Medical Conditions & Diseases / Tub's Vet Visit
« on: December 06, 2007, 04:18:25 am »
Well Tub finally had his Vet visist today. The reason his legs look like they turn out, is that he has hyper extended hocks and is cow hocked. The Vet said to his knowledge there is nothing we can do and we just sit and see if he develops any pain from it,but he will check with the Ortho Vet to be sure.He weighed in at 116,but I think the tech was being generous,I think it should have been more like 114.Which is down from his year weight on Oct 26th of 117.And the Vet did think he was a little skinny.I told the Vet they went thru a phase of not eatting much and I recently switched their food and they are eatting more.He wants to give it 2 weeks and reweigh him.If he isn't gaining or loosing more he said we should probably do xrays to see if there is something more going on in his rear quarters then he's letting on to.Anyone have any info on hyper extended hocks or cow hocked? Tub(Saint) is almost 14 mths, how much should he be eatting?

This morning I'm sound asleep in my nice warm bed when Tub climbs down to go outside. He gets to the doggie door and starts barking and whinning. Then he comes running back to my room whinning and hiding in the corner.I thought maybe Butt was blocking the door on him, they do that to each other all the time.I get up and Butt is on the couch.Tub goes back to the door to commence barking and whinning,so I open the door. What do you suppose dare be in our yard and falling from the sky??? That evil nasty Snow  :o He steps out,but comes right back in.I tried to convince Butt to go out with him,but he looks at me like" you brought him home, you take him out" ::) Then Tub goes running thru the house looking out every door and window and is utterly mortified to see that evil white stuff every where he looks. So right now he is hiding under the desk :( I did tell them both they are Saints and they are suppose to like the snow, but I think they think I'm lieing to them ;)So if anyone has any free time and wants to stop and shop vac my yard tub will be your best friend for life :D

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Chicken Tub the sky is falling
« on: December 03, 2007, 01:45:32 am »
Ot at least that is how he acted. ???This morning about 1 am a piece of siding came loose and the wind was just whipping it againest the house.Needless to say the boys started barking and the birds started screaming.I went outside to see what it was and Tub followed me,as soon as he saw he he ran as fast as he could to get away and went head first into the fence :oI got it ripped off and taken care of,but Tub wasn't convinced it wasn't going to come find him.He came in the house and just ran around aimlessly with his tail between his legs.Butt always lays under my desk,Tub never has until last night,he pushed right by Butt to get under there and hide. When I woke up this morning with his head on my shoulder I knew he still wasn't comvinced it was gone. After we got up he stood at the doggie door barking to go out.Which got Butt up and outside,Tub let him go out and peaked out to check on him a few times to make sure the siding didn't eat him before he went out. Then I got in the shower, when I was done and opened the shower curtain there was Tub!!!The whole time I was trying to get ready he was curled around my feet.I told him the I'm scared of everything stage ends at 14 mths,so he has until the day after Christmas to be scared and then he has to be a big brave boy!!!If I was to rename him today,it would be Glue ;D

Saint Bernard Pictures / Looking for Saint pics
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:55:50 am »
Okay this may seem a little weird, but anyone care to share some rear shots of their Saints that are around a year old???? Tub has a funny stance with his rear legs and I don't know if it's because he's at that gangly stage or if he has some sort of problem. It's almost like he is a little bow legged.Any thoughts???

I got an email back about the litter of pups I was looking at.I had my heart set on a male, but they have only 1 female left.Would it be a problem adding a girl to the pack? I've heard girls can be tempermental(dogs that is :D )any truth to that?? Anything else I should consider about adding a girl??

Saint Bernard General Discussions / I'm full of questions today
« on: August 09, 2007, 06:12:25 pm »
First set ?- Butt is always humping poor Tub ie: back, front, sideways, just any way he can.Sometimes he gets Tub in ackward positions where I think he is going to hurt him.Why does he do this, they are both fixed? Is it something I should stop or just let be dogs? Should I get a girl dog for him to hump instead?

2nd set ? - If I was wanting to add a 3 rd dog does it would it be better to add a male or female? Butt has never been overly fond of other dogs that is why I choose a puppy when I got Tub,so should stick with only puppies? Would it mess up the bond the boys have adding another dog?

3rd set - My ex husband has a dog(Great Dane & Coon Hound mix) which I don't see very often, but when I do and I pet him he pees ???  I feel so bad that now I just give his treats to him I brought and dont' pet him.Is it me or the dog?

I'll stop with the ?'s now :)

Saint Bernard General Discussions / My boys are the BEST!!!
« on: July 30, 2007, 10:07:56 pm »
I got up this morning and went upstairs to get the birds up and came back down the stairs on every part of my body, but my feet :o It was all I could do to crawl to my bed and call John to come take care of everyone for me.Well in the mean time the boys heard me crying :'( and came into my room.Butt climbed up on the bed to lay beside me and Tub stood at the foot of the bed licking my feet. They stayed with me until I felt good enough to get up again,it felt really good having them watching over me.The 2nd best part after them is,I didn't break anything, but I will be a huge bruise for awhile. :D

Medical Conditions & Diseases / The vet gave up on Butt today
« on: July 13, 2007, 08:09:07 am »
The Vet said he just doesn't know why he is limping, the xrays showed zilch, and the Rimadyl and Duralactin have not helped. So now he wants to send him to an orthopedic surgeon,he said the Ortho Vet may just perscribe a different med to try then what we have already tried. This Ortho Vet is 3 hrs away,I have to call Monday and see what the $ damage will be and go from there. So now I need positve thoughts for my big Butt and any advice for traveling that far with my not people friendly dog.
