Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: holy cow!!!
« on: September 26, 2006, 01:14:18 pm »
Holy cow is right! Adicus just got weighed yesterday and he is 52.5 lbs at 5 months, 1 week! You are going to have a monster dog on your hands by Halloween. Not some flittery mackerfly! Hehe.

(Adi is gaining more on Solid Gold Wolf Pack, but i think he's starving cause I cut back his physical intake a lot with the food switch b/c of the differences - BUT I don't think we'll hit 100lbs for a while!)

I tried posting this on the local Milwaukee Craigslist, but no one replied. I would love to get this to someone who can use it. I'd figure out how to ship it and you can reimburse. Otherwise, I will be donating it to the local animal shelter...

I have an opened bag of Eagle Pack Large & Giant Breed Puppy kibble, 33 lbs. Only one cup was used (began a slow transition from one food to this, but my puppy couldn't even handle less than a cup - it was too rich for him.)

I wasn't sure if I should go over that because he will be gaining. Thanks for the input.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I am still trying to figure out if we're going to head down on Saturday or Sunday. Once I figure that out, we can arrange a mini-meet, maybe somewhere where the pups can get to know one another and then on to some grub! Twisted Spoke sounds good from all of your ravings!

BTW - I saw the SUN today! This good weather better last! I know my boy was pretty pent up the last few days with all the rain we've been having.

Food Discussion & Information / How much adult food for puppy?
« on: September 14, 2006, 05:32:22 am »
Some of you know that I've developed a theory that Adicus has a food allergy to corn. I bought a small back of Solid Golf Wolf King and have been starting to mix it in w/ his ProPlan. So far, he's taking pretty well to it and no problems on the way out...

My question is - how much Wolf King should he be fed once he's fully on it? Since the feeding instructions are for grown doggies. Should I look to see what it is for the Wolf Cub? And feed the same?

Right now Adi's reaching 50lbs at 5 months. He's eating 5 cups of the ProPlan for now, but I realize that these foods are very, very different.

The feeding instructions on the Wolf King are as follows (abbreviated):
40-60 lbs - 2 2/3 to 3 2/3 cups daily
60-80 lbs - 3 2/3 to 4 1/3
80-100 lbs - 4 1/3 to 5 1/4
For larger animals, adjust accoringly.
4.85 cups = 1 lb. 1522 calories/ 1lb.

Bloodhound Discussions & Pictures / Re: Long ears in everything
« on: September 13, 2006, 04:38:30 pm »
We only have minimal ear draggage (haha i made that up) compared to you! Plus, it seems like Adi is growing into his ears, but for a while there his ear "margins" were nasty.

I know nothing about really long earred pups, actually, but have babysat for a few. My aunt always praised me when I would massage her bassetts long ears, telling me it was good to do that and kept the bloodflow healthy. Just a thought which could be sooo wrong. BUT it justifies thos long ear rubbing sessions.

Awe, look how handsome and dignified he is starting to become!  Adi is still quite goofy looking. I blame it on the afro. No one takes him seriously!

Transporting & Traveling With Dogs / We're headed to Chicagoland!
« on: September 13, 2006, 03:45:32 pm »
I'm new to the midwest, and particularly to Milwaukee, where Adi and I call home. A friend of mine just moved up to Chicago from Miami and I'm planning on coming down to visit her and go to the Renegade Craft Fair this weekend in Wicker Park.

I decided that I will be bringing Adi with me because that way I am not in such a rush to get back to Milwaukee... That is if the weather is cooperative! I saw Wicker Park is dog friendly, so that's what gave me the idea. They even have a dog park.

SO - Here's where you MidWesties come in... I'm planning an entire day in the city with my pup. Any suggestions as to dog-friendly restaurants? I know there's a few on the board from Chicagoland...

Thanks!

I'm going to look up Dream Coat. Maybe it can help a bit w/ Adis itchiness and the transition to the new food. I swear, the cashier at the pet store is starting to recognize me!
