General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: shedding
« on: May 02, 2008, 07:42:33 am »
Honestly, I found it a waste of money to take Adak to the Groomers when he started blowing his coat, get a slicker brush and try to brush it out. I pluck Adak's some, spray leave in conditioner on the hair first and it will come out better. They usually shed longer than a couple of days. When we are blowing coat I brush daily

I was at an event over the weekend and an all breed rescue mentioned to me that the Pyr Rescue is out of room for intakes. If you can pull him, PM me I live in Mt holly and can see what I can do as far as helping find a foster home or possibly permanent home for him.

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Re: ah, when dumb people brag...
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:50:11 am »
I can fully relate, we went in PetsMart, well my mom and I with Mally (yorkie/shih tzu mix) and Adak. We walk in Mally directly beside Adak looking up and him, him looking at her. 2 ladies with small dogs, larger than Mally, pick up their dogs and start walking fast, then one lady comes and asks if Adak is a wolf, I reminded them that he was a malamute then I get the nice, how much does he eat and poop. I told them that it depends on if he get raw food...well that started another set of questions, thank goodness some children and their mom came up they had a husky and wanted to pet him, I was able to ignore the stupid people and talk to the kids, who were a lot more educated about big dogs than the adults before.  ;) The adults kept eyeing Adak until we left the store, and I swear everyone with smaller dogs would walk away from us and Mally was right there...the nerve of some people.

Here is a pic of him sleeping on my bed which HE messed up, guess he did not like the blankets.

**guess my story was more of dump people since no one bragged.

I am near Charlotte, well in Mt. Holly. I want to come meet Cody. Can I bring Adak?

I second the Wooly sibe, he is georgous though :) And paws, wow, Adak looked like he would topple over with his huge feet! He had huge ears and paws, I will post some pics of him later today

he is georgous, tied out...what were they thinking, please let me know, I do work with the mal rescue in NC, but am sure I could get someone together. Also, if there is a Banfield within PetsMart near there, they sometimes offer a discount on spay/neuter for a fostered dog, you just have to prove that it is a foster. Please let me know if I can help in any way even if you still need help with the adoption fee.

looking at his face, ears, I would say Husky, he could be on the larger side of huskies since he was bought from a private breeder. Do you have his pedigree? I could look at that and tell you. He does have a very nice sized head though :)

Please let me know when you pull the Husky, as of right now there is not a husky rescue for Arkansas unless they are not listed. I am waiting to hear from a resuce here to see if they can have him transported for their program.

I hate to hear that, I believe you live close to me in NC. Also I did want to let everyone know that there IS a puppy theft ring and it is everywhere. The people that are stealing the dogs are not getting anything...may be a fine. There was one puppy that was jerked out of the owners hand and the owner knocked down. I will post more about that including the state when I have the permission to cross post the story. Right now due to the investigation, we have been asked not to say too much other than this is going on everywhere and when the police arrive at the peoples house they are told they are a "rescue group" so please....get your dogs microchipped, this was the only way some of these dogs have been returned.

Alaskan Malamute Pictures / Re: Rain + Malamute= A Good Time
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:04:28 am »
yes and considering the fact that he moved the 2x4s and the bricks to the back yard it was quite funny. I went out this morning to find that one of the bricks was swimming in the malapond he made. I just laughed at him again as I got the "what" look again this morning. Good thing though we are going to re-do the yard and wanted the bricks gone anyway. ;D

yes the Paw of Death as I call it. Adak does that too. We are chaneling that to "Shake" or "glad to meet you" the second verse came from the breeder. He now makes his paw a little more gentle.  :-*

I like that about telling them that he will bite the head off. I am so going to use that. My other favorite was "I can't believe you are going to have a wolf around the baby" I asked them how close a wolf lived to me that I had never seen it and I would like to go meet it. I am getting where I just love ignorant people.

Modified to add...a girl I work with has cats and just had a baby, she chimed in and told someone that as long as I don't put the baby to bed wearing the bologna mask everything will be ok.

my next comback will be, "well adak will sleep in the crib with the baby" gees people. I mean someone asked me if adak would be allowed to lick the baby...YES.... why wouldn't he be able to. I have even made arrangements for Adak to spend time with my mom and sister while I am in the hospital as Josh said he is staying with me and Adak loves my mom, so when we bring the baby in, adak will get to sniff it and kiss it. He will be almost 2 when the baby comes, I see abosolutely no problem with MY baby being around MY dog. It will make cute christmas pictures! Sorry to rant, it just gets on my last nerve.

The most stupid of them all was 1. Will Adak bite the babies head off?
