Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: Do dogs get colds?
« on: April 14, 2005, 07:17:58 pm »
Hello there,
I'm writing this while on the road.  I am returning from the Chow Chow Nationals which were held in Atlanta this week.  I was down there selling my Chow artwork.

Anyway, I noticed something there, and your post here.  I live in Chicago, and am not all that familiar with Atlanta or the weather there.  I noticed more than a few Chows seemed to be sneezing and a couple had a discharge from there nose, and some had slightly runny eyes.

I thought this was a little weird, and asked.  It seems the pollen in the air was very high, and it was affecting some of the poor little guys.  Anyway, just a thought.  Some of these adorable Chows had to be treated.  Nothing serious, but some were affected by the pollen.

I really enjoyed the Rottweiler photos...they are such magnificent dogs,a nd a breed I love to paint.  Newfoundlands, being the dog of my heart.  ;)

To answer you question on reputation.  Unfortunately, yes, I think it is all over, not just in Oklahoma.  Rottweilers are not the only breed to suffer this undeserved characterizati on.  Pitt Bulls, I think actually edge out Rottweilers recently.  In fact, some cities have gone so far to ban some breeds, I believe again, that was aimed at Pit Bulls.    An absolutely wrong approach, in my opinion.

Everybody's Rotties are just BEAUTIFUL!  ;D I have been friends with a few Rotts in my life and I think they are just wonderful dogs. Where I live in Oklahoma though they have a bit of a bad rep, people thinking that they are viscious breed (of course, this isn't true and its all in the training or lack thereof). There is a lot of illegal dog fighting that goes around here though and I think that adds to the scare. Was wondering, do Rotts get a bad rep in other parts as well?

Nice to see a Bull Mastiff on the forum.  Every Bull Mastiff I've ever met has been a  real sweatheart.  Big, impressive dogs. Very nice photo.   Welcome, you guys!

Great photo!  I think he is busy building his igloo!  ;)  I would be he also does snow angels.  My Newf Bailey makes snow angels whenever he sees any bit of snow.

Wow, those are fabulous photos of Jack!  He sure looks like he's having fun in the snow.  I love all these snow pictures, it's such a natural setting for all our big guys.

;D   hi y'all...... (gads, I love this  site! bout damn time !)
i think the term ....." And the Like"  has a definition of-

Newfs, Pyrs,St. Bernards,SIGHTHOUNDS  and the like... Its funny, sight hound covers a wide and varied variety of  4 footed, big paws. Although for the record.... the sight hounds I've had the joy of sharing living space with, can't see beyound the couch and animal planet.

Nice photo of your Mal.  Post some more!!   My Newf, Bailey plays with a big Mal. This boy is huge, and so sweet.  It's fun to see 2 big dogs playing together.  You have to make sure and keep out of the way though, sometimes, you can be body slammed. ;)

Hello to all you guys from New Zealand. ;)

Just remembering something from a couple years ago.  There was a really wonderful TV commercial done by Pedigree Dog Food.  It was my understanding they filmed it in New Zealand...the Newf in the commercial was beautiful.  Do you guys know who that was?

Bautiful photos of your Newfs.  I love their individual expressions.
BTW, do you know Robyn from Newcastle?  She's currently here in Chicago.  She'lll see my Newfie Bailey tomorrow.  So, nice to meet Newf people from so far away.
