i have had 2 dogs die in the last 15 years and we had them both cremated so i can have them with me. i personally wouldn't want to bury them in the yard and then move so for me this is a better option. i will do the same when my beloved lab brandy passes away-and i too want to be cremated when i pass on.

oh, i love him and what a perfect name you picked for him! i have a 10 year old labbie girl who was so bad as a puppy but matured into the absolute best dog ever and is so sweet. but, she still gets the devil in her even now and she makes me laugh so hard-take lots of pictures and hope you are ready for 2 years of terror from the little devil, but it will be worth it and years later you will smile and laugh about just how bad cooper was as a puppy. just my opinion but labs are the best companion ;D

i don't know if you have 2 legged kids or not but plainfield is growing very rapidly and always needs more schools so the taxes there will keep going up constantly. it has lots of nice homes always for sale-new subdivisions to choose from also. you probably can find a nice modest home in any of those places-just depends on how far out you want to be. plainfield is just west of me and romeoville just north. bolingbrook is one town further north of romeoville. now montgomery is way west but lots of new housing going up there-haven't been out there myself but i think it is mostly new homes and a small older town. the prices of homes is terrible here but much worse the closer to chicago you get. taxes are sky high here but i think that may be a problem most states are dealing with. be ready for sticker shock and also know we are in the middle of a terrible drought here-everything is so brown and we need rain so bad. i wish you lots of luck and if you need any info just ask!

very nice house-good luck with your move to our part of the woods. i live in a southwest suburb of the windy city-do you know where you are going to move to here? i looked at your property taxes and almost fainted they are so low. we pay 3 times that much for taxes on a modest 3 bedroom brick ranch with a basement and garage and a small lot, guess its the price of living in illinois. maybe i should move to ohio.......... .......

if i didn't have my lab my list would be-newf,oem,clumber spaniel, pug-sorry i know they are small, leonberger, golden retriever-i could keep the list going forever!

i am so glad i saw this thread and will tell my niece to add safflower oil to her greys food. he has the dry flaky skin and some bad gas. she does give him yogurt but i'm not sure how often so i will pass this on to her. thanks so much

i don't have a grey but my niece does and they come to visit and he is fine with my lab-he has also met an english pointer that i was dog sitting and was fine with her also.

i happen to love my 10 year old labrador and think she is the most wonderful dog i have ever owned. my nephew also has 2 labs and they are adorable also. now, the first two years were trying with her-she was a chewing machine but since then she has been the sweetest most loving dog ever. i happen to like her bad lab antics like always bringing whatever she decides to drag into the kitchen out at the worst times but some people wouldn't. i like her happy personality-she adores me and i adore her in return. i take offense when someone makes a blanket statement about any breed of dog but when you attack my breed-i get very upset. i like that with most labs you can take them anywhere and they get along with people and other dogs. i love that she is so sweet even with the birds and other creatures in my yard-i for one would get another lab in a heartbeat and can see why they are so popular with families. i also can see why so many end up in rescue-those first two years are difficult but with training and lots of patience you end up having the most wonderful loving animal you could ever imagine.

i also have a highly allergic labrador who is now 10 years old and suffers everyday. i had our vet do allergy testing and she is allergic to lots of things-the usual mold, grass, oak and cedar-brewers yeast which is in lots of dog treats and food. the list goes on forever but i try my best to keep her comfortable. she has bad reactions to the cortisone shots-allergy pills work for a little while but then stop working. she sleeps on my bed so i got her the covers that go on the mattress and "her" pillow-she also has a highlu sensitive stomach so that means special dry food for her which i use in limited quantities and supplement with food i prepare for her. its an ongoing terrible battle for everyone but once you find out what allergies you are dealing with it is somewhat easier for everyone involved.

Bernese Mountain Dog Discussions / Re: berners
« on: July 04, 2005, 06:38:39 pm »
just wanted to say i did not get a berner puppy. by the time i had gotten over our12 year old sharpei dying from cancer the end of march i was too late for a puppy from that litter. that being said i want to put my two cents in-my 10 year old lab, bless her loving little heart is not a healthy dog either. she is very sensitive to everything-medications-her shots-has all kinds of allergies-and suffers from fatty tumors like lots of labs. she also has a very large tumor in her chest which we don't know if it is cancer or another fatty tumor as i refuse to put her thru surgery at her age. but, i love her to death and think she is the sweetest dog ever put on this earth and is so funny and loving and just plain old labrador bad but in a good way. she gets along with everyone-two or four legged and is my best friend even with all of her issues. and every lab i know has some kind of health issue so even the most popular dog breed is not healthy in my opinion. but, i am glad to hear all of your experiences with berners and maybe one  day i will find a berner to love for whatever time she is here. thanks!

my sister's english pointer gets crazy with storms and fireworks also-she has found that peppermint oil on the pads of her front feet helps calm her somewhat. i have heard that lavendar also is good for your problem-we also read in the greyhound for dummies book that a dryer sheet rubbed on their body helps so now her pointer smells like bounce! there is also something i think called comfort zone that petsmart sells-you plug it in like one of those scented air fresheners but it takes time to work-sorry i got in this too late to help you out-but if you read this and have a dryer sheet rub it on and it should help!
