Kudos to Animal Planet for showing the program.  Every little bit of good publicity for Pits can help...

I can't tell you how impressed I am!  What a good boy!  Both of my dogs take off after squirrels or rabbits and there's no listening to anyone when that happens!

Can't wait to see pictures!

I hope your Golden is feeling better...I'm sorry he's having problems.  Sending lots of hugs, slobbers and healing vibes from me and Sierra.

When are you getting married? I see a ring barer in the making. :)

Hee...hee...  you read my mind!  What a cute little ring bearer he would be!

I've decided I want Sierra to be in my wedding, much to everyone's disgust.  (Except Jeff - he just sighs like he can't believe he asked this crazy woman to marry him!).  She is going to pull a cart carrying the ring bearer and flower girl.

Uh oh.......I'm scared.

Don't worry, she will be escorted on a leash down the aisle.  I don't trust her that much!!

I can't wait to see pics of your girl!  And that so-called "breeder" shouldn't be allowed to have dogs!

We built Sierra a raised feeder.  It's a box with cut outs for the food and water bowls to sit in.  Her water bowl is actually a five gallon bucket that she can't dig in.  She doesn't drink from it much though because she prefers fresh cold water from the tub faucet.   ;D

No, I don't think you should take Gilligan, I think you should take Mary-Ann, then I can have Gilligan, hee hee. Something about the feisty little runt I find irrisistable even though I've never met him. Maybe you should take both. Good luck with which ever one or both you end up with.

Emily, you nailed Gilligan's personality! He truely is fiesty. I saw him about 3 days ago and when ever my breeders cell phone would ring the little guy would stand up and just bark. It was adorable. He also has no idea that he's small, he just goes at his littermates like a little ball of fury, growling and all (play growling). He'll probably be a handful, haha!

I really want both, by my fiancee is the voice of reason and tells me no. We'll be in an apartment (his family owns apartments) for about a year, and he says one is enough! Haha. Then we move to a house on 100 acres (his family owns a horse stable and he rides and trains), so then I'll start adding to my pack!

Horses AND Newfies????  Oh Lord, if I were there I'd think I died and went to Heaven!!

I vote for taking both Mary Ann and Gilly!

My fiance is the voice of reason also.  Don't you just hate it sometimes?? :D  I act on impulse and if I had my way, I'd have about 30 Newfies right now.  I'd be broke, and covered in hair and slobber...but I would be oh so happy!!!

I love the people who feel the need to inform me of how big Sierra is going to be too.

Typical scenario:
Moron:  What kind of dog is that?
Me:  A Newfoundland
Moron: Oh!  You know how big they get right?  Are you sure you want a dog that big?
Me: Yes, I'm well aware of how big they get.  The size is one of the main reasons I chose her and yes, I'm quite sure I want a dog that big.  But thanks for your concern *insert sarcasm*  ::)

And when she was a puppy - "She's awful small for a Newf".  My response started to be to explain politely and then I got sick of being polite and I started responding "Well of course she's small, she's still a puppy.  She still has growing to do.  You weren't born full grown either."
When I still get the comment, I usually give the web address to the AKC or Newfoundland Club of America and tell them to read the breed standard because she is actually slightly taller than the average height for a female.

Then her drooling.
Me: Be careful, she drools, here is a towel.  (I always carry one)
Moron:  Oh It's ok, I don't mind.
Then a second later...
Moron:  Eww, she slobbered on me!  How disgusting!  How do you live with that?
Hey, I offered the towel...

And my personal favorite:

Because she doesn't have her shaggy coat right now, everyone thinks she's an oversized Lab.
Moron:  What a beautiful Lab!
Me: Actually she's not a Lab, she's a Newfoundland.
Moron: I know a Lab when I see one, I've been breeding champion Labs for years.
Me:  I don't know what kind of Labs you are breeding, but if they look like my dog, then you are not breeding any Lab recognized by the AKC.  I know what kind of dog I have, and she's a Newfoundland.
Moron walks away shaking his head because apparently, I am stupid and crazy to be calling my "Lab" a Newf.

