General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Is it fair?

My husband and I live in a 2 story home that is less than 1,000 square feet with a tiny lil' backyard.  Lucy will be 10 months this week and she's perfectly fine with a long walk or a trip to the dog park.  She would probably appreciate a larger space for her 10 minutes of zoomies around the backyard everyday but other than that she's pretty happy wherever we are.

I hope this helps with your decision!

EW!  I am so sorry you have to deal with that!  I hate cleaning up bodily fluids and I have a strong gag reflex so I normally have to have my husband do it.

Hope Zero feels better soon!  I love his goofy smile - he's so adorable.

What is the best way to introduce an older puppy to a smaller one?  I'm thinking about re-introducing Lucy (8 months) to a friend's 4 month old Pit Bull pup.  We tried this before when Stella (the pit pup) was about 9 weeks old and Lucy didn't do so well.   Lucy wanted to play with Stella and Stella wanted to play too but Lucy was almost aggressive with the way she was playing with her...standing over her, not letting her go anywhere, but then play bowing a minute later.  Lucy was really obsessive with Stella and got a wierd "glazed over" look to her eyes and absolutely wouldn't obey me at all (and I understand she was about 6 months at the time but she would normally at least acknowledge my presence and she hardly even knew I was there).  I had my friend take Stella home because I didn't want the pup to have a bad experience with another dog.   What should I do this time?  Any suggestions would be great!  Thanks :)

These pictures are almost making me want to let Lucy on the bed!  But she's filthy and the cats would revolt so I'll just oh and awh over your cutie snuggle pics!

LOL!! I love giving Lucy PB, my husband says its mean but hey she gets a treat she loves and I get some cheap entertainment - it's a win-win I say!

Thanks for the photos, they brightened my day!

I am so so sorry.   I had to rehome a puppy once (I was young and dumb and it's a long story) and it was the worst and hardest thing I ever had to do and people looked down on me for it but I knew it was the best thing for me and her. It's awesome that you were brave enough to do what needed to be done for you and Gauge.  Don't beat yourself up about it...you didn't send him to a shelter, you found him a loving warm home with kids to play with him.  Be proud of yourself for doing the right thing.

Lucy sends you big sloppy newfie kisses.

Do all newf girls get bad coats after they have been spayed?  Is it based on nutrition or genetics or both?  Lucy was spayed last month and now I'm freaking out that she is going to lose her beautiful coat!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! What a doll!  This is not helping me at all.  I've been wanting a tiny paw but Lucy doesn't get the idea that she's SO much bigger than the little ones shes been around.  She wants to play with them and well, she almost squished one so I need to wait until she's older.  Keep posting pictures so I can live vicariously through you!

We take Lucy to the "Laundry Mutt".  The names makes me laugh every time.  We LOVE it.  I can't even imagine washing her at home (and since I'm not a gajillionaire I can't have her professionally groomed that often).  It lookes like a black fur bomb went off every single time we leave there.  Their drains must be disgusting!

Sorry I can't be any help with the Shea products question though - cuz I'm not sure what products they give us to use on Lucy (they give us a bucket with the shampoo & water and then a bucket with the conditioner).  She smells heavenly and looks gorgeous (for about an hour! then she's back to her ragamuffin self).

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Lucy HATES to be brushed
« on: February 27, 2007, 02:25:20 pm »
Well, I've been doing the treat/brush thing but it seemed to work best when I bought her a huge knuckle a couple weeks ago. She didn't nip at the brush at all - she just seemed annoyed and kept picking up her knuckle and moving it across the room - lil stinker. I've also been brushing her a bit here and there whenever she walks by and I'm near a brush.  She's getting a little more "ok" with it but not so much so that she'll stay put without a fuss.  It's really the only thing that she doesn't tolerate and gets nippy with.  She's such a doll otherwise.  I'm so dreading her blowing her coat - it's already starting a little bit I think - i've got more black tumbleweeds blowing around on my floor than I used to!

She just turned 8 months and her face has really matured over the past month - I'll have to post some photos soon.

She is just so CUTE!!!  Makes me almost want another puppy.  I guess I'll just live vicariously through all the other puppies that are here!

BTW I'm the mom of Lucy, an 8 month old Newf.  Welcome!
