Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Yukon Walking Harness
« on: February 17, 2006, 10:26:50 am »
I am posting this for anyone, even if you don't have a malamute. I purchased a Yukon Walking Harness from Black Ice for Nala not too long ago and she has outgrown it and needs a larger size. It is padded, purple and works great. It has not been used that much since she grew so fast. If anyone is interested please PM me. Here is a pic of Nala in it.
Thanks

« on: January 12, 2006, 10:37:54 pm »
Well we had our graduation tonight and my little angel (with horns) passed she was the first to go and did six instead of five tricks she just kept going. She looked so cute in her graduation hat, so now she is just like big sister, Tonka, and they are taking the next class together. ;D

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Tonka has Inflammatory Bowel Disease
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:44:04 pm »
I am not sure if we have ever spoken of this before, but the test results came back and she definitely has IBD. Has anyone had any experience with this, if so what did you feed your baby. They gave me a Prescription Formula of ZD for her, but I would like something else with more nutrients.  She can only have hydrolized protein, no treats, unless homemade with the food. Thanks for any imput.

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Sorry have not posted in a while
« on: November 18, 2005, 03:53:34 pm »
Well things have been really busy here with Nala and Tonka. To make matters worse, the neighbor boy behind us has been throwing toys in our yard and the girls have brought everything from plastic dinosaurs, footballs, baseballs, ect... to me and it has been a game to keep away from mommy. Anyway, last Saturday Tonka was playing with a scoccerball that had made its way over the fence, she normally just deflats it then throws it in the air and chases it for some reason all the leather was missing from the ball then we found 2 softballs without leather. Monday she did not want to eat that much but was drinking water very well and went potty, so I just assumed she was full from treats and Kongs. Tuesday she completely declined her food, treats, icecream, yogurt, and everything I tried to give her. I came home to vomit in the floor and a very sick puppy. She went out and did what I thought was going potty and came in and did not eat again. So I went out to look for the poo and there was nothing. Called the vet and was set to take her in on Wed. morning for a drop off appt. Apparently, after running numerous test, she had fabric stuck in her tummy that would not move. So my little angel had emergency surgery to remove this. She is recovering very well and has tried to play with Nala today. I have to go and talk to my neighbors regarding the numerous toys and am not sure exactly how to do it. I just don't want to put Tonka through this again or Nala through it for the first time. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks

I was pulling into PetsMart today and saw a very handsome OEM, I told brandon that he just looked familiar. Well come to find out it was Galahad. He is much more handsome in person and was behaving very well. Marit, you have a very handsome boy! We should get the dogs together to play.

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Nala is not sleeping!
« on: October 04, 2005, 07:20:54 pm »
Well this has been going on since we brought her home, I figured it would take a week or so to get into the swing of things, and some nights she will sleep and others we are awake, last night she only slept 2 hrs then was up for atleast 2 when I finally had to keep moving her from room to room so we could sleep, it would not be bad if she would just not bark and howl. With Tonka she would get a little upset then we would comfort her and right back to sleep she went, I have tried everything, even putting her in bed with us and lying on the floor beside her crate.  Does anyone have any suggestions? I work for a bankruptcy attorney and with this new law we are slammed and it is hard enough to keep up with things, but even harder when I am not getting any sleep.
Thanks

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Has anyone had this happen?
« on: September 22, 2005, 06:38:00 pm »
Sorry I have not been on here lately. We got an 8 week old malamute puppy last friday for Tonka. Well everything seemed to be going well until yesterday. Tonka declined her food both times and would only eat small portions out of our hands. This morning the same thing. They are playing, but it does not seem like they are playing as hard as they were and now Tonka is bringing toys to us to play with her where she was just playing with the puppy a few days ago. The vet said they believe Tonka is stressed out and her breeder agrees that maybe Tonka was just not cut out for a companion at this time and that maybe she needed to be a little older.

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Protecting Tonka
« on: July 31, 2005, 06:11:16 pm »
Today when the rain stopped brandon took tonka to the doggy park for a little play time. While there she met Mocha(not sure what breed), a husky, and 2 labs.  Well Tonka sniffed everyone and said hello, then brandon told me that Mocha came up to her barking just wanting to play and the husky defended tonka by growling at mocha. I thought that was so cute when he told me, this has never happened before. Has anyone else encountered this?

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Things to do in summer months
« on: July 11, 2005, 06:29:15 pm »
Are you guys having a hard time this summer keeping you dogs busy? We went hiking last weekend and swimming yesterday. It has been so hard since the humidity here has been horrible. Tonka like swimming in the lake until the waves came then she was done. We can't walk until late at night or early in the morning due to the heat and humidity. Any suggestions?
