Thank you. As a result of my work I can say i have developed a bitterness to people in general, mainly people that dont see dogs the way i do, as REAL souls and we are the only "voices" they have.

Kierstyn, In my opinion if you want puppies so bad, foster a litter from your local shelter, and have your family and friends adopt one of those. Everyone wins. We have a litter of Anatolian Shep/Lab mixes right now that no one will foster because at 5 weeks they are already huge, and they need people who have big dogs to foster them and find people who want them, because big dogs are hard to find homes for.

I work at the Humane Society and I put dogs to sleep every day. It's not a job I am proud of. EVERY DAY I do it because we have no room and the dogs keep coming. Most of the dogs got too big OR got a health problem they couldnt afford to pay for so gave them to us. We send most giant breeds to rescue, but occasionally, we get one that got too big to stay indoors and lived outside its whole life and became aggressive and territorial. Those dogs get worse at shelters and become unmanagable, and we have to euthanize it.

Please please please don't contribute to the problem that i deal with every day. BREED for a REASON not just to have pups to give to families and friends.

most toy breeds are done growing at 6 months in terms of height, but they can still fill out for another 6 months. My Papillons are still growing their coats in and merlin is two! But your little peanut looks good to me!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Spook & Allie have Coccidia ....
« on: April 02, 2007, 01:56:25 pm »
Yeah Albon is usually given for coccidia, twice the regular dose on the first day and then regular for 5 to 7 days after, at first the coccidia will "blossom" and their poop will sometimes look worse before it gets better, there maybe a little blood, but it goes away! (In school for vet teching, so a real nerd on this stuff)

Food Discussion & Information / Calcium Supplements?
« on: April 02, 2007, 01:48:27 pm »
I am feeding Atlas Royal Canin Maxi Puppy food, and giving him plain non fat yogurt twice a day too for his tummy. Do I need to give a calcium supplement as well?

German Shepherd Discussions / Toy Drive

Okay, first question to anyone and everyone (not just german shep owners)

I am an obedience trainer, and i am used to some dogs being food or toy motivated, but in order for atlas to be a good narc dog he has to LOVE and LIVE for toys. He has a natural drive and likes to run over and grab a toy, but wont bring it back just yet. He's only 8 weeks onld so we have 10 months till he goes to school. Any advice you guys could give me would be great!

Hey everyone, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Helen and I am the proud new owner of a GSD named Atlas! He is wonderful and I hope to gain some great insight from everyone here! I am used to being on tiny tracks, because I also have two papillons! I am an obedience trainer and my husband to be is a police officer and Atlas will hopefully be a narc dog in the future!
