« on: September 19, 2007, 02:40:27 pm »
I just wanted to send out a very quick  THANK YOU to the Sunshine Club. You are right Hoover was one of a kind and is deeply missed every second of every day ~ even though I know it was his time  :'(

You are the sweetest bunch of people I have never met, your caring and compassion shows though time and time again in your posts  :-* from Libby and Kim and the rest of the family

To anyone that has small children and pets this is a must book 'Dog Heaven' by Cynthia Rylant

Today was the day I let my best friend for 13.5yrs go  :'( I am trying to stay calm and clear headed as I type this through tears and a runny nose.

I'm sure my heart is broken into tiny pieces by my wee children and their tears, I sat my oldest down to explain to her(5yrs)(not thinking that my youngest would understand he's 3.5yrs) he was listening to everything and when it was time to say good bye at the house ~ my son started crying that he didn't want to say good bye and give Hoover a hug because his heart hurt and he'd miss him. My daughter wants to write him a poem and a song.

The rain wouldn't stop as my daughter and I drove Hoover to the HS where Grandma works 45 mins away(I mean it was pouring)plus it was hard to see through my tears. My daughter waited in the van and Grandma came to sit with her while I went in and carried my dear old man down the stairs that he could no longer see or do, as I picked him up he was so frail a little old man ~ the best old man!!

He went very quietly with me petting him softly......

When it was done(this is just wrong to say) but I felt a calm come over me a relief almost ~ that I did the best thing for him.

As I came out of the HS it was still raining, on the drive home my daughter cried softly in the back, the sky was still dark with clouds but in the middle right on our van the sun was shineing so strong and bright I told my daughter, Hoover was sending us a message 'THANK YOU' and every time the sun looks through the clouds on a rainy day Hoover is looking down on us.. that gave her great comfort on the way home(me to)

"WHEN DOGS GO TO HEAVEN,
THEY DON'T NEED WINGS
BECAUSE GOD KNOWS THAT
DOGS LOVE RUNNING BEST.

HE GIVES THEM FIELDS.
FIELDS AND FIELDS
AND FIELDS.

WHEN A DOG FIRST ARRIVES IN HEAVEN,
HE JUST RUNS."
(just alittle part from the book)

RUN FREE MY SWEET OLD MAN  :'( :-*

Okay here is my question ~ the more formula(ounces) that you give the baby(2.5wks preemie), the longer it should be in between feeds right/wrong?  ???

example:

8am 3oz
11  3oz
2pm 3.50z
5   3oz
8   3oz
11  3.5oz
5am 3.5oz

if the baby can go from 11-5 on 3.5oz should it not go longer during the day or where should I add another 3.5oz during the day, trying to get # of ounces up,

I know this is all just a jumble of words that are not coming out right so if anyone can help I just can't think straight and my others were breast fed

Medical Conditions & Diseases / I wonder if the End is near
« on: May 31, 2007, 12:30:46 am »
My poor old mans days are... not so good anymore and they are starting to out number the good ones. Today it is really hot here, I let him out early this am only to watch him fall down the 3 steps we have. He continued on his way to do his duties, trotted around and went to lay in the shade. went to let him in awhile later 1/2hr to be exact, a friend had stopped by to bring me some flowers for the garden and he fell into the steps twice and then when he walked around the backyard he went on an angle and fell over three times I carried him up the steps and brought him inside. He ate his breakfast and then stood looking(he cannot see anymore and we have to clap for him to hear us) at me wagging his tail  :'( Last time I was at the vet they told me he's an old dog and has had a wonderful full life, he is a country vet and I trust him completly. I read and post in the threads of pets that have past on when I can and I know the time is near... just not yet pleeease  :'( Hoover after eating walked over to his bed leaning on everything to get him there safely and is sleeping quietly... am I holding on for my own selfish reasons? I want him to leave us with dignity and pride and not a broken down old man  :'( sorry it's all choppy it's taken me almost 40 min to finish it

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Freaking Out
« on: April 21, 2007, 07:00:23 am »
Okay before I start off with my question... let me just say I am not a freak that worries over every little thing ~ even though it seems like it  ;)

I haven't been on line all week cause the nice weather is here for acouple days and we are taking full advantage of it while it lasts.

Yesterday we were all outside nothing strange happened the dogs were laying on the grass in the sunshine the kids were in the playhouse I was on the deck....

I leave to walk down to the neighbours with the kids, Libby and Hoover stay in the backyard as hubby is now home and out there with them.

Hubby is out rakeing the grass and rolling it so Libby goes up on the deck to sun bath...

Next thing I know hubby is walking down the street telling me to come home as Libby is limping and crying ALOT and he can't find anything wrong  :o

I come home feel all over and everything is fine limping on her front R feel up and down twist pull check .... nothing not a flinch nothing panting alot check the L same except she doesn't want to lift it up and the R she did willingly.

So we kept her and Hoover locked on the main floor(no stairs) last night, she went and laid on her bed and nothing till this am she was crying alittle when I woke up but she does that(she's a mama's girl)and it would have been very stressful for her to sleep on the main floor without me.

This am I let them out to potty limping still ~ not alot of whining, but when she was ready to come in she sat her big butt at the back door and scratched it with her R paw to come in (and she doesn't do this)

Went over to her food and bent over to eat and screamed, I held onto her bowl and she ate fine.

She seems to whine when she walks but it's getting up or down she cries, and her panting has started again

This is so upsetting, do you think this is just a sprain, muscle pull  ???

I have put ice on it and it seems to help, wasn't sure about any pain meds, don't have a crate but I think keeping her off the stairs is a good thing...

What are your thoughts out there in BP land???

Thanks in advance for any help... Kim

Well I have to say last night was awful  :'( While in chat with some of you I got a phone call from the friend we had dinner at. While at dinner she was telling me about her little Pug(Milo) that was at Vet emerg the weekend before and to their own vet acouple times that week. First thing hubby and I said was "wow he should be on some pain meds". She woke up to him screaming in pain(weekend before) ~ X-rays were taken, blood work,etc... sent home with Prednizone thats it WTH no pain meds? The poor boy couldn't turn his head, couldn't lay down or hardly walk, breathing was awful and he screamed in pain. The owner was soo upset, she didn't know what to do. I went and picked them up as she was in no shape to drive and took them down to VE. They remembered him from the weekend before ~ took his temp, weight(he'd lost 4lbs since the last weekend ~ down to 26lbs), heartrate etc.... very high and very noticable how uncomfortable he was, got an IV started for some pain meds which made a huge difference (cause now he was just seeing the nice colours of the rainbow) gave the owner some options on what it might be but couldn't tell her for sure, she didn't know what to do ~ I told her to look into his eyes is he still your baby boy? "No" was the answer and she knew what to do ~ her heart was breaking(this was her 1st time) I told her part of being a good mom is knowing when to let them go (:'( now) she said her good byes and left the room, asking if I could stay with him cause she didn't want him to be alone.... but she couldn't stay with him... what do I say? "Yes of course" the vet came back in and the 'end' was very quiet and peaceful. The ride home was very quiet except for her crying, before she gets out she says "Thank you, if you hadn't come over tonight I would have waited till Monday, I think deep down I knew he was in pain but didn't want to see it, I just wanted him to get better, I trust you". Now I feel even worse did I push her into having him pts? Am I an awful friend that has no heart? I have seen dozens of animals pts working for a HS, it's not the same as your own family member. I haven't called over today as I don't know what to say..... :'( RIP sweet Milo you were a very good boy and a loyal friend  :-*