And this drives me nuts:  I was was walking Sierra through a dog park and some woman (with a little fluff ball type of dog) ran up to her child and yanked him away from me and Sierra.  We were a good 10 feet away.

Me: Excuse me maam, Is there a reason why you pulled your child away from my dog?
Crazy woman: Well look at the size of your dog!
Me:  but did she make any type of aggressive or threatening movement?  I'd like to know so I can stop that kind of behaviour.
Crazy Woman: No she didn't but she's huge and I'm just protecting my son.
Me:  Just because she's big doesn't mean she bites.
Crazy woman:  Well, small dogs don't bite!
Me: Is that why your dog is snarling at me and mine is wagging her tail?

I never used to be rude to people and defending my dog has really changed me!   ;D

Debbie, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this.  Even though we are virtual strangers, please know that we are all here for you and thinking about you.  And, apparently, so is Luke.

No one can ever convince me that animals do not sense emotion.  It may not be the same emotion that we feel, but they know when something is different.  They know when our moods change.  I've experienced it myself...I think we all have at one time or another.  If you can take comfort from Luke, then by all means go ahead and do it.  You'll feel better and it may help strengthen your bond with him.

PLease take care and we are here if you need to let off some steam or try and work through some confused feelings.

The only bites I received were from my uncle's springer spaniel, it came completely out of nowhere and he immediatley knew he had done something wrong and started to lick me with his head down and tail between his legs.

The other times were fom two of my Siberians and they were both my fault completely.  I was bitten by one husky when I was 5 years old.  I had accidentally let him loose and he started fighting with our Saint.  I was a dumb kid and could only focus on the thought that I was going to get in trouble for letting the dog loose so I reached in and tried to break up the fight.  Then I got bit and I ran and hid, bleeding terribly, still thinking I was going to get in trouble.  (Yes, I was very afraid of my mother :D)  30 years later I still have the scars on my wrist.  Actually we were never sure if it was the Husky or the Saint the got me.

The other incident was my fault too.  We had a husky who was sweet and loving but would not tolerate being stared at.  Well, I was pushing him one time to see how far I could go and I found out his limits.  He snapped at my face and left a scar right under my bottom lip and another up above my hairline.  He also realized right away that he shouldn't have done it and I never told my mother how it happened.  I didn't want the dog getting in trouble and I was wrong to push him knowing he took staring as a challenge.

I'm not suprised that the top three are small dogs.  I've always heard reports that small dogs are more prone to bite.

I haven't had any experience with a Jack Russell or Dachsund, but Jeff's uncle has a Chihuahua that he brings everywhere with him, so I see her a lot.  Let me tell you, I won't go NEAR that dog.  She scares the H-E-double hockey sticks out of me.  She is always snarling and growling and she makes runs at you like she's going to attack but then backs off right before she gets to you.  I hate her.  My friend's Chi is the same way way except her dog doesn't make charges at you.  I don't hate Chi's in general, just these two dogs specifically.  And neither one of these dogs EVER SHUTS UP!

I'm sorry you aren't getting little Gilly.  That must have been hard news to hear and probably hard for the breeders to tell you.  I'm sure they knew how much you were looking forward to bringing the little fella home.

That little girl is so stinking cute though...  I'm sure she is going to steal your heart just as quickly as Gilligan did.  She has that mischevious look to her...I think she is going to keep you on your toes!!

I vote for Dory or Luna!

Wonder if they know that being bratty means mom breaks out the clicker and the treats???   :-\

I wouldn't doubt it.  Both Cody and Sierra know when they are outside, that if I call them and they stand in the middle of the yard long enough with blank looks on their faces, eventually I will stop saying "come" and I'll say "Who wants a cookie?".  Needless to say, I can call come til I'm blue in the face but I only have to offer a cookie once and they come a-runnin!

It's a good thing I pay for a membership to a training club - money well spent!  I'd say those puppers have me very well trained by this point!  ;D ;D

Love those pics!  I was laughing at the look on poor Gunther's face with all of those birdies on him!  He looked like he just wished the ground would swallow him up!
