just doing it now. But it's good to know if I do wait and end up in Texas, I can bug you! PLUS, if we do move, you can be a sounding board for my apartment hunt. Haha. You got yourself in trouble!

That's a good point. A lhasa asha (sp?) we had growing up had to have surgery to remove a cherry eye. they're are bulbous, but it would be easier to catch if you are aware that it's a possibility... often times, they can be a reappearing problem, if the pup develops one.

i take a tissue to adi's eyes each day to get the "sleep" out of there. if you do the same, you can easily monitor the situation.

yay for saints.

Awe. He just wanted to love him some Heidi. I am glad to hear he's doing well. And you can rest easier when the girl goes into heat. Sigh, I can't imagine having a girl pup in heat. I've only had maybe one or two girl dogs growing up, and they were spayed so early... Let alone a boy and a girl!

I am going to be neutering Adi sooner than I would ideally like, probably in a month or so. At this point, I am up for the full-time position here in Milwaukee, but don't know when they will be making their decision. I am definitely going to be here till Jan 5, though. After that, we might be moving off to Austin. I am going to neuter Adicus here because I really love and trust our vet who came so highly recommended from everyone at the newsroom where I work. I just don't want to worry about moving and then trying to find a vet that I feel comfortable with or something going wrong. Adi will be about 7 months when he gets the snip.

It sure is. Apparently, the third eyelid of the saint is commonly transparent and not black like most breeds, therefore the red shines through. Also, sometimes the eyelid gets inverted and pushes back on the eye (?), making the outer lid droopy.

Adi's only droop a tiny bit. You can see it a bit in his halloween pic:

Haha, Adi will do that if he wants me out of bed. I  usually get up in the morning to take him out and give him some food, then go back to bed... two hours later its a wet snout on my face or a dog laying on me in the most awkward position with a little whine.

Duke's a barrel. Hope you didn't suffer brain damage.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: Saints on Gentle Leaders?
« on: October 24, 2006, 07:08:00 am »
Adi was starting to become hard to handle, but then we began doggie classes. I learned how to properly use the leash and to do sneak-aways when he isn't paying attention to me, and generally the leash is pretty relaxed now. He does get distracted by squirrels and other dogs, but he doesn't charge them anyway.

Adicus is a huge hoover too. And our street is pretty disgusting (unfortunately, the kids that live on it haven't learned to not trash the place you call home). So basically I am commanding him to DROP IT or NO every two seconds until we get off our block... I detest putting my hand in there because of how slobbery it is and never quite knowing what will come out... luckily, it usually a leaf.

Good luck! The gentle leader worked wonders on the husky I rescued.

Adi has one rear dewclaw which is really just like a tiny toenail. It appeared one day when I was rubbing his belly and then his foot and I said what was that... and it popped out. Sounds weird, I know. I'm notorious for being a 'picker' so it bugs the h*ll out of me. I want it removed but unless he deems it just as annoying, I won't ask them to do it when he gets neutured.

Adi was doing this a lot two weeks ago. Then when I finally caught him puking (he did it when i was sleeping, i could hear it but by the time i got there, he had cleaned it up himself - ick), i noticed that what came up with the food was tennis ball fabric, i tried to grab it quick, but he got it... so the next night, i was all prepared, pretending to sleep and hoped out of bed in time to get it. That cleared things up.

Anyway, maybe he got into something he shouldn't have and his body is trying to take care of itself. It will probably work itself out. I agree, if he's him happy self, keeps a good appetite and drinks, then give it some time.

good luck!

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Eagle Pack
« on: October 11, 2006, 05:10:00 am »
Adi did well on Eagle Pack puppy before I surmised that he had a corn allergy that had him breaking out and itching. In turn, he did great on Solid Gold Wolf King for a few weeks. Now it's back to the runs. I am going to go pick up a smaller bag of Eagle Pack holistic to try him on it, because I loved the Eagle Pack... Wish us luck....

AND GOOD LUCK to your cutie. Iams doesn't have a good rep. at all. I have a hugeeee bag of Eagle Pack puppy left, for large & giant breeds. I can ship it to you for the cost of shipping only if you want to try it out! It's just sitting in my mud room. It's still good though! PM me if interested!

Is she still being a good girl? (I've been off the computer for a few weeks.) I'm glad to hear she's finally getting the hang of it.

Adicus was real quick. He only has a very rare accident, mostly if he's being extremely primal and digging into his bed like a mad man, he'll stop and just pee on it and keep digging (I retired the bed for now...). Most of the accidents are my fault anyway, but it's once, maybe every 3 or 4 weeks now.

Looks like Adicus either picked something up on a walk or his tummy just doesn't like the Wolf King anymore. I'm taking a fecal in today for analysis. I tried filtered water, but that made things WORSE. Yuck.
