What, you've never driven around with a naked, headless guy in the back of your car?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Is it just me?

Well, never with his head happily riding on a stick next to his body!

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Teething tips?
« on: August 20, 2006, 02:37:39 am »
I've been watching Adi for a few days very closely, as a red spot appeared on one of his front knuckles... I worried he might be licking obsessively, but hadn't seen any signs of it. Then another knuckle started to appear red...

Last night, while reading and after Adi had woke up from a nap in my bed, I started to see how this happened. HE EATS HIS PAWS. Well, chews on them, particularlly his right hand, the dew claw and those pink knuckles.

I gave his mouth a look and noticed all his little teeth coming in. He didn't want me to look, letting me know that they are sensitive. It then occured to me that I must not be giving him enough things to chew on.

What helped you get through the teething stage? Anyone else experience this problem of your pup chewing on his own paw? Advice is greatly appreciated. I think I'm going to head to the pet store and check out our options.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: Who's dog is BIGGEST???

194! Sheesh! You all are very humble! But I want to read the weights of the so-called big boy...

I can't imagine how fast Adi is going to grow and gain weight. I took him to the groomers today for the second time and the lady who worked on him two weeks ago was amazed at how fast he is growing. I personally can't see it! I should start a growth photo set like some of you have done...

Adi gets his next weigh in next week. At 13 weeks, he was 28lbs. So at 17 weeks, we'll see.

My friend and I rehabbed a pretty bad Husky a few years back. Once the dog was ready to walk, he became a nightmare. After she ended up adopting him, she tried a gentle leader and it's made a world of difference. I try to advocate for it when I can. Luckily, so far, my pup walks pretty well. But it would have helped enormously with my brother's chocolate lab who I refuse to walk.

Congrats on giving it a try. I am glad to hear that it was successful.

I think that every one is going to have their own opinions on this based on how their own fur kids were during their puppy months. Just be sure to do your research about the breeds and give them supervision while they are still young and growing. Talk to your vet as well when you take the new kid in. The fact that you came here looking for advice was a positive step. You're not going in to this blind and that's smart! But, stay EXCITED!

I don't know anything about newf's but what breed isn't "hyper for the first two years"? Seems so many of them are. Maybe *his* newf and a golden aren't the right mix. From what I can tell from the board, I don't see why you should be worried. Unles of course you saw that scary picture of Angus posted the other day!

Good luck. I am sure you have nothing to worry about. Hopefully other with newf experience will chime in andd reassure you too!

Adi turns 4 months old tomorrow. You can tell he's amassing a zoo from the looks of this toys behind him. The turtle and monkey are his favs.

I've had him for almost a month now and I've barely had any real time to myself since he needs so much supervision! But he's worth it. Look at that face... and the afro...

Here he is today, half-napping beneath the kitchen table. For now, he fits there, but just barely!

Those are some of the most beautiful pups I've seen. Congrats!

Do you split the two of them up so that Bubba has time to play with his toys? Poor guy, but I bet he enjoys letting her run the show!

It's only been a few weeks with Adi, but I've been trying to be vigilant about the potty training. If he has an accident, its usually because I wasn't supervising close enough. But,, he doesn't really give clues either. I take him out of the crate and straight to the yard, and he pees, but when I praise him, he's like, so what? That's what I'm supposed to do...

He's totally submissive, but I haven't really gotten upset with him over this yet because it's all my fault really. Luckily, though, unlike Lola, Adi always pees - usually two to three times a walk. I'm amazed how long that pup can pee, to be honest.

Good luck w/ your girl. You'd think that having a role model, regardless of her sex, she would pick it up more quickly.

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Meet Adicus, the Saint Bernard.
« on: August 06, 2006, 02:09:59 pm »
Hey all. I'm Lori and this is my new pup, Adicus. He's a 3 month old Saint Bernard. I'm looking forward to reading everyones posts and contributing to the community.

Adi is a very timid puppy, who I've been trying to introduce to as many people as we can while on our walks to help break him of his fear. Other than that, he's your average Saint - a huge sloberpus, gentle and playful. He loves belly rubs and to be at my feet when he can.

I've always loved large breeds, having grown up with retrievers my whole life. Now that I've moved out on my own, to a whole new part of the country where I know no one, I'm happy to have a solid relationship with my pup.
