i am bad mommy then cuz i use peyton's kennel as a time out and ni-ni time. when she is being naughty, we pull her in there and just don't say anything. all we do is look at her eyes and she looks away. she does not bark or whine. she lays down as if she understands that she is a bad girl.

she gets let out when tempers calm - mine and sometimes her rowdyness - but she is always let out in a timely manner.

and when it is ni-ni time, we say it is ni-ni time. we never have to pull her in we just tap on the kennel door and say "ni ni peyt" and she goes in and lays down and she gets a treat. i talk to her and tell her sweet dreams and close the door. sometimes she whines if we don't go to bed (close our bedroom door) right away but she knows that soon enough we will go ni-ni and she lays down with a BIG sigh and goes to sleep.

she has never been affraid of her kennel. we have never had to force her into it. so i think...i think...it depends on how the time out or the "punishment" is being handled. she seems to be very happy in her little ni-ni bed...so we are happy too i guess.

some little dogs are horrilbe! this was months ago (about 4) so peyton was about 6 months old and already weighed 50 lbs or so. give or take a few. we went on a walk around the block (not too uncommon) and we got to almost the end of the block (one more corner to go and we would be home). this little dog (looked like a long haired jack russel) comes tearring out his garage and yipping at peyton (who is across the street!!!) and peyton is terriably affraid of it cuz she's never met anyone or anydog who wasn't nice before. she wouldn't move forward. i had to PICK HER UP!!! yeah, all 50 lbs of her! so the mom and dad of this little dog comes outside and tells him that he did a good job at scaring the big mean dog! you could tell that peyton was still a puppy! and then they had the bal!$ to tell the dog to "go get 'em". so he comes tearring after me, who is minding my own business CARRYING MY BIG 50 # PUPPY...and running between my legs. i yelled out, get your dog the Fu@* away from me or I WILL kick him out of my way". the people just laughed at me. I saw a person running that I knew and that could handle peyton and called to him, he took peyton and made sure she would be okay...and i walked back to the house and told them that "i didn't appreciate the way they handled the situation and that if it happened again that i would be calling the humane society on them because when i almost kicked the living $hit out of their pesky yippy dog, i noticed that they didn't have any type of tag."

I normally am not confrontationa l at all, but they messed with my baby, and MY SAFETY! what if i had fallen because of the dog? i could have hurt me and my dog. she would have fallen hard...

anyway, the next time i went for a walk the same way, a few houses down from that house, peyton started crying and doing circles around me wanting me to turn around. i let her walk between my legs one step at a time until we made it past. i had to keep telling her that it was okay and there was nothing to be affraid of while she was still crying. she to this day is still affraid of that da^^n house.

My female dobie went into her first heat at about a year. I think the general rule of thumb is the largest breeds go into heat latest which makes sense as they grow longer and reach sexual maturity later. Maybe your girl is following the mastiff half of her nature for her schedule.
Stela

thanks for that! :) it does make sense. little dogs quicker growth and smaller parts, big dogs bigger growth and bigger parts!

hehe i find that funny. she follows most of her mastiff half at everything she does. the only thing that resembles her rottie half is she "herds" children in the neighborhood. a little girl decided to go see peyton while she was hanging out outside. peyton must have known she wasn't supposed to so she decided to do circles around her and bark with a sharp (we call it her little girl back) very high pitched bark to get someones attention. i came running outside to see peyton and this little girl playing "ring a round the rosey and jump rope" at the same time. (that's what the little girl said she was doing) we have peyton on a tie out until we can build a fence. but when peyt saw me, she sat on the little girl as if "look what i got mom!" which looking up later i read was a mastiff trait - to sit on something they like or are in "charge" of.

peyton is 10 months old as of Christmas Eve. She still has not started to show signs (spotting) that she is of the age to go into heat. my vet has told me a broad timeline for it. and well, she went past it. can it be that she is "barren". is there such a thing? as weird as it sounds...i look at everything on her!!! her nipples are growing. as in the little nubs. hehe. i can be so graphic sometimes. not growing like she is gonna start milking soon. she is a rottie and a french mastiff. she is about 75 lbs. she has been about 75 for the last month or so.

it has been a LONG LONG time since i have been on here. here are a few more pics of peyton for ya'll to look at! we have had a good year with her and she is growing up. she is becoming a "dog". she still has puppy moments...but she is content chewing on a bone and laying next to us. i miss her as a puppy though. but definately don't miss her puppy teeth! thanks again for all your help with all my "issues" with her.

it has been a long while since i had posted on here. lets see... today is her 7 months birthday. she got her heart worm meds as a month b-day and a kong full of peanut butter.  ;D i have been having problems truely bonding with her until yesterday. wow. i am still happy go lucky about it.

she was kinda upset about something. like mope-ing around the house not really wanting to play or anything and she came and sat on my feet and looked up at me. i asked her what the problem was and i bent down and she kissed my chin while she was still sitting. she usually would have jumped up and began to play but she was still calm. after she kissed me i hugged her and she started licking my arms with more force and i told her "i love you" and then she was all happy and wanted to play. then about 45 mins later i went to go potty in the human bathroom (hehe) and of course she had to follow me. (she likes watching the toilet flush!-weirdo!) and so i was done peeing and she sat up and put her paws on my knees and just looked at me. very lovingly and her head went sideways kinda like she was trying to figure me out. i said what peyt? and she kissed my chin again. i just looked her eyes and she kept looking in mine. i told her i love you again and i promise to god himself she smiled. she stood up and she put her chin on my shoulder as if she were trying to hug me. i put my arms around her and she started kissing my whole face, my hair, my ears, my neck and she looked at me again and kissed my chin and ran out of the bathroom.   :D i flushed the toilet and she came running. she sat there looking at the toilet and looked at me and barked! i forgot to let her watch. (i know more graphic than you probably needed to read) but so i had to flush again so she could watch. of course then she was content and then we could go play. but...

anyway...who knew that a bathroom could be the place for us to FINALLY have that moment where i knew i would do anything for her and viseversa. i can now say i truly deeply, compationately love her. she is my little girl.

later that night she did the whole thing she did before the bathroom bonding with darrin. she sat on his feet and made him hug her and tell her that he loved her and then wanted to play. :)

HAHAHA! Darrin (boyfriend) and I was just talking about this last night! Too funny! Peyton changes hers every so often. But it's usually in one area for about 3 weeks. Even when we pick it all up, she changes it. But, we do have her trained that if she has to go and we are visiting our neighbors, she is to go in OUR yard ONLY and she will drag us and pull across the street to go into our yard and as soon as she is done, we are crossing the street to visit some more!
