Newfoundland Discussions / Dog Show this weekend....
« on: September 25, 2006, 03:35:20 am »
Well we are getting ready for our first dog show (Conformation) this weekend, Sept. 29- Oct.1.  Very nervous.  I have never shown a dog before and hope that this goes well.  It is a small show compared to the bigger cities.  So far on the schedule there are only four newfs.  That includes ours, so it shouldn't be too stressful for my first time.  Not too sure if my pupper is ready though.  She gets so distracted.  Oh well she is still only a puppy.  I have to remind myself that when I look at her 85 pound body.  She looks older I guess.  And she is getting so big.  We had her professionally groomed by my breeder last weekend.  She now doesn't have crazy puppy dog ears.  It was out of control behind her ears.  I will post pics soon.  And let you all know how the show goes.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / comfortable or not?

Joy really likes her kennel, we ended up making it bigger, to fit her growing body, she did manage all right in the small kennel, but when her face pushed up against the wire I figure I should make it bigger.

Newfoundland Discussions / Prong collars for newfs?
« on: August 31, 2006, 05:32:22 pm »
I was recently told i should get a prong collar to train my newf.  We went to an obedience class on Wed. and my newf, Joy was not responsive to the 1/2 choke i was using.  I want to show her (conformation) in October.  I was wondering what I should do.  Any thoughts?

Newfoundland Discussions / Looking to get another newf pup
« on: August 16, 2006, 03:28:32 am »
I have been thinkin long and hard about this and am not too sure what we should do so I thought we lok to you guys for advice.  We have a five month newf pup, we would like to get another.  We have an opportunity to get one from two seperate places. The first, we have a deposit from Feb. already, problems in the pups, (not what we were looking for at the time), the dog is just being bred now so we prpbably won't get one until at least Dec. end of.  The second is due any day and then October or something like that.  The first lives in Ontario (the dog will have to be sent to us), the second live in North Battleford(we can drive to pick up)
Oh I could tell you so much more but maybe , am I making a mistake thinking about this at all.  Our baby newf is getting ready to show for the fall, and I have never done that either.  Holly cow right? :-\

Rottweiler Discussions / Pee...too excited
« on: August 14, 2006, 02:20:57 pm »
My rotti that is 18 months old has tendancies to pee when you talk to him, look at him, touch him.
We have been very good at trying to let him out before any of this happens but sometimes you can talk to him and put your hand on his head and squirt there he goes again.
When we get company, we have to make sure they talk to him outside or he squirts on their feet.
Does he have a week bladder, nervous bladder, what????
Can it be corrected?
It drives me nuts, you can't really play and get him all excited or squirt.  We do most of our playing in the yard so he can whiz all over, but watch the feet.
Even our Newfie has been whizzed on, when she could walk under him he would pee on her if he got excited.
HELP... ???

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / New Members
« on: August 12, 2006, 11:27:08 am »

Hi everyone.  Two more new members here.  Brad and Dorothy Magnus from Luseland, Saskatchewan. Canada.  We have a 18 month old male Rottweiler named Tiny.  Our female Newfoundland, Joy, is 5 months old.  Quite the combo for dogs.
We have always had Rottweilers, the last two that we had lived till they were 11 and 13.  We are preparing Joy for her first show in October.
Nice to meet all of you.
 ;D
Note: The pic below is obviously old, this was taken not too long after we got Joy.
